Mesenchymal neoplasms of the bladder and male genital tract are uncommonly encountered in routine diagnostic practice and present diagnostic challenges. Here, I systematically survey mesenchymal tumors at each body site, including the spermatic cord, scrotum, and perineum. I provide a detailed overview of tumor types that specifically or most commonly occur in the bladder and male genital tract, including pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic neoplasm of the bladder, proliferative funiculitis, paratesticular sclerosing rhabdomyoma, penile myointimoma, and so-called prostatic stromal tumors.

AIMS: The incidence, presentation and macroscopic and histological features of secondary neoplasms of the male genital tract are described with reference to their differential diagnosis.

Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs are relatively rare, comprising less than 5% of all primary extranodal lymphomas; only a handful of small case series and isolated case reports have been published describing their predominant sites and subtypes. We identified 40 patients with lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs. A total of 95,797 tissue specimens were submitted to our laboratory for histopathological examination during the 21-year period from January 1964 to December 1984. Out of 21,281 cases diagnosed as tumors, 9,254 were found in the male population, comprising 6,846 malignant neoplasms and 2,408 benign neoplasms. There were 1,175 tumors of the male genital tract of which 1,118 were malignant and 57 were benign. The incidence of male genital tract cancer represented 16.33% of male malignancies. Leiomyomas are rare soft tissue neoplasms that can affect virtually any part of the male genital tract. Although they have been described in association with other lesions, to best our knowledge coexistence with leydig cell hyperplasia has not been reported before. The analysis of the trends of the principal causes of deaths in Czechoslovakia indicated leading second position of malignant neoplasms in the whole mortality over the period 1949 through 1978. The rapidly growing all sites cancer mortality trends in males together with their unimportant changes in females resulted in the steadily increasing overmortality of males. Among digestive organs important decrease of stomach and in lesser extent also of oesophageal cancers with simultaneously increasing mortality trends of malignant neoplasms of colon, pancreas and rectum in both sexes were observed.

Adenomatoid tumours are neoplasms of male and female genital tract with the epididymis being the most common site. They also occur in uterus, fallopian tube, and ovary. These benign tumours are asymptomatic or cause mild symptoms and a palpable mass. The frequency of spontaneously occuring neoplasms in the urogenital system and endocrine organs was examined in two Syrian hamster colonies [Eppley colony (EC); Hannover colony (HC)].
