Physicochemical properties, volatile compounds and basic spherification of hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) kombucha beverage.

Kombucha is a fermented beverage with a slightly acidic taste, flavor, and natural carbonation. It has gained popularity due to its health benefits. Traditional kombucha is prepared by fermentation of black tea and sucrose. Today, kombucha products do not have a standard composition and there is a growing demand. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to produce kombucha with hibiscus and two different sweeteners (apple juice concentrate and sucrose), to examine physicochemical properties, ethanol and vitamin B12 contents, to identify volatiles, and to study its compatibility in spherific

Concurrent analysis of bioactive triterpenes oleanolic acid and β-amyrin in antioxidant active fractions of Hibiscus calyphyllus, Hibiscus deflersii and Hibiscus micranthus grown in Saudi Arabia by applying validated HPTLC method.

In this study, we developed a validated HPTLC method for concurrent analysis of two natural antioxidant triterpenes, oleanolic acid (OA) and β-amyrin (BA) in the biologically active fractions (petroleum ether, toluene, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol) of aerial parts of three Hibiscus species (H. calyphyllus, H. deflersii and H. micranthus). The chromatography was conducted on normal HPTLC (ready to use glass-plate coated with silica gel 60 F254) plate with chloroform and methanol (97:3, V/V) used as mobile phase. The derivatization of the developed plate was done with p-anisaldehyde a

Hibiscus acid and hydroxycitric acid dimethyl esters from Hibiscus flowers induce production of dithiolopyrrolone antibiotics by Streptomyces Strain MBN2-2.

Plants and microbes are closely associated with each other in their ecological niches. Much has been studied about plant-microbe interactions, but little is known about the effect of phytochemicals on microbes at the molecular level. To access the products of cryptic biosynthetic gene clusters in bacteria, we incorporated an organic extract of hibiscus flowers into the culture media of different Actinobacteria isolated from plant rhizospheres. This approach led to the production of broad-spectrum dithiolopyrrolone (DTP) antibiotics, thiolutin (1) and aureothricin (2), by Streptomyces sp. MBN2-

Investigation of the antispasmodic potential of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyces.

Addition of an aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyces (2.5 ml/bath approximately 125 mg of starting crude material) inhibited the tone of various isolated muscle preparations (rabbit aortic strip, rhythmically contracting rat uterus, guinea-pig tracheal chain and rat diaphragm). Other muscles were stimulated (quiescent rat uterus and frog rectus abdominis). Intravenous injection of the extract to anaesthetized cats lowered the blood pressure in a dose-response manner. The inhibitory effects were resistant to a number of standard receptor blockers but the hypotensive influence was parti

Characterisation analysis of bio oil generation using Hibiscus cannabinus seeds.

Bio-oil from Hibiscus cannabinus seeds was extracted with four solvents: acetone, benzene, isopropanol, and hexane. Solvent extraction techniques have less oil residue than other methods. The primary factors that influence the extraction processes such as extraction time, particle size, seed ageing, and solvent suitability were optimised to enhance the bio-oil yield. The extracted bio-oil was tested by GC-MS, FTIR, and 1H-NMR. Physicochemical properties (free fatty acid, specific gravity, acid value, calorific value, saponification number, iodine number, etc.) of hibiscus cannabinus oil were a
