The aim of the current article is to analyze and compare post-retraction gingival height changes resulting from six different types of gingival-displacement methods, encompassing both conventional and surgical approaches. The study involved a comparative analysis of 263 teeth (consisting of 128 front teeth, 69 premolars, and 66 molars) from 23 patients. For the investigation, three classic retraction methods were utilized, namely the single-cord technique, retraction paste Expasyl, and retraction paste Astringent. Additionally, three surgical techniques were employed, which included ceramic bu

AIM: To evaluate and compare the effect of impregnated retraction cord vs Laser on gingival attachment level and pain perception following retraction for subgingival margins.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Many methods for achieving and measuring the amount of gingival retraction in fixed prosthodontic work have been advocated. Though the gingival attachment level is crucial in Periodontology, the literature available regarding the effect of these retraction methods on the same is scarce. Hence, this clinical study was designed to compare the pain perception and amount of gingival recession when impreg

On the basis of wound healing and gingival recession caused by the three procedures, the copper-band retraction method was the most satisfactory. This tentative conclusion is based on the following reasons: 1. Retraction methods must be evaluated relative to the impression procedure and fit of the restoration. The long-range effects of the marginal fit are probably the most important factor for enhancing periodontal health. 2. This study involved only healthy periodontia of adolescent patients. Different healing might be observed in tissues characterized by gingivitis or periodontitis. 3. A br

When it is necessary to place casting margins subgingivally, it is important that they not violate the biologic width. A technique utilizing nonmedicated retraction cord during preparation is described which has several advantages. It results in bloodless, trauma-free tooth preparation and concealment of the metal margin without biologic width impingement or gingival recession. A resilient, unattached gingival margin free of inflammation is critical for the success of this technique. The physical and chemical properties of healthy gingival collagen and ground substance are briefly discussed al

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The mechanical-chemical technique and the use of a laser are methods for displacing the gingiva to make an accurate impression of the preparation for a complete crown. The tissue needs to be displaced and the hemorrhage controlled to capture the prepared finishing line in the impression. The degree of undesirable gingival recession after these displacement techniques is unknown.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this pilot clinical study was to clinically monitor and compare the regeneration of the gingival tissue by using 2 methods of gingival displacement in the same participant

Taking a conventional implant abutment-level impression with the gingival retraction technique can cause side effects such as gingival recession and bleeding. In order to overcome these problems, an impression technique using digital superimposition of the customized abutment is newly introduced. In this technique, digital impression data and pre-scanned abutment data are superimposed to reproduce the abutment's location and shape on computer-aided design software. The present investigation was conducted to evaluate the clinical accuracy of the newly adapted digital superimposition impression

Background: An accurate determination of the biological width and the relationship of the cemento-enamel junction with the border of the alveolar bone is crucial during a clinical crown-lengthening (CCL) procedure. The aim of this study was to present a technical note about the retraction techniques in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) prior to CCL, highlighting the significant enhancement in procedural accuracy and predictability that these techniques offer. Methods: Clinical and radiological examinations should be performed before a CCL procedure. It is necessary to determine the length o

The use of direct composite resin for diastema closure has technique advantages, including that the restorative procedure can be carried out in one appointment at a reasonable cost and without the removal of sound tooth structure. The use of a rubber dam for closing diastemas with composite resin is of paramount importance as it prevents moisture contamination and ensures increased gingival retraction compared to other techniques. This provides better access to the cervical area of the tooth, facilitating proper placement of resin to recreate the natural anatomical contours and contact point.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Gingival displacement can be effectively performed using mechanical, mechanical-chemical, or laser-based techniques without complications. However, comparative studies evaluating the impact of these methods on inflammatory cytokine levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and the extent of gingival recession after displacement are lacking.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this randomized split-mouth clinical study was to compare 4 gingival displacement techniques in terms of their effects on gingival recession, levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in GCF, and patient-re

BACKGROUND: Piezoelectric surgery is a newly introduced technique for rapid tooth movement. However, the efficiency of this technique has not been investigated on en-masse retraction cases yet.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficiency of piezosurgery technique in accelerating miniscrew supported en-masse retraction and study the biological tissue response. In addition, to show if this technique induces a difference in dental, skeletal and soft tissue changes on lateral cephalograms, and in canine and molar rotations, besides intercanine and intermolar widths on dental casts.

Endodontic microsurgery (EMS) is often utilized to surgically treat teeth with persistent endodontic lesions when conventional nonsurgical endodontic treatments have been unsuccessful. However, EMS with conventional techniques may result in esthetic concerns, such as gingival recession, papilla loss, and soft tissue scarring, especially in patients with high esthetic demands. This manu-script describes a dual-layer flap preparation approach that utilizes an external coronally advanced flap (CAF) and an internal trapdoor periosteal flap (TPF) for EMS in the esthetic zone. The external CAF is a

This article presents an endoperiodontal lesion treated with a subepithelial connective tissue graft technique using periosteum. A patient with a right lateral maxillary incisor that had been retracted endodontically had gingival fenestration and recession, as well as an extensive apical lesion. Surgery was performed, and 5 months later a metal-ceramic crown was installed. At 6 years post-treatment, the periodontal tissues were stable and there was satisfactory new apical bone formation.

Prosthodontics is a dental specialty with a long history of providing patients with prostheses to restore or replace damaged or missing teeth and dentition. Gingival retraction is a vital step after tooth preparation to obtain aesthetic and functional restorations. Gingival retraction materials have been used in clinics and are among the most prospective alternatives to gingival retraction cords. However, gingival bleeding, increased tension of the gingiva, and saliva flushing after tooth preparation might cause difficulties in gingival retraction. The previous materials generally have inadequ

Background and Objectives: Periodontal health represents a condition characterized by homeostasis between the teeth and the surrounding supporting tissues and implies the absence of inflammation, confirmed by the lack of bleeding, epithelial attachment loss, mobility, or periodontal pocket formation. Fixed prosthetic restorations may compromise periodontal health already during the fabrication phase, given that decisions made during their planning and placement affect long-term clinical outcomes. The aim of this manuscript was to provide insight into the interaction between periodontal tissues
