Width of keratinized tissue after gingivoplasty of healed subepithelial connective tissue grafts.

BACKGROUND: The subepithelial connective tissue graft has markedly broadened clinicians' abilities to treat gingival recession. Frequently, however, bulky soft tissue contours are sequelae of this procedure, and post-healing gingivoplasty is often performed to improve esthetics of the grafted site. As a secondary benefit, it is believed that the zone of keratinized tissue is additionally increased after gingivoplasty. METHODS: To further investigate this clinical impression, 16 bilateral pairs of sites with recession in 6 consecutive patients (mean age = 38 +/- 9 years) were studied. At the t

[Osteo-gingivoplasty in the combined treatment of periodontitis and in the prevention of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis at a polyclinic].

The authors suggest a method for surgical treatment of periodontitis using allogenic demineralized bone tissue of adults and fetuses. This method was effectively used at dentistry clinics of the Samara Province starting from 1984. A total of 177 patients with generalized and local periodontitis of medium and grave severity aged 19 to 55 were operated on. The process stabilized, the teeth were fortified. The method is effective not only therapy of periodontitis, but for prevention of its complications as well, of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis among other conditions.

Management of Gingival Overgrowth in a Cardiac Transplant Patient Using Laser-Assisted Gingivectomy/Gingivoplasty.

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) is an oral clinical manifestation associated with certain medications such as immunosuppressants that are administered to organ transplant patients to prevent graft rejection. In patients with cardiac transplants, management of DIGO is critical. In such patients, plaque biofilm accumulation at the gingival interface might be detrimental as it may lead to transient bacteremia as well as systemic inflammation resulting in thromboembolic events. This case report describes the management of DIGO in a cardiac transplant recipient by change of immunosuppressan

Changes in Keratinized Tissue Width Following Connective Tissue Grafts and Diode Laser- vs Blade-Gingivoplasty.

The objectives of this study were to clinically and histologically assess the capacity of bilaminar subepithelial connective tissue grafts (SCTGs) alone or in combination with gingivoplasty (Gv) to increase the keratinized gingiva width (KGW) in contralateral mandibular sites lacking KG (10 patients, 42 sites). The effects of Gv timing (1 vs 2 months) and technique (blade vs laser) were also evaluated. SCTGs alone resulted in mean KGW increase of 0.1 to 0.7 mm. Laser-Gv significantly increased KGW by an additional 1.9 mm at 4 months postabrasion as opposed to 0.9 mm achieved with blade-Gv. His

Orthodontic characteristics of maxillary arch deficiency in 5-year-old patients undergoing unilateral cleft lip and palate repair with and without early gingivoplasty.

The purpose of this study was to compare the maxillary arch morphology in 5-year-old children treated for unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) with early gingivoplasty (EGP) and without this procedure (non-EGP). Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging was used to verify which measurements and to what degree specific orthodontic parameters differ in both groups. The study included 120 non-syndromic 4.5-5.5-year-old children treated surgically at the age of 6-18 months. Fifty-six children underwent EGP utilising a Skoog-type of technique. The (non-EGP) group consisted of 64 patients. Patients in both

Management of Orthodontic-Induced Gingival Enlargement: A Case Report.

The aetiology of gingival enlargement (GE) is highly distinct. Plaque-induced gingival inflammation can be the sole reason for gingival enlargement. Poor dental hygiene, irritation from anatomical variations, and ineffective restorative and orthodontic appliances are all factors that encourage the formation and retention of plaque. In the given case report, a case of gingival enlargement associated with an orthodontic appliance of a 23-year-old female patient referred from the Department of Orthodontics was reported to the Department of Periodontics. Under local anaesthesia, the excess gingiva

A multidisciplinary approach to managing severe gummy smile using 3D simulation and digital surgical guide: a case report.

A smile that reveals >4 mm of gum tissue is called a gummy smile (GS), offering negative impacts on people's self-confidence and aesthetic appearance. The treatment for GS should be planned according to underlying causes such as altered passive eruption of teeth, dentoalveolar extrusion, vertical maxillary excess, and short or hyperactive lip muscles. In this case report, a patient with severe GS received orthodontic and gingivoplasty treatment, aided by digital tools such as 3D simulation, smile design, and 3D printed guides. The treatment yielded remarkable and satisfactory results, without

Syndromic gingival fibromatosis associated with pathogenic variation in the voltage-gated potassium channel gene KCNH1: a case report and proposed treatment protocol.

BACKGROUND: The KCNH1 gene (OMIM #603,305) encodes a voltage-gated potassium channel primarily found in the central nervous system. Recent discoveries have linked pathogenic variations in this gene to Temple-Baraitser syndrome (TMBTS, OMIM #611,816) and Zimmermann-Laband syndrome (ZLS, OMIM #135,500). A common manifestation of these syndromes is gingival fibromatosis, which may partially or completely cover tooth crowns, leading in some cases to functional and aesthetic problems, as well as delayed tooth eruption. CASE PRESENTATION: A four-year-old boy and his parents first consulted for dela
