A 78-year-old female fell and hit the back of her head on the floor. Head computed tomography (CT) showed right acute interhemispheric subdural hematoma (ISDH). Her left hemiparesis worsened, so partial removal of ISDH was performed. The hemiparesis was improved, but leg monoparesis persisted. Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) at the S1-2 level. Nerve conduction velocity measurements at the knee joint to lower limb showed disappearance of the left peroneal nerve conduction wave, indicating that one of the causes of drop foot was common peroneal nerve pals

BACKGROUND: Spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH), which can cause lower back pain, leg pain, and leg weakness, is rare and will usually be associated with a bleeding tendency, trauma, spinal vascular malformation, intraspinal tumor, or iatrogenic invasion. Only a few cases of SSDH after intracranial chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) have been reported. We report a case of lumbar SSDH in the absence of predisposing factors after reoperation for recurrent intracranial CSDH, which improved with conservative treatment.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Approximately 1 month after falling, a 63-year-old woman was exper

Intracranial subdural hematoma is an exceptionally rare but life-threatening complication of spinal anesthesia. We report a case of intracranial subdural hematoma following spinal anesthesia for cesarean section in a 27-year-old woman. She developed a diffuse headache after surgery with a blood pressure of 220/140 mm Hg which was followed by generalized seizure activity. Her blood pressure remained high after medication with diazepam, nifedipine and magnesium sulfate. She remained unconscious with a Glasgow coma scale of 5. The cranial tomography revealed a subdural hematoma with diffuse cereb

Subdural hematoma (SDH) of the spine following intracranial hemorrhage is extremely rare. We present a 35-year-old woman who suffered from headache and dizziness initially, and then lower back pain, lower limb weakness and paraparesis gradually developed within 1-2 weeks. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed intracranial and spinal SDH. No vascular abnormality was seen by brain and spinal angiography. Platelet count, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein, were normal. A diagnosis of spontaneous spinal and intracranial SDH

BACKGROUND: Intracranial subdural hematoma (SDH) following dural puncture (DP) is a life-threatening complication. However, the characteristics and prognosis are little-known.
METHODS: Reports documenting intracranial SDH following DP were surveyed by using PubMed and the Igaku-chuou-zassi (Japana Centra Reveuo Medicina) database (1979-2005) and the cases were analyzed to clarify their characteristics and prognoses.
RESULTS: Sixty-nine case reports were enrolled. Seventy per cent of patients underwent anesthetic procedures including spinal and epidural anesthesia. Fifty-two per cent of patie

Spinal anesthesia (SA) is frequently used in tropical zones. Intracranial subdural hematoma is an uncommon complication of SA. The purpose of this report was to describe a case of intracranial subdural hematoma observed during SA performed for cesarean section in a 22-year-old women in Senegal. After one month of persistent intense headache, diagnosis was confirmed by computerized tomography. The hematoma was successfully treated by drainage under general anesthesia. Intracranial subdural hematoma has been attributed to cerebrospinal fluid hypotension due to leakage through the dural puncture

A 65-year-old woman presented with chronic spinal subdural hematoma (CSSH) associated with intracranial chronic subdural hematoma (CSH), manifesting as pain in the bilateral buttocks and posterior thighs. She had fallen and struck her lumbar region and occiput while walking 2 weeks previously. Neurological examination on admission demonstrated no paresis of the lower extremities. Brain computed tomography (CT) showed left CSH. Irrigation and drainage were performed the day after admission (3 weeks after injury). The gait disturbance disappeared and the pain of the bilateral buttocks and poster

The authors report a case of subdural haematoma (HSD), which occurred following epidural analgesia for labour, complicated by post dural puncture headache (PDPH). A 26-year-old woman displayed a typical PDPH following epidural anaesthesia. On the sixth day, she was given a blood patch (BP), which was partially efficacious. Because of worsening of the headache, of disappearance of the postural characteristics, and of vomiting without focal neurological signs on the 9th day, a CT-scan was done. The CT-scan showed a small hemispheric subdural haematoma. The recovery was complete with only medical

Subdural hematoma (SDH) was observed in 15 of 484 cases of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). There were four males and 11 females, with ages ranging from 39 to 75 years. The clinical grades (Hunt and Hess) on admission were 11 in three cases, III in two, IV in four, and V in six. The ruptured aneurysms were located in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) in six cases, anterior communicating artery in three, internal carotid artery in two, and distal anterior cerebral artery (ACA) in two, with two cases unconfirmed. A high proportion of aneurysms occurred in the MCA and distal ACA. Aneurysm

