The cross-sectional data were collected by an anonymous online survey in the fall semester 2018. The findings showed that (a) higher levels of verbal sexual harassment and physical violence among students were associated with higher levels of equivalent types of violence against PE teachers,

This article examines (a) variation in rates of sexual harassment across mode (e.g., in-person, online) and type of harassment, (b) the impact of sexual harassment (i.e., distressing vs. non-distressing), and (c) how sexual harassment is similarly and differently experienced across sexual orientation and gender identity groups. Online Sexual Harassment, Disordered Eating Attitudes, and Body Shame in Young Women.

Sexual harassment is associated with disordered eating in young women, directly and indirectly, via body shame. However, today, young women are not only experiencing sexual harassment in-person, but also online. We recruited a non-clinical sample of young women (N = 146) to examine the direct and indirect relationships between online sexual harassment, disordered eating attitudes, and body shame. Findings revealed that online sexual harassment positively predicted disordered eating attitudes directly and indirectly, via body shame. These findings offer initial support for examining the utility

Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence Victimization: Results From an Online Survey of Australian Adults.

Online forms of sexual harassment and abuse as experienced by adults represent an emerging yet under-researched set of behaviors, such that very few studies have sought to estimate the extent of the problem. This article presents the results of an online survey of 2,956 Australian adult (aged 18 to 54 years) experiences of technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) victimization. The prevalence of TFSV was analyzed in relation to a 21-item scale developed in accordance with prior conceptual research identifying multiple dimensions of TFSV including digital sexual harassment, image-based sex

Sexual harassment in academia: a hazard to women's health.

Universities and colleges have for a long time ignored sexual harassment, hoped it was non-existent or waited for it to disappear. Recently, however, students, professors and university administrators have begun to recognize the perniciousness and pervasiveness of the problem but thus far with little attention to sexual harassment as a health hazard. Based on data collected by questionnaire from 455 women university undergraduate and graduate students and nine follow-up in-depth interviews, this study examines the dimensions and dynamics of sexual harassment as a health hazard for women. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of abuse and harassment in a sample of EM residencies. METHODS: We conducted a cross-section survey of EM residents from 10 residencies. EM residents were asked about their ex

Men's harassment behavior in online video games: Personality traits and game factors.

Online video games afford co-play and social interaction, often anonymous, among players from around the world. As predicted by the social identity model of deindividuation effects, undesirable behavior is not uncommon in online gaming environments, and online harassment has become a pervasive issue in the gaming community. In this study, we sought to determine what personality traits and game-related variables predicted two types of online aggression in video games: general harassment (e.g., skill-based taunting, insulting others' intelligence) and sexual harassment (e.g., sexist comments, ra

Risk factors of sexual violence perpetration and victimization among adolescents: A study of Norwegian high school students.

Sexual violence among adolescents represents a significant problem in society. In this study, we aimed to examine risk factors for sexual violence perpetration in adolescent men and victimization in adolescent women among a community sample of Norwegian high school students. The participants (560 men and 751 women, aged between 16 and 21 years) responded to online questionnaires covering physical and non-physical forms of sexual harassment and possible risk factors identified in the literature. Last year's prevalence rate of physical sexual perpetration reported by adolescent men was 7%. Compa
