BACKGROUND: The "terrestrial island" effect of the karst landscape in southwest China drives plant diversification, with Petrocodon (Gesneriaceae) being a highly specialized representative. Frequent taxonomic revisions and severe morphological convergent evolution obscure its intrageneric phylogeny.
