Underwater Image Enhancement via Intelligent Optimized Multi-Exposure Image Fusion.

Underwater images often suffer from visual degradation due to varying light absorption at different wavelengths and scattering from suspended particles. To tackle these issues, we present an intelligent optimized multi-exposure image fusion method called IMIF. Specifically, we propose an adaptive color transfer strategy that employs a colorless reference image to correct the color distortion issue by transferring the mean and standard deviation of the reference image to adjust a color-balanced image. Subsequently, we introduce a particle swarm optimization algorithm that intelligently selects

Enhancement of colposcopic image by sulphosalicylic acid.

Acetic acid is used conventionally for enhancement of the colposcopic image. We used sulphosalicylic acid instead of acetic acid in 50 normal cases. The normal appearance was enhanced in all cases. The image was also enhanced in 70% cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and 90% cases of cervical condyloma accuminata. The image was not inferior to that with acetic acid in any of the cases.

Fundus Image Enhancement With Pyramid Conditional Flow.

Deep learning-based approaches, which learn pixel-to-pixel mapping from input to output images, have demonstrated exceptional performance in enhancing low-quality fundus images. However, due to the ambiguous definition of the ground-truth high-quality image, the pixel-to-pixel mapping encounters an ill-posed problem arising from the complex one-to-many relationship between low-quality fundus images and their corresponding high-quality versions. To address this problem, this work proposes a PCFlow, the first normalizing flow method that learns the complex distributions of high-quality fundus im

Image Enhancement for Computational Integral Imaging Reconstruction via Four-Dimensional Image Structure.

This paper describes the image enhancement of a computational integral imaging reconstruction method via reconstructing a four-dimensional (4-D) image structure. A computational reconstruction method for high-resolution three-dimensional (3-D) images is highly required in 3-D applications such as 3-D visualization and 3-D object recognition. To improve the visual quality of reconstructed images, we introduce an adjustable parameter to produce a group of 3-D images from a single elemental image array. The adjustable parameter controls overlapping in back projection with a transformation of crop

Texture feature analysis for breast ultrasound image enhancement.

Texture analysis of breast ultrasound B-scans has been widely applied to the segmentation and classification of breast tumors. We present a parametric imaging method based on the texture features to preserve tumor edges and retain the texture information simultaneously. Four texture-feature parameters--homogeneity, contrast, energy and variance--were evaluated using the gray-level co-occurrence matrix. The local texture-feature parameter was assigned as the new pixel located at the center of the sliding window at each position. This process yielded the texture-feature parametric image as the m

Image Enhancement Thanks to Negative Grey Levels in the Logarithmic Image Processing Framework.

The present study deals with image enhancement, which is a very common problem in image processing. This issue has been addressed in multiple works with different methods, most with the sole purpose of improving the perceived quality. Our goal is to propose an approach with a strong physical justification that can model the human visual system. This is why the Logarithmic Image Processing (LIP) framework was chosen. Within this model, initially dedicated to images acquired in transmission, it is possible to introduce the novel concept of negative grey levels, interpreted as light intensifiers.

Feature pyramid serial attention network for underwater image enhancement.

Underwater images often exhibit color distortion and low illumination because of the complex imaging mechanism of the underwater scene. These issues can significantly hinder the performance of underwater vision applications, including object segmentation and detection. To solve these limitations, we propose FPSANet, an innovative feature pyramid serial attention network designed for underwater image enhancement. This framework leverages multiscale feature fusion and an advanced attention mechanism. Initially, we propose a feature pyramid fusion module to integrate spatial information across mu

X-ray image enhancement via determinant based feature selection.

Previous work has investigated the feasibility of using Eigenimage-based enhancement tools to highlight abnormalities on chest X-rays (Butler et al in J Med Imaging Radiat Oncol 52:244-253, 2008). While promising, this approach has been limited by computational restrictions of standard clinical workstations, and uncertainty regarding what constitutes an adequate sample size. This paper suggests an alternative mathematical model to the above referenced singular value decomposition method, which can significantly reduce both the required sample size and the time needed to perform analysis. Spatial-Frequency Learning for Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy Image Enhancement.

Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) enables the observation of atomic arrangements at sub-angstrom resolution and plays a key role in the discovery and characterization of advanced materials. Raw STEM images are often noisy and blurred due to multiple degradations. Although recent deep learning methods improve STEM images, their performance remains limited under severe degradations. In this work, we propose a spatial-frequency learning framework for STEM image enhancement. Specifically, we design a spatial-frequency fusion network that exploits periodic atomic arrangements in the

A hybrid image enhancement based brain MRI images classification technique.

The classification of brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images into normal and abnormal classes, has great potential to reduce the radiologists workload. Statistical analysis based approaches has been widely employed for this purpose which are comprised of four stages such as pre-processing, feature extraction, feature reduction and classification. The outcome of such approaches are highly dependent upon the image quality: better the image, higher the outcome. In this paper, we present a hypothesis that the quality of the image, which is enhanced at the pre-processing stage, can play a si

Facial nerve image enhancement from CBCT using supervised learning technique.

