Anger and health risk behaviors.

The present paper makes a research about negative effects of anger and hostile conduct on peoples' health status. We have studied scientific articles published between 2000 and 2010, which did not contradict our initial assumption. The literature demonstrates that anger, wheatear suppressed or expressed, can determine various diseases, it can influence the conduct of people suffering from bulimia nervosa or it can be the cause for the growing number of car accidents. In order to avoid these risks, the intervention should not be limited to medication, but it should also involve a psychological

Risky music-listening behaviors and associated health-risk behaviors.

OBJECTIVE: To examine, among adolescents and emerging adults attending inner-city lower education, associations between risky music-listening behaviors (from MP3 players and in discotheques and at pop concerts) and more traditional health-risk behaviors: substance use (cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, and hard drugs) and unsafe sexual intercourse. METHODS: A total of 944 students in Dutch inner-city senior-secondary vocational schools completed questionnaires about their music-listening and traditional health-risk behaviors. Multiple logistic regression analyses were used to examine association

Health-risk behaviors and health concerns among young adolescents.

This study examined the health concerns and behaviors of 563 adolescents (aged 11 through 14) from a variety of social, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Behaviors associated with adolescent morbidity and mortality were examined, including sexual behavior, substance use, and injury-related behaviors. Although young adolescents are often viewed as unlikely participants in these risk behaviors, the results of this study suggest that greater attention should be paid to this younger group and their health-risk behaviors. A majority of the sample had tried alcohol and tobacco, and almost a third had

Overweight, obesity, youth, and health-risk behaviors.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence and severity of obesity have increased among children and adolescents. Although the medical and psychosocial consequences of youth obesity have been well documented, comparatively less information exists on the association of overweight/obesity with health-risk behaviors, which are considered to be a primary threat to adolescent health. PURPOSE: This study aims to examine the association of overweight and obesity with health-risk behaviors among U.S. youth. METHODS: Self-reported height and weight, substance use, violence, and bullying were assessed in a nationally

Risk Factors, Lifestyle Behaviors, and Vascular Brain Health.

Although a relationship between traditional cardiovascular risk factors and stroke has long been recognized, these risk factors likely play a role in other aspects of brain health. Clinical stroke is only the tip of the iceberg of vascular brain injury that includes covert infarcts, white matter hyperintensities, and microbleeds. Furthermore, an individual's risk for not only stroke but poor brain health includes not only these traditional vascular risk factors but also lifestyle and genetic factors. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarize the state of the evidence on traditional

Deportation enforcement, mental health, and health risk behaviors of hispanic adolescents.

This study estimates the causal effect of intensified deportation enforcement on adolescent mental health and related behaviors. We pool data from the CDC's biennial Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, 2009-2019, covering students in grades 9-12. Our primary analysis focuses on 174,454 Hispanic adolescents, weighted to be representative of enrolled students in participating jurisdictions. We implement an exposure difference-in-differences design that exploits the national reinstatement of Secure Communities in 2017 and cross-state variation in pre-policy exposure (the year-2000 unauthoriz

Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Health Behaviors of Women Veterans.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, and women Veterans (WVs) face elevated risk due to traditional factors (hypertension (HTN), hyperlipidemia (HLD), obesity, diabetes, and smoking) and nontraditional factors (depression and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD]). Racial and ethnic disparities further affect their cardiovascular health. This study describes CVD prevalence, risk factors, and health behaviors among WVs to inform interventions. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was sent to 1,909 WVs receiving care at a VA Medical Center

Health risk behaviors: prevention priorities among Portuguese incarcerated males.

PURPOSE: Incarcerated people have been identified as a vulnerable population prone to health risk behaviors (HRBs). This study aims to compare a set of HRBs in Portuguese incarcerated males with a community-matched control group and explore the influence of social-emotional competences and self-control on these behaviors. The authors expect that incarcerated males would present more HRBs in comparison to the community sample. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The study included 573 participants (312 incarcerated males and 251 males from the community). FINDINGS: Incarcerated males exhibited highe
