Two transplant candidates sensitized during pregnancy by a B*44:02 mismatch showed antibodies that reacted with an epitope defined by the 145R+82LR eplet pair shared by all Bw4 antigens in single allele Luminex panels except B13. Both eplets are on one or more alleles of the antibody producer and according to HLAMatchmaker, they are considered intralocus and interlocus matches which should not induce antibodies. The recently developed nonself-self paradigm for HLA epitope immunogenicity has offered a ready explanation why the pair of self-145R and self-82LR eplets on B*44:02 induced specific a

BACKGROUND: Serological typing of the human leucocyte antigen (HLA) has shown discrepancies in HLA associations with vitiligo in different ethnic populations.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the distributions of HLA at class I and II loci that may contribute to the genetic susceptibility of vitiligo patients in Chinese Hans population.
METHODS: We analysed the allelic frequencies of HLA class I and II by using the polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific primer (PCR-SSP) method in 187 patients with vitiligo and 273 controls in Chinese Hans. The linkage disequilibrium was calculated from a 2 x 2 ta

The authors have performed an investigation of the association between ulcer disease of the duodenum and bleedings from the ulcers in 204 patients after transplantations of the kidney with the antigen of HLA system histocompatibility. Duodenal ulcers were found in 25 patients (12.9%), in 11 of them the ulcers were complicated by bleedings which was 5.4% of the total number of the patients with the transplanted kidney. The evaluation of the HLA antigen distribution has revealed an association of duodenal ulcers with A2 and B13 antigens which took place significantly more often than in a group o

40 unrelated patients with Psoriasis vulgaris were studied for their HLA-A, B and DRw antigen phenotypes. All underwent a skin biopsy to confirm diagnosis. Like most of the authors, we observed an increase in B13 and B17 antigens (17,50 and 25%) whereas in the healthy population the percentage was (5 and 6,02%) respectively. The strong increase in DRw7 suggests that psoriasis vulgaris was associated with DRw7 antigens, with an unbalanced linkage between the B13 and DRw7 antigens and between the B17 and DRw7 antigens.

HLA antigens (A, B, C and DR loci) were studied in 62 IgA-deficient (IgAd) paediatric patients: 17 with coeliac disease (CD), 13 with juvenile arthritis (JA), 27 with frequent respiratory tract infections (RTI) and five with other diseases. The frequencies of HLA antigens in IgAd patients were compared with those in healthy blood donors, and in CD and JA patients with normal serum IgA levels. The IgA deficiency in the patients showed significant associations with HLA A1, B8, B13, Cw6, DR3 and DR7 (P less than 0.0005, P corr less than 0.02 vs controls) and decreased frequencies of DR2 (P less t

In order to find associations among the genetic, immunological and environmental factors that might be important in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, the relationship between streptococcal antigen- or mitogen-induced lymphocyte responses in vitro and HLA phenotypes was studied in 23 patients with psoriasis. Patients showed an elevated lymphocyte response to somatic A-streptococcal antigens when compared with healthy controls. In contrast, the response to mitogens (PHA, Con A, PWM) was impaired in patients with psoriasis. The impaired mitogen-induced lymphocyte transformation was found mostly in p

HLA-A, B, C, D, and DR antigens in 40 Japanese patients with psoriasis vulgaris were analysed using the antisera obtained from the Seventh International Histocompatibility Workshop. The most deviant HLA antigens in psoriasis were found to be HLA-Cw6 and DRw7. by observing the HLA-A, B, C and DR antigens en bloc in psoriasis, it is shown that the statistically significantly associated haplotype antigens were HLA-A1, B13, Cw6 and DRw7, and A1, B37, Cw6 and DRw6 respectively. No HLA-Dw11 (LD17) antigen was associated with the disease.

Histocompatibility antigens were determined in 93 unrelated Irish psoriatic patients. The results were compared with the HLA profiles of 253 healthy unrelated Irish controls. There was a statistically significant increase in HLA B17 (P < 0.0001), B13 (P = 0.02), and B27 (P = 0.015) among the psoriatic patients. The frequency of HLAB8 (P = 0.002) and HLA B12 (P = 0.001) was lower than expected. When the subgroup of patients with psoriatic arthritis was evaluated separately, it was noted that the increase in HLAB27 was highly statistically significant (P < 0.0001). The relative risks of an Irish

The purpose of the study was to classify psoriasis vulgaris basing on HLA phenotype and the age of onset of the disease. One hundred fifteen psoriatic patients were included into the study and divided into two groups: group I--with early onset (< 40 years) and group II--with late onset (> or = 40 years). Each group was subclassified according to Cw6 antigen expression: IA-Cw(6+)--early onset, IB-Cw(6-)--early onset, IIA-Cw(6+)--late onset, IIB-Cw(6-)--late onset. HLA class I antigen typing was performed in each of 115 subjects using the microlymphocytotoxicity test. HLA class II antigen typing

24 psoriasis vulgaris patients were investigated for the expression of class II HLA antigens on the surface of PWM-stimulated T lymphocytes. The percentage of the expression of HLA-DP antigens ranged from 50.1% to 82.6% compared to a 100% level in healthy controls (p less than 0.005). No significant differences in the expression of HLA-DR antigens were observed. A higher frequency of some HLA antigens was found in the group of patients studied: B13 - 23.1%/6.2%, B 17 - 15.4%/7.1%, and Dw7 - 59.4%/15.8%.

