Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) presents a promising alternative for addressing mental health challenges, particularly in treatment-resistant conditions, yet little exists in the literature guiding its implementation in an Indigenous context, for Indigenous participants, or describing culturally adapted delivery models. This paper presents insights and lessons learned from a collaborative pilot program between Siksika Health Services and ATMA CENA to design and deliver a culturally responsive KAT program within the Siksika First Nation in Alberta Canada. The initiative aimed to explore the fea

METHODS: Literature review, using PubMed, Cochrane, MEDLINE, and gray literature was conducted to identify articles published more than 2010-2020 examining children's surgical health service delivery (epidemiology, access, operations provided) and outcomes for pediatric patients

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to identify differences in health service expenditure on Indigenous and non-Indigenous women who experience a stillbirth, women's out-of-pocket costs, and health service use.
METHODS: The project used a whole-of-population linked data set called "Maternity1000," which includes all women who gave birth in Queensland, Australia, between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2018 (n = 396 158). Multivariable analysis was undertaken to assess differences in mean health service expenditure; and number of health care services accessed between Indigenous and non-Indige

OBJECTIVE: To explore the associations between sociodemographic and cultural predictors of health service use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (respectfully referred to as Indigenous Australians) in Southeast Queensland with mental health concerns.
METHOD: Queensland Urban Indigenous Mental Health Survey data was analysed to investigate predictors of health service use within an adult sample of Indigenous Australians who experienced (a) elevated psychological distress or (b) a mental disorder or harmful substance use. Sociodemographic, cultural, and mental health predic

Mental health is a major concern in Indigenous communities, as Indigenous people experience poorer health outcomes generally, and poorer social and emotional well-being throughout their lives, compared to non-Indigenous populations. Interviews were conducted with 20 mental health workers from a housing assistance programme for Indigenous clients with mental illness. Service and infrastructure needs identified to support clients were classified under the following overarching theme 'supports along the road to recovery'. Subthemes were: (i) It is OK to seek help; (ii) linking in to the local com

PARTICIPANTS: The NIEHS included 1189 Indigenous adults aged 40-80 years.
METHODS: A standardized eye examination was performed.

Inequities persist in health services delivery for rural, remote and Indigenous populations internationally. These populations require attention to improve health outcomes for individuals, communities, providers and the health system. Strong collaboration and trusting relationships in rural and Indigenous communities in British Columbia (BC), Canada enabled rapid health services delivery changes in rural BC in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, the Rural Coordination Centre of BC and First Nations Health Authority co-hosted the BC Rural and First Nations Health and Wellness Summi

BACKGROUND: Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) populations have disproportionately high rates of adverse perinatal outcomes relative to other Australians. Poorer access to good quality maternal health care is a key driver of this disparity. The aim of this study was to describe patterns of delivery of maternity care and service gaps in primary care services in Australian Indigenous communities.
METHODS: We undertook a cross-sectional baseline audit for a quality improvement intervention. Medical records of 535 women from 34 Indigenous community health centres in fi

BACKGROUND: To alleviate the rising mortality burden due to hypertension and other non-communicable diseases, a new public health policy initiative in 2009 called the Basic Public Health Services (BPHS). Program was introduced by the Chinese government. The goal of the study is to assess the feasibility and impact of a nationwide health care service-the "BPHS".
METHODS: From January to December 2021, a stratified multistage random sampling method in the survey was conducted to select 6,456 people from 8 cities/districts in Yunnan Province, China, who were above the age of 35 years. 1,521 hype

The status of a fully indigenous mental health program serviced and controlled by the Tohono O'odham (Papago) Indian tribe is reviewed from the perspective of its 17-year history. The program functions in large measure in a crisis intervention model, with suicidal or acutely disturbed cases being most frequent. However, a whole range of disorders and ages are seen. Traditional Medicine Men and Women are often used as consultants, as are some professionals. In recent years child sex abuse and abuse of drugs among youth are prominent problems. The program experienced problems of obtaining servic

In the late 1990s there was major concern regarding heroin use among the Nunga community in Adelaide. [Nunga is a generic term used for Aboriginal people from South Australia, similar to Koori's from Victoria and Nyungars from south-western Australia.] Heroin use was so common that community members reported that most families were affected by it in some way. There were few Nunga specific services provided, and those mainstream services available were not seen as culturally appropriate or for other reasons were difficult to access. In response to this, the Parks Community Health Centre, togeth

OBJECTIVES: To study rheumatic heart disease health literacy and its impact on pregnancy, and to identify how health services could more effectively meet the needs of pregnant women with rheumatic heart disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Researchers observed and interviewed a small number of Aboriginal women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum as they interacted with the health system. An Aboriginal Yarning method of relationship building over time, participant observations and interviews with Aboriginal women were used in the study. The settings were urban, island and

BACKGROUND: Timely diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmissible infections will prevent morbidity and onward transmission. We aimed to assess the efficacy of a point-of-care molecular test for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections at the cluster level to improve infection management among Indigenous Australian communities with high prevalence of sexually transmissible infections.
METHODS: In this cluster-randomised crossover study, we recruited primary health services in Western Australia, Far North Queensland, and South Australia that provide care to Indigenous peop

BACKGROUND: There is limited evidence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people attending cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs despite high levels of heart disease. One key enabler for CR attendance is a culturally safe program. This study evaluates improving access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to attend a CR program in a non-Indigenous health service, alongside improving health workforce cultural safety.
METHODS: An 18-week mixed-methods feasibility study was conducted, with weekly flexible CR sessions delivered by a multidisciplinary team and an Aboriginal and/or To

Developing strong relationships between researchers and Indigenous partners and communities is crucial for mutually beneficial and appropriate Indigenous health research. However, explanations on the need for strong relationships and how they may be achieved are not often found within the research literature. Given the history of mistrust, exploitation and even unethical research practices with Indigenous populations, collaborative research partnerships necessitate good relationships. For our long-standing community-based participatory research partnership, trust in our relationships has been

Indigenous communities hold rich knowledges, cultural practices, and kinship networks that sustain cognitive resilience and nurture brain health across the life course. Yet these enduring strengths are often obscured by biomedical models that overlook the structural determinants of health-including the cumulative effects of colonization, educational inequity, and socioeconomic disadvantage-that diminish brain health. Accordingly, dementia disproportionately affects Indigenous populations globally, often presenting with earlier onset and higher prevalence compared to non-Indigenous groups. This

OBJECTIVE: This study examines disparities in rates and number of telehealth used among Indigenous Medicare mental health services users in Southeast Queensland.
METHODS: We analysed the 2021 Census and Medicare Benefits Schedule data for 298,283 individuals who used MBS-subsidised community mental health services, including 78,048 who used telehealth. Descriptive and regression analyses were conducted.
RESULTS: Indigenous Australians were significantly less likely to use telehealth than non-Indigenous Australians (24.66% vs 26.23%, p < 0.001), although difference was small. Video-based tele
