Bioactive gibberellins (GAs or diterpenes) are essential hormones in land plants that control many aspects of plant growth and development. In flowering plants, 13-OH GAs (having low bioactivity-for example, GA1) and 13-H GAs (having high bioactivity-for example, GA4) frequently coexist in the same plant. However, the identity of the native Arabidopsis thaliana 13-hydroxylase GA and its physiological functions remain unknown. Here, we report that cytochrome P450 genes (CYP72A9 and its homologues) encode active GA 13-hydroxylases in Brassicaceae. Plants overexpressing CYP72A9 exhibited semi-dwa

Satsuma (Citrus unshiu [Mak] Marc.) and Clementine (Citrus reticulata [Hort.] Ex. Tanaka, cv Oroval) are two species of seedless mandarins differing in their tendency to develop parthenocarpic fruits. Satsuma is a male-sterile cultivar that shows a high degree of natural parthenocarpy and a high fruit set. Seedless Clementine varieties are self-incompatible, and in the absence of cross-pollination show a very low ability to set fruit. The gibberellins (GAs) GA53, putative 17-OH-GA(53), GA(44), GA(17), GA(19), GA(20), GA(29), GA(1), 3-epi-GA(1), GA(8), GA(24), GA(9), and GA(4) have been identif

Immature pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) seeds contain gibberellin (GA) oxidases with unique catalytic properties resulting in GAs of unknown function for plant growth and development. Overexpression of pumpkin GA 7-oxidase (CmGA7ox) in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) resulted in seedlings with elongated roots, taller plants that flower earlier with only a little increase in bioactive GA4 levels compared to control plants. In the same way, overexpression of the pumpkin GA 3-oxidase1 (CmGA3ox1) resulted in a GA overdose phenotype with increased levels of endogenous GA4. This indicates that, in Ar

Plants regulate root development in response to fluctuating environmental conditions, including establishing symbiotic relationships with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen-fixing bacteria under nutrient limitation. These processes are orchestrated by plant hormones, particularly gibberellins, and the repressors of gibberellin signalling, DELLA proteins. Gibberellin and DELLAs serve as critical regulators in symbiotic signalling and root organogenesis, integrating hormonal and environmental cues with cellular patterning to direct plant development. This review explores the current under

To investigate the functions of NAC-like genes, we reported the characterization and functional analysis of one Arabidopsis NAC-like gene which showed a novel function in the regulation of gibberellin biosynthesis and named as GIBBERELLIN SUPPRESSING FACTOR (GSF). GSF acts as a transcriptional activator and has transactivation capacity based on yeast transcription activity assays. YFP + GSF-TM (lacking a transmembrane domain) fusion proteins accumulated in the nuclei, while the YFP + GSF fusion proteins only accumulated in the ER membrane and were absent from the nuclei. These results revealed

This study aims to investigate the endogenous gibberellin levels and related genes analysis of noxious invasive weed Heracleum sosnowskyi. Genome-wide identification, phylogenetic analysis, conserved motif analysis, and gene structure characterization of GA-oxidases were performed. We analysed endogenous GAs levels and the expression of target HsGAoxs in response to GA3 within H. sosnowskyi developing ovaries. Twenty-seven HsGAoxs genes were identified, distributed across eleven chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis classified proteins into the HsGA20ox, C19-HsGA2ox, and HsGA3ox subfamilies, faci

Pharmaceutical active compounds such as diclofenac (DCF) pose serious risks to aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, the development of safe and inexpensive phytoremediation strategies is essential. This study assessed the effect of foliar-applied biological gibberellin (BG; 0, 50, 100, and 150 mg L-1), produced by Fusarium proliferatum, on the remediation capacity of Atriplex lentiformis halophyte grown hydroponically under DCF contamination (0, 15, and 30 μg L-1). A. lentiformis effectively removed DCF from the medium, while BG implementation further boosted the DCF removal efficiency, bioaccumulat

BACKGROUND: Gibberellin-regulated proteins (GRPs, Peamaclein) are allergens recently identified in plant-derived food allergy (FA), and little is known about the clinical manifestations of this allergic condition in the European population, especially in children.
OBJECTIVE: Our study aimed to identify and characterize pediatric patients with pollen-FA due to GRP sensitization.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the charts of patients referred to the Allergy Unit of the Meyer Children's Hospital in Florence for suspected FA. Three main eligibility criteria based on the actual knowledge of

The 'green revolution' was fueled by the introduction of the semi-dwarf trait into cereal crop cultivars. The semi-dwarf cultivars--which respond abnormally to the plant growth hormone gibberellin (GA)--are more resistant to wind and rain damage and thus yield more grain when fertilized. To generate dwarf rice plants using a biotechnological approach, we modified the level of GA by overproduction of a GA catabolic enzyme, GA 2-oxidase. When the gene encoding GA 2-oxidase, OsGA2ox1, was constitutively expressed by the actin promoter, transgenic rice showed severe dwarfism but failed to set grai

Gibberellins (GAs) are central regulators of plant growth and development, yet their involvement in somatic embryogenesis (SE) has received limited attention and often produces contradictory results. This review critically examines the current knowledge on the role of GAs in SE by integrating evidence from physiological, molecular, and developmental studies across a wide range of plant species. Available data indicate that exogenous GAs and GA biosynthesis inhibitors can either promote or inhibit the induction, progression, and conversion of somatic embryos, depending on the species, genotype,

Strigolactones (SLs) regulate diverse developmental phenomena. Rice SL biosynthesis and signaling mutants have an increased number of tillers and a reduced plant height relative to wild-type (WT) rice plants. In this study, we tested the effectiveness of gibberellin (GA) on restoring more tillering phenotype and dwarfism observed in both SL biosynthesis and signaling mutants. The application of GA to these mutants rescued the tiller bud outgrowth; however, the sensitivity to GA was different between the WT and the SL biosynthesis mutant.