HLA antigens were determined in 25 Finnish patients with both Reiter's disease and skin lesions identical with psoriasis vulgaris. HLA B27 was found in 23 cases (92%) B13 was found in one case, Bw17 and Bw37 were not found at all. The absence of these three "psoriatic" HLA antigens in the present series indicates that the psoriasis-like skin lesions belong to the varying clinical picture of Reiter's disease and not to the HLA linked psoriasis vulgaris.

The frequencies of blood groups, Rh and HLA antigens were studied in a series of patients with paracoccidioidomycosis as well as in control subjects. Statistical analysis of the results showed that only 2 antigens (HLA-A9 and HLA-B13) had a significantly increased frequency among patients with paracoccidioidomycosis compared with healthy controls. Among patients with paracoccidioidomycosis antigen HLA-A9 was significantly more prevalent in progressive pulmonary forms of the disease than in patients with extra pulmonary involvement. These observations suggest that HLA-A9 may influence susceptib

In 26 patients with hydatid disease interferons (IFN) blood levels by titration method and HLA-antigens by lymphocyte cytotoxicity microtest were estimated. In total group B5 antigen frequency was significantly (p = 0.007 after Fischer) higher than in the control group of 155 practically healthy persons: 38.5% and 14.7% respectively. The determination of possible correlation between IFN-alpha and IFN-gamma production, HLA-antigens specificity and the localisation of Echinococcus granulosus cysts showed that in hydatid disease A2 and B5 antigens carriers are significantly stronger producers of

A significant increase of some HLA antigens (B13, B17) was shown in 122 psoriasis patients, compared to 176 unrelated individuals of the control group. This finding is not completely secondary to an increase in Cw6, supporting the opinion that different loci within the HLA region are responsible for different forms of the disease. Some familial cases of psoriasis suggest a possible involvement of Bw35, despite the fact that the increase of this antigen in a random population was not significant for the corrected value. In this case it seems likely that a gene associated with Bw35 may be respon

BACKGROUND: Reports on the association between human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) and childhood minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) are variable. The association between HLA class I and MCNS has not been tested among Egyptian children.
METHODS: We studied such associations in a group of steroid-responsive MCNS Egyptian children (n=37) in comparison to a group of healthy Egyptians (n=100). Typing was performed using standard lymphocytotoxicity assay.
RESULTS: The frequency of HLA-B27 was remarkably higher among MCNS children (18.9%) compared with the control group (1%) (p<0.001, risk ratio

Class I HLA antigens were determined in 42 patients with diffuse toxic goiter (DTG), 31 patients with autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) and in 71 donors. A degree of association of antigen and disease (R) and difference in the frequency of some HLA antigen bearing in the groups of patients and healthy persons were revealed. Positive association of DTG with antigens A1, A3, B8, haplotype A1-B8 and AT with A1 and B35 was established. The bearing of B13 antigen in DTG and A11 in AT was a protective factor in the development of the above diseases. A study of the comparative distribution of HLA antigens

Tissue typing was performed on lymphocytes of sixty-two patients with guttate psoriasis, in forty-four of whom this was the first manifestations of the disease. In 84% of cases, the guttate psoriasis was preceded by a clinical infection. A highly significant excess of antigen W17 (HLA-BW17) was found in patients when compared with healthy population. In common with some other studies antigens HL-A13 (HLA-B13), W15 (HLA-BW15) and W21 (HLA-BW21) were found in excess but these became non-significant after correction for the number of antigens studied. 68% of patients who had guttate psoriasis de

HLA typing was performed in 14 patients with psoriasiform napkin dermatitis (PND). Only 2 patients carried one of the three antigens (HLA-B13, B17, Bw37) associated with psoriasis vulgaris. The frequency of these antigens in PND corresponds to that in healthy controls, but differs significantly (p less than 0.01) from that in a population of psoriatics. Our results indicate that patients with PND are not true psoriatics, and that PND and psoriasis are different etiological entities.

HLA antigens were determined in 14 Finnish families with psoriatic members. The pedigrees of all families are presented. The results showed a clear association between HLA B13 and inheritable psoriasis, for all the 14 HLA analysed psoriatic patients in four families had B13. In one family all five psoriatic patients had the haplotype HLA-A10, Bw17; in two other families the association between Bw17 and psoriasis was less obvious. In three families six of the eight children with the haplotype A1, Bw37 had psoriasis. In all these families one parent had psoriasis or psoriatic relatives and the o
