Horticulture Therapy as a Complementary Intervention in Palliative Care: A Narrative Review.

Palliative care is provided to chronically ill patients to offer symptomatic relief from their disease, but it is not a curative treatment. A range of strategies are employed to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life, among which horticultural therapy has emerged as a possible option. Horticultural therapy has been shown to provide diverse benefits, including creating a calming environment that provides comfort and emotional support for palliative care patients. Patients experience symptom relief and perceived pain reduction through engaging activities that distract from discomfort. Th

Horticultural therapy, nutrition and post-traumatic stress disorder in post-military veterans: developing non-pharmaceutical interventions to complement existing therapeutic approaches.

Non-pharmaceutical interventions for veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder are becoming a more popular way to address some of the social and personal needs identified by this group. Horticultural therapy or growing and eating food together provides several ways to increase mood, improve nutritional status, reduce loneliness and reduce the physical health impacts of mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder. In this paper we will discuss some of the issues people living with post-traumatic stress disorder might face. We will also provide an overview of the therapeuti

Comparative effectiveness of horticultural therapy modalities for cognitive function and depressive symptoms in older adults with cognitive impairment: Protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Cognitive impairment in older adults is often accompanied by depressive symptoms, leading to reduced quality of life and increased risk of disability and mortality. Horticultural therapy has been increasingly used as a non-pharmacological intervention; however, its effectiveness may vary across different intervention modalities and delivery characteristics. Existing meta-analyses have primarily focused on overall effects and have not compared different horticultural therapy modalities. This study aims to evaluate and rank the comparative effectiveness of horticultural therapy del

It's Green Gym, but not as we know it: examining the historical roots of voluntary sector provision of social prescribing focusing on gardening on prescription in the UK.

RESEARCH AIMS: This article investigates the historical roots of green prescriptions, which are a form of social prescribing. It seeks to establish when and why they began to be used in Britain to inform practice in the present. CONTEXT: Social prescriptions are a broad range of interventions for patients for whom standard medical treatments may not be effective. Many social prescription programmes are delivered by charities in partnership with the National Health Service. 'Green prescriptions' are a subset of these interventions, and the term now refers specifically to environmental and natu

The effectiveness of nature-based interventions on mental health: A systematic review.

As mental health challenges continue to rise globally alongside increasing urbanization and treatment barriers, nature-based interventions (NBIs) may provide an accessible, affordable, and low-risk alternative to conventional mental health treatments. This systematic review synthesizes quantitative evidence on the impact of NBIs on mental health outcomes, following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Randomized controlled trials with a nature-based intervention group and a non-nature control group, reporting at least one mental health outcome, were included. Of 10,113 identified records, 47 trials met the

Comparing responses to horticultural-based and traditional activities in dementia care programs.

Engaging persons with dementia in meaningful activities supports well-being; however, care staff are challenged to implement age- and ability-appropriate activities in a group setting. We compared a randomly assigned treatment group, who received horticultural therapy-based (HT-based) programming to a comparison group, who engaged in traditional activities (TA) programming, on engagement and affect. Horticultural therapy-based programming was implemented twice weekly at 4 treatment sites for 6 weeks, while regular TA were observed at comparison sites. Results revealed no differences between gr

"Recovering With Nature": A Review of Ecotherapy and Implications for the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Connection with nature has been considered beneficial for psychological well-being since times of evolution. Differences in Indian and Western thoughts have viewed natural elements in different lights, varying between eco-centrism to anthropocentrism. The intrusion of technology and digitalized lives as a result of globalization has decreased connectedness with nature. Ecotherapy is a novel form of psychotherapeutic technique based on explicit environmental or ecological interventions. Social and therapeutic horticulture, animal-assisted interventions, care farming, green exercise, environment
