We investigated whether gender identity influences preadolescents' tendency to single out gender-atypical peers for abuse. Data were gathered from 195 boys and girls (M age = 10.1 years) in the fall and spring of a school year. Children self-reported multiple dimensions of gender identity (intergroup bias, felt pressure for gender differentiation, felt gender typicality, gender contentedness); peers assessed each other's social behavior (gender nonconformity, aggression toward each classmate). Using multilevel modeling, we examined how children's attacks on gender-nonconforming peers (relative

Transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals need access to diverse health services in welcoming, affirming, clinically appropriate, and culturally sensitive environments. Nursing students often feel underprepared due to limited knowledge and attitudes about transgender and gender nonconforming issues, and despite growing interest, research on their care remains limited. This study explores the perspectives of nursing students nearing graduation on providing care to transgender and gender-nonconforming persons. We conducted a qualitative descriptive exploratory study at the Fondazione IRCC

OBJECTIVE: Increased numbers of transgender and gender-nonconforming people are presenting to physicians in the United States and abroad due to increased public recognition and acceptance and increased access to healthcare facilities. However, there are still gaps in medical knowledge among endocrinologists and other health care professionals. The purpose of these cases is to present several common clinical vignettes of transgender people presenting in an office setting that illustrate some of the key recommendations of the Endocrine Society's revised Endocrine Treatment of Gender Dysphoria/Ge

Visibility for transgender and gender nonconforming people and the elderly is growing; however, thus far the overlap of the two groups has rarely been considered. Trans persons therefore remain largely invisible in the context of older people's care and medicine. The discrimination faced by this group is at least twofold: they are the targets of aggression incited by transphobia, and also by ageism. Although older trans and gender nonconforming people exist as a greatly marginalized group within another already marginalized group, even the field of theological ethics has neglected to grant the

In this article, the authors describe an advocacy model-psychologists advocating for trans health (PATH)-that prepares psychologists and trainees who are interested in developing the awareness, knowledge, skills, and actions needed to counter antitrans legislation and promote affirming legislation and public policy that supports trans and nonbinary (TNB) health and well-being. Written broadly for all psychologists and trainees who want to engage in this work (with specific considerations for the well-being of TNB members of the field), the PATH model uses the four domains (awareness, knowledge

Developing best practices for accurately ascertaining gender identities has become increasingly important, especially as more adolescents identify with transgender and nonbinary identities. The research community faces the challenge of creating inclusive and representative measures that effectively capture these identities. In collaboration with the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV Interventions (ATN), we present our youth-informed multi-step process for gender, gender identity and sex-assigned-at-birth ascertainment. We also highlight the critical need to involve adolescents directl

Cancer care, with its complex and variable protocols, frequent appointments, and high-stress, may present additional challenges for neurodivergent patients, and suitable care accommodations are necessary. Yet, a dearth of literature and an associated understanding on neuro-inclusive cancer care exists. The current case study aims to: (1) explore and identify barriers and challenges to neurodivergent cancer care; and (2) generate neuro-inclusive oncology-specific recommendations to guide healthcare providers in offering neuro-affirming care. To do this, we present the first author's lived exper

BACKGROUND: With more transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people affirming their genders, often with gender‑affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) - which involves using hormones to help align physical characteristics with an individual's gender identity - there is a growing need for general practitioners who are confident and skilled in providing affirming, ongoing care. This includes support related to not only gender affirmation itself, but also broader health needs such as cardiovascular disease risk management, mental health, bone health, sexual health and wellbeing, and lifestyle factors incl

Transgender and gender-diverse people frequently experience acute psychiatric care as traumatizing because of structural stigma, including misgendering, discontinuation of gender-affirming medications, and restrictions on gender expression. The authors leveraged lived-experience evidence and population-based data to outline changes that reduce traumatization and improve continuity after discharge: standardized documentation and display of chosen names and pronouns, consistent access to gender-affirming medications and gender expression items, trauma-informed de-escalation, involvement of chose

