[Adults with mild mental retardation and intelligence tests].

One of the criteria for mild mental retardation is a total level of less than 70 IQ points measured by an intelligence test. The results of intelligence tests are approximate. There are differences in the norms of test versions, and measurement error must be taken into account in individual testing. A total level of 80 measured by adult tests utilized in Finland does not exclude the possibility of mild mental retardation, and a total level of 60 does not confirm it. The test performance should be compared with other measures, such as school and work history, practical functional capacity and p

Role of intelligence tests in speech/language referrals.

This study examined the relation of the WISC-R Verbal IQ with measures of oral and written language among 190 students referred to a private educational clinic over a 5-yr. period. Correlations of Verbal IQ with scores on measures of oral language, written language, receptive language, reading comprehension, and basic reading skills were calculated for the total sample and by Grades 1-3, 4-7, and 8-11. Standard regression coefficients were used to estimate the proportion of variance explained by these five measures. Significant correlations were found for Verbal IQ with the measures, ranging f

Can reading disabilities be diagnosed without using intelligence tests?

Unlike conventional procedures, which use IQ in making diagnostic and eligibility decisions regarding learning disabilities, this demonstration study used listening comprehension and other reading-related tasks to make a differential diagnosis of reading disabilities. Tests of listening and reading comprehension were administered to 180 children from Grades 3 through 8. A regression equation was then derived to predict reading comprehension from listening comprehension. The regression equation was applied to the listening comprehension scores of seven children from Grades 3 to 8 who had readin

Application of Artificial Intelligence in the Interpretation of Pulmonary Function Tests.

Background As per the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma had a significant global burden. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the world and the second leading cause of death and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in India. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are commonly used diagnostic tools. They include spirometry, body plethysmography, and diffusion capacity. In regions with limited resources, pulmonologists often only have access to spirometry. Additionally, PFT pattern interpretation is usually unreliable and subjec

Interpreting intelligence test results for children with disabilities: is global intelligence relevant?

School psychological and neuropsychological evaluations typically include intellectual and other standardized assessment tools in the identification of children with disabilities. The clinical utility of intellectual assessment in the identification and treatment of these children has been repeatedly challenged, with alternatives such as a response to intervention or global intelligence score interpretation offered to replace the long-held tradition of idiographic interpretation of intellectual factors or subtests for the purpose of differential diagnosis and individualized intervention. Optimizing the early-stage of composting process emissions - artificial intelligence primary tests.

Although composting has many advantages in treating organic waste, many problems and challenges are still associated with emissions, like NH3, CO and H2S, as well as greenhouse gases such as CO2. One promising approach to enhancing composting conditions is using novel analytical methods based on artificial intelligence. To predict and optimize the emissions (CO, CO2, H2S, NH3) during the early-stage of composting process machine learning (ML) models were utilized. Data about emissions from laboratory composting with compost's biochar with different incubation (50, 60, 70 °C) and biochar doses

Development and Testing of a Screener for Intelligence and Learning Disabilities (SCIL).

BACKGROUND: Many clients in contact with social services and (mental) health care have mild to borderline intellectual disabilities (MBID). Yet, administering a full intelligence test may not be feasible. METHOD: In 318 adults and 305 juveniles, the scores on 14 questions that comprise the screener for intelligence and learning disabilities (SCIL) were analysed in relation to the IQs of the participants. RESULTS: The SCIL score had good predictive validity for detecting MBID in adults (AUC = 0.93). A cut-off score of 19 or lower is recommended to detect (a suspicion of) MBID. Test-retest rel

Evaluation of adult aphasics with the Pediatric Speech Intelligibility test.

Results of conventional adult speech audiometry may be compromised by the presence of speech/language disorders, such as aphasia. The purpose of this project was to determine the efficacy of the speech intelligibility materials and techniques developed for young children in evaluating central auditory function in aphasic adults. Eight adult aphasics were evaluated with the Pediatric Speech Intelligibility (PSI) test, a picture-pointing approach that was carefully developed to be relatively insensitive to linguistic-cognitive skills and relatively sensitive to auditory-perceptual function.
