Human sensitization to Ganoderma antigen.

Continuous air sampling with a Hirst volumetric spore trap over 3 yr has identified basidiospores of Ganoderma applanatum, a bracket fungus, as the most numerous fungal spores in two southern Ontario locations. The particle size is small and the calculated total spore mass approximates that of the spores of Cladosporium and Alternaria. Extracts of Ganoderma applanatum bracket fungus and spores in w/v, 1:10 concentration were prepared after collection of samples of the fungus from local woods. Skin prick tests with the extracts were performed in 294 consecutive children and adults attending two

Ultrasound-assisted extraction optimization of Ganoderma sinense polysaccharides and comparative structural analysis across six Ganoderma species.

This study optimized ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of Ganoderma sinense polysaccharides using response surface methodology with a Box-Behnken design. Optimal conditions (47-52 °C, solid-liquid ratio 1:35-1:40, ultrasound time 45-55 min) improved extraction yield at relatively low temperatures compared to conventional hot water extraction (80-100 °C). Comparative analysis of six Ganoderma species (G. sinense, G. lucidum, G. applanatum, G. resinaceum, G. cochlear, and G. hainanesis) revealed substantial interspecies variations in yields (3.86 %-12.15 %), total sugar contents (11.24 %-42.8

Exploring the Therapeutic Potential of Ganoderma lucidum in Cancer.

Triterpenoids, such as ganoderic acid, and polysaccharides, including β-D-glucans, α-D-glucans, and α-D-mannans, are the main secondary metabolites of the medicinal fungus Ganoderma lucidum. There is evidence of the effects of ganoderic acid in hematological malignancies, whose mechanisms involve the stimulation of immune response, the macrophage-like differentiation, the activation of MAP-K pathway, an IL3-dependent cytotoxic action, the induction of cytoprotective autophagy, and the induction of apoptosis. In fact, this compound has been tested in twenty-six different human cancer cell types

Ganoderma tsuage promotes pain sensitivity in aging mice.

Advances in modern medicine have extended human life expectancy, leading to a world with a gradually aging society. Aging refers to a natural decline in the physiological functions of a species over time, such as reduced pain sensitivity and reaction speed. Healthy-level physiological pain serves as a warning signal to the body, helping to avoid noxious stimuli. Physiological pain sensitivity gradually decreases in the elderly, increasing the risk of injury. Therefore, geriatric health care receives growing attention, potentially improving the health status and life quality of the elderly, fur

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of neuroprotective antioxidants from Ganoderma lucidum.

Ganoderma lucidum (GL), a traditional Chinese medicinal fungus, is rich in triterpenoids and phenols with antioxidant properties. Nevertheless, current extraction techniques limit the efficient utilization of bioactive components from GL. This study aims to optimize the extraction process of triterpenoids and phenols, enhance their antioxidant activities, and assess their neuroprotective activities against oxidative damage. Here, we used response surface methodology (RSM) coupled with artificial neural network-genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) modeling to optimize ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE)

Functional properties of Ganoderma lucidum supplementation in canine nutrition.

Ganoderma lucidum (GL) is a mushroom that has been widely used in Asia for its immunostimulatory and anti-inflammatory capacity, which has been hypothesized to be attributed mainly to the recognition of its cell-surface patterns by cells of the immune system present in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in a cascade of modulatory events. However, the nutraceutical properties of GL have not been tested in dogs. Forty adult beagles were used in a completely randomized design. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of dietary inclusion of GL on peripheral blood mononucl

Immunostimulatory activities of β-d-glucan from Ganoderma Lucidum.

A water-insoluble β-(1 → 3)-D-glucan (GLPs) with few branches at C-6 and C-2 positions was extracted from the fruit body of Ganoderma Lucidum by 1M NaOH at 40 °C. By the striking inhibition of NO and TNF-α production, GLPs showed significant anti-inflammation activity against LPS induced Raw 264.7 cells. Results of RT-PCR revealed the down regulation of iNOS and TNF-α mRNA gene expression. GLPs severely inhibited the phosphorylation of IκBα and JNK1/2, while the ERK1/2 and p38 were not apparently affected by GLPs. The neutralizing antibodies against dectin-1 and TLR-4, respectively, did not af
