Immediate loading as a vehicle for interdisciplinary training in implant placement and restoration.

Recently, implant surgery has been introduced into postdoctoral prosthodontic programs; however, efficient training models to teach this have not been described to date. For training models to be effective and acceptable to all parties, a mutually beneficial situation must be created, and guidelines that can be followed easily need to be described. The purpose of this report is to suggest immediate loading of dental implants as an example for an interdisciplinary training model that integrates both the surgical aspects of implant therapy into the education of prosthodontic graduate students an

An interdisciplinary treatment approach combining orthodontic forced eruption with immediate implant placement to achieve a satisfactory treatment outcome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease often results in severely bony defects around the teeth and leads to eventual extraction. Remaining bone morphology often compromises ideally restoration-driven positions and deteriorates the success rates for dental implants. PURPOSE: The present investigation illustrates the clinical outcome of immediately installing an implant following orthodontic forced eruption and atraumatic extraction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The subject of this study is a 40-year-old Asian female with a right mandibular first molar that had a deep probing depth on the mesial side and mo

Collaborative deep learning model for tooth segmentation and identification using panoramic radiographs.

Panoramic radiographs are an integral part of effective dental treatment planning, supporting dentists in identifying impacted teeth, infections, malignancies, and other dental issues. However, screening for anomalies solely based on a dentist's assessment may result in diagnostic inconsistency, posing difficulties in developing a successful treatment plan. Recent advancements in deep learning-based segmentation and object detection algorithms have enabled the provision of predictable and practical identification to assist in the evaluation of a patient's mineralized oral health, enabling dent

What Have We Learned? Implementation of a Shared Learning Agenda and Access Strategy for the Hormonal Intrauterine Device.

In 2015, a global learning agenda for the hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) was developed with priority research questions regarding use of the method in low- and middle-income countries. In addition, members of the Hormonal IUD Access Group aligned on a strategy to expand access in the context of volunteerism and contraceptive method choice. This article synthesizes evidence generated since then and describes steps taken to address demand- and supply-side barriers to access. Findings demonstrated high continuation rates and satisfaction among hormonal IUD users that are comparable to other l

Perceived positive social interdependence in online versus face-to-face team-based learning styles of collaborative learning: a randomized, controlled, mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Collaborative learning is a group learning approach in which positive social interdependence within a group is key to better learning performance and future attitudes toward team practice. Recent attempts to replace a face-to-face environment with an online one have been developed using information communication technology. However, this raises the concern that online collaborative learning (OCL) may reduce positive social interdependence. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the degree of social interdependence in OCL with face-to-face environments and clarify aspects that affec

Addressing multi-site functional MRI heterogeneity through dual-expert collaborative learning for brain disease identification.

Several studies employ multi-site rs-fMRI data for major depressive disorder (MDD) identification, with a specific site as the to-be-analyzed target domain and other site(s) as the source domain. But they usually suffer from significant inter-site heterogeneity caused by the use of different scanners and/or scanning protocols and fail to build generalizable models that can well adapt to multiple target domains. In this article, we propose a dual-expert fMRI harmonization (DFH) framework for automated MDD diagnosis. Our DFH is designed to simultaneously exploit data from a single labeled source

Collaborative Learning: A Qualitative Study Exploring Factors Contributing to a Successful Tobacco Cessation Train-the-Trainer Program as a Community of Practice.

Individuals with behavioral health conditions account for 50% of annual smoking-related deaths, yet rarely receive tobacco dependence treatment within local mental health authorities (LMHAs). As lack of training and knowledge are key barriers to providing tobacco dependence treatment, Taking Texas Tobacco-Free (TTTF) developed an iterative, 4-6-months train-the-trainer program to embed expertise and delivery of sustained education on tobacco-free workplace policies and practices in participating centers. We explore the employee "champions'" train-the-trainer program experiences using a communi

Joint Localization and Classification of Breast Cancer in B-Mode Ultrasound Imaging via Collaborative Learning With Elastography.

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been successfully applied in the computer-aided ultrasound diagnosis for breast cancer. Up to now, several CNN-based methods have been proposed. However, most of them consider tumor localization and classification as two separate steps, rather than performing them simultaneously. Besides, they suffer from the limited diagnosis information in the B-mode ultrasound (BUS) images. In this study, we develop a novel network ResNet-GAP that incorporates both localization and classification into a unified procedure. To enhance the performance of ResNet-GAP, we

Collaborative learning of graph generation, clustering and classification for brain networks diagnosis.

PURPOSE: Accurate diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) plays a key role in improving the condition and quality of life for patients. In this study, we mainly focus on ASD diagnosis with functional brain networks (FBNs). The major challenge for brain networks modeling is the high dimensional connectivity in brain networks and limited number of subjects, which hinders the classification capability of graph convolutional networks (GCNs). METHOD: To alleviate the influence of the limited data and high dimensional connectivity, we introduce a unified three-stage graph learning framework for

Implementing a Learning Collaborative Framework for States Working to Improve Outcomes for Vulnerable Populations: The Opioid Use Disorder, Maternal Outcomes, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Initiative Learning Community.

The opioid crisis has impacted vulnerable populations, specifically pregnant and postpartum women, and infants prenatally exposed to substances, including infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Lack of access to clinical and social services; potential stigma or discrimination; and lack of resources for provision of services, including screening and treatment, have impacted the health of these populations. In 2018, using a systems change approach, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) convened an Opioid use

Early experience with shared medical appointments for penile problems.

We examined the use of shared medical appointments (SMA) for educating and counseling children with penile problems. Forty-eight families were seen over 4 months with 21 participating in the SMA group and 27 in the traditional group. Using a questionnaire to assess adequacy of education, there was no difference in the overall scores between groups with a mean of 6.64/7 in the SMA and 6.56/7 in the traditional setting. With the increasing demands on providers, an SMA offers a solution to caring for more patients with penile problems in an efficient manner without impacting family education and