Facial nerve segmentation plays an important role in surgical planning of cochlear implantation. Clinically available CBCT images are used for surgical planning. However, its relatively low resolution renders the identification of the facial nerve difficult. In this work, we present a supervised learning approach to enhance facial nerve image information from CBCT. A supervised learning approach based on multi-output random forest was employed to learn the mapping between CBCT and micro-CT images. Evaluation was performed qualitatively and quantitatively by using the predicted image as input f

Infrared and visible image fusion via visual enhancement and semantic coupling.

Deep learning-based infrared and visible image fusion methods still encounter major challenges in preserving high-level semantic information and comprehensive feature representations. To address this problem, we propose a novel fusion framework that integrates visual enhancement with semantic coupling for infrared and visible image fusion. Specifically, this work introduces a Visible Image Adaptive Enhancement Module (IECA), which adaptively enhances visible images by improving contrast and preserving scene details. The architecture leverages a Dual-Path Feature Fusion Network (DPFFN) to extra

GAN-based underwater image enhancement and scene classification using transfer learning.

This paper provides an exploratory analysis of underwater video analysis techniques to enhance image quality and facilitate accurate classification of different marine species. Our methodology progresses through several steps, beginning with the quality of underwater images that might be reduced by variables such as decreased light intensity, color modification, and limited visibility. These attributes pose significant challenges to develop accurate object detection methods. This paper outlines the processing pipeline employed to enhance the quality of images from underwater videos and facilit

Retinex-based low-light image enhancement with multi-channel feature optimization.

Low-light conditions reduce brightness and contrast, obscure structural details, and amplify noise, which degrades visual quality and adversely affects downstream tasks, such as object detection and segmentation. Despite significant advances in deep learning-based enhancement, existing approaches still struggle to simultaneously balance brightness, detail preservation, and color fidelity. To address this, we propose a two-stage Retinex-based algorithm guided by multi-channel integrated feature optimization. Our main contributions are threefold. (1) We introduce a three-channel illumination dec

Automated Wrist Ultrasound Image Bone Enhancement and Segmentation Using Deep Learning.

Wrist fractures are among the most common upper limb injuries in children and are currently examined by X-rays. Ultrasound imaging offers a radiation-free alternative that can be used for a fast and effective evaluation by assessing the severity of suspected fractures before further referral to X-rays. This project proposes a segmentation framework based on the nnU-Net model to segment bony structures such as the epiphysis and metaphysis commonly seen in wrist ultrasound images. As a preprocessing step, we use an image enhancement technique such as Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalizat

The ethics of enhancement among image and performance enhancing drug coaches.

This research examines image and performance-enhancing drug (IPED) use, specifically focusing on the emerging role of IPED coaches. Situating drug use within broader assemblage theory, we investigated how these coaches, often operating in an online context, function as enabling environments, influencing practices, and contributing to harm reduction in a broader social context within and for IPED communities. Ten IPED coaches were interviewed, with this work focusing on their legal, ethical, and moral considerations, risk assessment, and harm reduction strategies of their practices. We employed

Leveraging Text-Modulated Semantic Guidance for Low-Light Endoscopic Image Enhancement.

Low light conditions in endoscopic imaging would lead to poor visibility, reduced contrast, and increased noise, which may hinder accurate diagnosis and surgical guidance. Against this low-light endoscopic image enhancement (LLEIE) task, inspired by the remarkable performance of pretrained CLIP in downstream vision tasks, in this paper, we carefully investigate the pretrained priors of CLIP and embed them into a text-modulated semantic-aware discriminator (TMSD). Through the adversarial learning mechanism, the discriminator can be easily integrated into different low-light enhancement baseline

TAC-Diff: Texture-Anchored Color Diffusion for Low-Light Image Enhancement.

Low-light image enhancement aims to improve images captured under poor illumination by restoring texture details and correcting color and contrast. While diffusion-based models have demonstrated powerful generative capabilities and significant progress in this task, existing approaches face two empirical challenges. First, operating directly in the RGB color space, where texture information is jointly encoded across channels, may be associated with inadequate modeling of its cross-channel distribution, resulting in insufficient texture restoration. Second, the parameter optimization direction

Optimized wheat seed classification using YOLO with morphological image feature enhancement.

The article presents a superior computer vision system to detect and grade wheat seeds. It is concerned about the integration of deep-learning detection and conventional image processing methods to enhance the overall classification accuracy. The current methods of seed classification in wheat seeds have been found to lack proper visibility of the features particularly in low contrast images, small defects, or overlapping of seeds, and also, irregular lighting situations. The conventional feature extractors are weak, and the deep models by itself fail in cases where the morphological features