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine irregularity in people who are assigned-female-at-birth and are of reproductive age. PCOS causes infertility, irregular periods and hirsutism. Cis women with PCOS describe these symptoms as 'masculinising,' which makes them feel inauthentic as women. However, trans and nonbinary people with PCOS may desire a more masculine appearance, but little attention has been given to how these people may experience PCOS. Using Apify, we collected 450 posts from three popular PCOS Reddit communities. We examined titles, posts, and comments for

Assessing and treating menopause in transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals is of increasing interest to clinicians providing gender-affirming care. There currently exists a small body of literature that describes cardiovascular, bone health, neurocognitive, and other outcomes in the TGD population who experience loss of endogenous sex hormone production, whether through gender-affirming hormone therapy, surgical gonadectomy, or natural aging. However, the literature is currently insufficient to provide clear evidence-based guidance for the medical management of menopause in TGD indiv

PURPOSE: India's 2014 Supreme Court ruling in National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India affirmed transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) persons as equal citizens with a right to self-identified gender. This scoping review (2014-2024) sought to map TGD mental health research in India, characterize study details and themes, and identify gaps to guide future research and interventions.
METHODS: Following Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, we conducted a systematic search of peer-reviewed literature (P

BACKGROUND: The first international clinical standards of care for the gender-diverse population were formulated in the late 1970s. In the last 15 years, multiple subspecialty societies within the United States have developed clinical care guidelines for those with gender dysphoria, including gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and surgical treatments. To date, there are no pathology- and laboratory medicine-specific recommendations in the United States for the gender-diverse population.

This article reflects on the significance of medical perception in encounters with gender, trans identity and nonbinarity. Starting from the role of urology in the medical care of gender-diverse people, it shows that gender-affirming and gender-modifying treatments cannot be understood solely as somatic-medical or organ-focused interventions. They are part of complex developmental processes in which bodily well-being, gendered self-experience, social participation, sexuality, quality of life and other dimensions are closely intertwined. Gender is understood as a multidimensional self-experienc

Scholars continue to use deficit-focused models to understand how experiences of oppression negatively impact the lives of trans and nonbinary (TNB) communities. While helpful in understanding TNB well-being, existing models miss opportunities for centering healing and liberation of TNB communities. Further, models often focus on individualistic and ameliorative approaches that fail to attend to intersectionality and transformative social change. In a time of increased violence toward TNB communities, we propose the transformational model of TNB liberation to challenge deficit-focused framewor

INTRODUCTION: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people’s health is a public health issue impacting a significant portion of the population. Health-related decisions are made in an artificially uncertain and contentious climate in which knowledge plays a central role. Rapid developments in the field, along with the increasing politicization of language in research, contribute to the proliferation of terms that shape and complicate bibliographic searches.
METHOD: This study of the journal Santé publique focuses on publications available online since 2001 that include conte

This systematic review considered the quantitative research on transgender and nonbinary (TNB) psychological well-being (PWB) in relation to the shifting sociopolitical landscape across the past 50 years. Using an empirically informed framework to conceptualize PWB outside of cisnormativity, we reviewed 93 studies of PWB and organized them according to three socioecological levels of gender identity affirmation: (a) societal affirmation, (b) interpersonal affirmation, and (c) individual strengths. Using a critical intersectional framework, we characterized how well this literature represents t

The prevalence of American youth identifying as transgender has doubled in the past five years, emphasizing the crucial role of gender affirmation surgery (GAS) in treating gender dysphoria. However, the current health care infrastructure faces challenges in meeting the escalating demand for GAS interventions. Transgender and gender-diverse patients encounter barriers such as travel and extended waitlists for specialized surgeons. This viewpoint highlights the insufficient exposure to GAS in medical education, spanning from medical students to attending surgeons, and examines the uneven distri

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth are at increased risk of co-using alcohol and cannabis and experiencing related harms due to gender minority stress (GMS). This study aimed to characterize alcohol and cannabis co-use and related harms among TGD youth. Forty Canadian TGD youth who drink completed a 21-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) period where they reported their substance use, corresponding harms, and GMS and resilience experienced each day. Participants reported 180 alcohol-only days, 104 cannabis-only days, and 41 co-use days during the EMA period. The number of alcohol
