The use of combined estrogen-progestogen oral contraceptives (EP-OC) by lactating women has been associated with suppression of lactation. In the Dominican Republic a study was conducted to identify the main factors associated with the occurrence of induced abortion. The study involved interviews with 350 women admitted in two hospitals with abortion complications, review of their clinical records, and in-depth interviews with 30 of these patients. Recent surveys by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health suggest that 60% of married women desire no more children. Yet only 2% of currently married women and less than 1/2 of 1% of their partners use sterilization.
