Vitreous hemorrhage after intracranial hemorrhage.

Eight patients, aged 2 months to 55 years, developed vitreous hemorrhages as a result of subarachnoid or subdural bleeding. Subhyaloid hemorrhages were associated with, or preceded, hemorrhage into the vitreous cavity in four cases. Most vitreous hemorrhages cleared spontaneously, several months later, without major visual sequelae. In one patient, intravitreal blood persisted after 28 months. Vitreous hemorrhage can be a serious complication in patients surviving subarachnoid or subdural hemorrhages and, though uncommon, probably occurs with greater frequency than previously acknowledged. Hemorrhage Expansion After Pediatric Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Significant hemorrhage expansion (sHE) is a known predictor of poor outcome after an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in adults but remains poorly reported in children. In a large inception cohort, we aimed to explore the prevalence of sHE, its associations with clinical outcomes, and its clinical-imaging predictors in children. METHODS: Children admitted between January 2000 and March 2020 at a quaternary care pediatric hospital were screened for inclusion. Sample was restricted to children with 2 computed tomography scans within 72 hours of ICH onset, and a minimal cli

Spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage accompanied with intraventricular hemorrhage.

Spinal hematoma is a rare and usually severe neurological disorder that, without adequate treatment, often leads to death or permanent neurological deficit. Epidural as well as subdural and subarachnoid hematomas have been investigated in some studies. A 66-year-old man referred to our hospital because of acute onset paraplegia and incontinency started 3 h before admission. With impression of spinal hemorrhage, emergent cervicothoracic spinal MRI performed. On magnetic resonance imagination (MRI) mixed hyper/iso intense lesion in anterior subarachnoid space from C7 to T5 was seen. On brain A c

Spontaneous tonsillar hemorrhage and post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage.

Spontaneous tonsillar hemorrhage from infectious causes is extremely rare and post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage, although also relatively rare, is an unavoidable complication of the procedure. Hemorrhage in association with tonsillitis or tonsillectomy is potentially dangerous and can be life threatening. We report here the presentation and management of a 42-yr-old man with severe spontaneous hemorrhage from infected tonsils and post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. We suggest that if attempts to control the bleeding are not successful or if severe spontaneous tonsillar hemorrhage occurs repeatedly or a

Delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage mimicking acute retrobulbar hemorrhage.

The signs and symptoms of an acute retrobulbar hemorrhage include sudden ocular pain, explosive unilateral proptosis, limitation of extraocular movements and loss of vision. Retrobulbar hemorrhage is a well-described complication of retrobulbar anesthetic injection. We report an unusual case of a presumed acute retrobulbar hemorrhage following intraocular surgery which, on further testing, was found to be a delayed suprachoroidal hemorrhage.

Evaluation of intraventricular hemorrhage in pediatric intracerebral hemorrhage.

Previous studies of pediatric intracerebral hemorrhage have investigated isolated intraparenchymal hemorrhage. The authors investigated whether detailed assessment of intraventricular hemorrhage enhanced outcome prediction after intracerebral hemorrhage. They prospectively enrolled 46 children, full-term to 17 years, median age 2.7 years, with spontaneous intraparenchymal hemorrhage and/or intraventricular hemorrhage. Outcome was assessed with the King's Outcome Scale for Childhood Head Injury. Twenty-six (57%) had intraparenchymal hemorrhage, 10 (22%) had pure intraventricular hemorrhage, and

Semiautomated Hemorrhage Volume Quantification in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND: The volume of hemorrhage is a crucial factor in predicting outcomes following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Although grading scales such as the Fisher score are widely used, they can lead to inaccuracies in quantifying the total blood volume because of their reliance on visual assessment. We analyzed a large cohort of patients with aSAH with a semiautomated software for the precise quantification of hemorrhage volume. The primary aim is to identify clear thresholds that correlate with the likelihood of complications after aSAH, thereby enhancing the predictive accuracy

Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVE: This article reviews the most important concepts in primary and secondary prevention of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), with an update on nuances of recovery and rehabilitation in survivors of ICH. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS: We are in the era of population-based risk assessment with neuroimaging and other markers, with distinct goals of primary and secondary ICH prevention and a holistic approach to management strategies. It is important to recognize that ICH survivors are not only at higher risk of ICH recurrence but also of arterial ischemic events. Increasing, although sti

Tumor Hemorrhage.

Bleeding is a common presentation in patients with cancer. Hemorrhage may result from ongoing low-volume oozing, episodic major bleeding, or acute catastrophic bleeding. Resuscitating critically ill patients involves airway management and volume resuscitation with blood products. Bleeding should be immediately controlled with pressure, packing, and local hemostatic agents. Endoscopic or surgical interventions may be required to control persistent bleeding. Emergency medicine providers should prioritize the patient's care goals when making clinical management decisions.

Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND: Compared to ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) has higher mortality and more severe disability. Asian such as Chinese and Japanese and Mexican Americans, Latin Americans, African Americans, Native Americans has higher incidences than do white Americans. So, ICH is an important cerebrovascular disease in Asia. SUMMARY: ICH accounts for approximately 10-20% of all strokes. The incidence of ICH is higher in low- and middle-income than high-income countries and is estimated 8-15% in western countries like USA, UK, and Australia, and 18-24% in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. Postpartum Hemorrhage.

Obstetric hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death in childbirth; it is estimated that one woman dies every four minutes from postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). PPH is the cause of approximately one-quarter of maternal deaths worldwide and is thus a major public health issue of great importance. Despite modern advances in medicine, hemorrhage continues to lead the causes of pregnancy-related death in most countries, with increasing disparity between countries with highly developed and underdeveloped national healthcare systems. Most deaths caused by PPH are preventable. All involved in the

[Intracerebral Hemorrhage].

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICB) causes approximately 12% of all strokes in Germany and 9-27% of all strokes worldwide 1 2. Epidemiological studies show a decrease in younger individuals mainly due to better antihypertensive management, but there is also an increase in incidence in older individuals due to cerebral amyloid angiopathy and increasing use of anticoagulants 3.

[Subarachnoid Hemorrhage].

Intracranial aneurysms or arterial dissections are major causes of subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH). Early surgical or endovascular repair of the bleeding source is crucial because rebleeding mostly occurs within a few days after the initial attack. Radiological examination is an initial step for the appropriate diagnosis of ruptured intracranial aneurysms and arterial dissections. However, misdiagnosis may occur, especially in patients with minor bleeding or multiple aneurysms. In addition to computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, including FLAIR and SWI, and T2*WI are useful for detect
