Gallic acid-PAMAM and gallic acid-phospholipid conjugates, physicochemical characterization and in vivo evaluation.

Gallic acid (GA) is a naturally occurring compound with valuable antioxidant activity. Its oral bioavailability is limited by its high metabolism and rapid clearance. In this paper, GA was conjugated with two different materials, phosphatidylcholine (PC) and polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer. The prepared conjugates were characterized by FTIR, DSC, and SEM. Also, they were tested for drug content and in vitro drug release. It was found that GA conjugation with both materials have significantly prolonged its release up to 12 h. In vivo hepatoprotective activity of free and conjugated GA was stud

The gallic acid-phospholipid complex improved the antioxidant potential of gallic acid by enhancing its bioavailability.

Gallic acid (GA) is well known for its antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity, though its effectiveness is restricted due to rapid metabolism and elimination. To overcome these problems, gallic acid-phospholipid complex was prepared and the effect of phospholipid complexation was investigated on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced oxidative damage in rat liver. The complex significantly reduced the hepatic marker enzymes in rat serum and restored the antioxidant enzyme levels with respect to CCl4-induced group (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01). Also, the complex improved the pharmacokinetics of GA by

Hexavalent chromium reduction by gallic acid.

Cr(VI) is widely used in industry and often large quantities have been accidently or due to lack of precautions released at the environment. The presence of high concentrations of Cr(VI) in waste streams causes concern due to its toxicity and solubility. However the Cr(III) is a useful micronutrient in human diet. The reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) is a promising technology for a clean environment. Polyphenols are commonly found in plants and they are considered as strong natural antioxidants. In this study the reduction of hexavalent to trivalent chromium using gallic acid (GA), a polyhydroxy

Extraction of Gallic Acid and Ferulic Acid for Application in Hair Supplements.

Food supplements based on antioxidants and vitamins are often prescribed to correct inefficiencies in the human diet and delay diseases such as premature aging and alopecia (temporary or permanent hair loss), given the free radical scavenging activity of these biomolecules. By reducing the concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which promote abnormal hair follicle cycling and morphology, follicle inflammation and oxidative stress are reduced, minimising the effects of these health issues. Gallic acid (GA), which is significantly present in gallnuts and in pomegranate root bark, and fe

Antifungal Activity of Gallic Acid In Vitro and In Vivo.

Gallic acid (GA) is a polyphenol natural compound found in many medicinal plant species, including pomegranate rind (Punica granatum L.), and has been shown to have antiinflammatory and antibacterial properties. Pomegranate rind is used to treat bacterial and fungal pathogens in Uyghur and other systems of traditional medicine, but, surprisingly, the effects of GA on antifungal activity have not yet been reported. In this study, we aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of GA on fungal strains both in vitro and in vivo. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by the NCCL

Multifunctional Konjac Glucomannan Film Tuning by Gallic Acid Functionalization.

Konjac glucomannan (KG) is a biocompatible polysaccharide with limited functional performance in its native form, motivating modification strategies to enhance its properties. This study investigates the effect of gallic acid (GA) functionalization on the structural, physicochemical, mechanical, antioxidant, and biological properties of KG-based films. FTIR analysis confirmed that GA interacts with KG primarily through non-covalent hydrogen bonding without disrupting the polymer backbone. Modification with GA enabled concentration-dependent tuning of surface energy, roughness, hydration behavi

Iron gallic acid biomimetic nanoparticles for targeted magnetic resonance imaging.

Developing T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents with enhanced biocompatibility and targeting capabilities is crucial owing to concerns over current agents' potential toxicity and suboptimal performance. Drawing inspiration from "biomimetic camouflage," we isolated cell membranes (CMs) from human glioblastoma (T98G) cell lines via the extrusion method to facilitate homotypic glioma targeting. At an 8:1 mass ratio of ferric chloride hexahydrate to gallic acid (GA), the resulting iron (Fe)-GA nanoparticles (NPs) proved effective as a T1-weighted MRI contrast agent. T98G CM

The inhibiting effects of organic acids on arsenic immobilization by ferrihydrite: Gallic acid as an example.

Organic acids usually compete the immobilization of As by iron (hydro)oxides, but their oxidizing effects are ignored. Therefore, the gallic acid (GA) with strong redox activity was chosen to investigate the influence of arsenite [As(III)] oxidation on As immobilization by ferrihydrite. Our results found that the As amount adsorbed on ferrihydrite decreased with the pH rising from 5 to 9 in the presence of GA, and the adsorption amount (28.8 g kg-1) at pH 9 was 45.1% lower than that in the absence of GA. Meanwhile, the As adsorption amounts in treatments of GA addition before As (Fh-GA-As(III)