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is caused by cerebrospinal fluid leak and has an incidence of approximately five per 100,000 person-years. SIH leads to a range of clinical symptoms, from debilitating postural headaches to subdural hematomas (SDHs). The pathophysiology of the disease is not fully understood, but has garnered interest in recent years. Although CT myelogram and pan-spine MRIs are currently considered the gold standard for diagnosis of SIH, the variable sensitivity (48-76%) and wide range of hematoma size (2-30 mm) warrant further investigation into improved diagnostic

BACKGROUND: Concomitant intracranial chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) are rare, and the etiology has yet to be elucidated. However, migration of the hematoma intracranially to a spinal site or coincidence of both intracranial and spinal CSDHs have been proposed as etiologies. We report a case of concomitant intracranial CSDH and spinal SDH in which spinal hematoma might have migrated from the cranial lesion.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A previously healthy 58-year-old man with previous trauma to the occiput and lumbar spine suffered from headache, lumbago, and left he

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is associated with subdural hematoma in the supratentorial convexities. We report a patient with SIH who had presented to us with subdural hematoma in the posterior fossa. A 50 year old lady presented with history of sudden onset of lower back ache of 4 weeks duration and daily headaches and neck pain for past three weeks. The headache exacerbated on activity, on sitting and standing position and relieved on supine position. There was no history of fever or head trauma. Imaging of the brain revealed hematoma of the tentorium cerebelli, hematoma of the

Myeloid sarcoma, a rare consequence of myeloproliferative disorders, is rarely seen in the central nervous system, most commonly in the pediatric population. Although there are a handful of case reports detailing initial presentation of CNS myeloid sarcoma in the adult population, we have been unable to find any reports of CNS myeloid sarcoma presenting as a large mass lesion in a herniating patient. Here, we present the case of a patient transferred to our facility for a very large subdural hematoma. Based on imaging characteristics, it was felt to be a spontaneous hematoma secondary to coagu

RATIONALE: A spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) is rarely complicated with an intracranial SDH. We found only 7 cases of spontaneous concurrent lumbar spinal and cranial SDHs, in which lumbar symptoms occurred before head symptoms.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We describe a 77-year-old man with spontaneous concurrent spinal and cranial SDHs, in whom the spinal SDH was identified 30 days before the intracranial chronic SDH.
DIAGNOSIS: Magnetic resonance imaging showed a spinal SDH at L4/L5. There was no paralysis, and the patient was managed conservatively. About 30 days after the onset of back pain, he exp

In this case-based review, the authors analyzed relevant literature with an illustrative patient of theirs about subdural hematoma secondary to dural tear at spinal surgery. Intracranial hypotension is a condition of decreased cerebrospinal fluid volume and pressure. Even though intracranial hypotension is temporary and can be managed conservatively, it may progress and result in subdural fluid collections, hematoma formations, "brain sagging or slumping" states, syringohydromyelia, encephalopathy, coma, and even death. The authors present an 81-year-old man admitted with subdural hematoma 50

INTRODUCTION: There is no accepted algorithm for the management of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) caused by spinal CSF leaks in spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH).
RESEARCH QUESTION: This study analyses characteristics of cSDH in SIH to establish a practicable management algorithm.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included all patients with spinal CSF leak closure from April 2018 to April 2024. Demographics, leak type, treatment modalities, as well as cSDH characteristics, prevalence, and risk factors were analyzed.
RESULTS: Among 272 SIH patients, 85 (31 %) c

BACKGROUND: Intracranial involvement in multiple myeloma (MM) is a rare clinical presentation, often mimicking other conditions such as subdural hematoma (SDH) and resulting in poor prognosis.
OBSERVATIONS: This case series highlights 2 older female patients, one with a prior diagnosis of MM, who developed subdural masses resembling SDH. Both cases were associated with significant cerebral edema and mass effect. Biopsies confirmed plasma cell neoplasms, and both patients underwent tailored treatment, including corticosteroids, radiation therapy, and systemic chemotherapy. The patients showed

Cerebral vasospasm is a well-known entity following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. While it has been described in trauma, it has been much less studied. There have been no previous reports of cerebral vasospasm following spontaneous subdural hematoma or after subdural hematoma evacuation. In this case report, we present a 38-year-old otherwise healthy female who suffered an acute spontaneous subdural hematoma. After surgical evacuation of her hematoma, she developed neurologic decline. Computer tomography angiography demonstrated intracranial vasospasm. She was treated with blood pressure