Root elongation depends on the action of the gibberellin (GA) growth hormones, which promote cell production in the root meristem and cell expansion in the elongation zone. Sites of GA biosynthesis in the roots of 7-d-old Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings were investigated using tissue-specific GA inactivation in wild-type (Col-0) or rescue of GA-deficient dwarf mutants. Tissue-specific GA depletion was achieved by ectopic expression of the GA-inactivating enzyme AtGA2ox2, which is specific for C19 -GAs, and AtGA2ox7, which acts on C20 -GA precursors. In addition, tissue-specific rescue of ga20ox

Plant growth and development are coordinated by several groups of small-molecule hormones, including brassinosteroids (BRs) and gibberellins (GAs). Physiological and molecular studies have suggested the existence of crosstalk between BR and GA signaling. We report that BZR1, a key transcription factor activated by BR signaling, interacts in vitro and in vivo with REPRESSOR OF ga1-3 (RGA), a member of the DELLA family of transcriptional regulators that inhibits the GA signaling pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana. Genetic analyses of plants with mutations in the genes encoding RGA and BZR1 revealed

Anthocyanins are crucial secondary metabolites in apple, which determine the commercial value of the fruit and confer essential protection against environmental stresses. Their biosynthesis is governed by a complex network of structural and regulatory genes, modulated by developmental cues, environmental factors, and phytohormone signaling. Emerging evidence highlights gibberellins (GAs) as pivotal regulators of anthocyanin accumulation in apple. Here, we review the current understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying gibberellin (GA)-mediated anthocyanin biosynthesis. We specifically

Plants constantly perceive and process environmental signals and balance between the energetic demands of growth and defense. Growth arrest upon pathogen attack was previously suggested to result from a redirection of the plants' metabolic resources towards the activation of plant defense. The energy sensor Target of Rapamycin (TOR) kinase is a conserved master coordinator of growth and development in all eukaryotes. Although TOR is positioned at the interface between development and defense, little is known about the mechanisms by which TOR may potentially regulate the relationship between th

We report coding and long noncoding RNAs in maize upon phytohormone gibberellin stimulation. Plant hormone gibberellin (GA) orchestrates various facets of biological processes. Dissection the transcriptomic dynamics upon GA stimulation has biological significance. Feature of maize transcriptome in response to GA application remains largely elusive. Herein, two types of plants, one was with normal height, the other was GA-sensitive dwarfism, were selected from advanced backcross population for GA3 treatment with different concentrations. In control and GA3-treated plants, we identified a large

BACKGROUND: To date, three orange allergens have been reported. However, it is still unclear whether gibberellin-regulated proteins (GRPs), identified as new allergens in other fruit allergies, are also involved in orange allergy.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the allergenicity of orange GRP and to determine the clinical characteristics of patients with orange allergy who are sensitized to orange GRP.
METHODS: We enrolled 14 patients (four men, 10 women, mean age: 29.6 years) who were diagnosed with orange allergy based on relevant clinical history, positive skin test, and/or positive challenge

Controlled release formulations (CRFs) are promising in improving the efficiency of pesticide and minimizing the spreading of hazardous residues in environment. By coupling with the pesticide covalently, chitosan can be used as a carrier material for the vulnerable ingredient. For the first time, gibberellic acid (GA3), one of plant growth regulators, was attached to chitosan (CS) to form a GA3-CS conjugate via the formation of an amide bound using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide. The novel conjugate was structurally characterized by fourier transform inf

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a unique class of plant steroid hormones that orchestrate myriad growth and developmental processes. Although BRs have long been known to protect plants from a suite of biotic and abiotic stresses, our understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms is still rudimentary. Aiming to further decipher the molecular logic of BR-modulated immunity, we have examined the dynamics and impact of BRs during infection of rice (Oryza sativa) with the root oomycete Pythium graminicola. Challenging the prevailing view that BRs positively regulate plant innate immunity, we show

Gibberellin (GA) promotes plant growth primarily by triggering degradation of DELLA transcription regulators, yet how DELLA activity is fine-tuned dynamically by phosphorylation independently of proteolysis remains poorly understood. Here, we show that the CDK8 kinase module of the Mediator complex attenuates activity of the Arabidopsis DELLA protein REPRESSOR OF ga1-3 (RGA) by modulating coactivator recruitment. Using TurboID-based proximity labeling, biochemical and genetic analyses, we identify CDK8 as an in planta kinase that phosphorylates RGA at Ser170 within its disordered PolyS/T regio
