Intersectoral Collaboration to Address Loneliness: A Canadian Initiative.

Addressing loneliness is a global public health priority; however, its complexity necessitates collaboration across multiple sectors. Intersectoral collaborations (ISCs) connect diverse stakeholders to take collective action on social issues. In 2022, Women's Age Lab formed an ISC to address loneliness in older adults in Canada, comprising national, provincial and local organizations. The ISC identified stigma, system fragmentation and ineffective solutions as challenges to addressing loneliness. Mapping existing initiatives, advocating for a national strategy and prioritizing research were di

Surveillance Opportunities and the Need for Intersectoral Collaboration on Rabies in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is progressing towards its goal of eliminating human rabies. This goal rests on programs designed to limit canine rabies, which in turn requires a combination of targeted dog rabies control and a better understanding of the movement of the virus between domestic animals, people, and wildlife. Coordinated and integrated surveillance of the disease between human and animal health sectors underpins successful rabies elimination. Our objective was to review surveillance data from 2005 to 2014 to assemble the first multispecies synthesis of rabies information in Sri Lanka and, in doing so

Intersectoral collaboration shaping One Health in the policy agenda: A comparative analysis of Ghana and India.

Intersectoral collaborations are an integral component of the prevention and control of diseases in a complex health system. On the one hand, One Health (OH) is promoting the establishment of intersectoral collaborations for prevention at the human-animal-environment interface. On the other hand, operationalising OH can only be realized through intersectoral collaborations. This work contributes to broadening the knowledge of the process for operationalising OH by analysing the governance structures behind different initiatives that tackle health problems at the human-animal-environment interf

Intersectoral collaboration in the management of non-communicable disease's risk factors in Iran: stakeholders and social network analysis.

INTRODUCTION: As the major cause of premature death worldwide, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are complex and multidimensional, prevention and control of which need global, national, local, and multisectoral collaboration. Governmental stakeholder analysis and social network analysis (SNA) are among the recognized techniques to understand and improve collaboration. Through stakeholder analysis, social network analysis, and identifying the leverage points, we investigated the intersectoral collaboration (ISC) in preventing and controlling NCDs-related risk factors in Iran. METHODS: This is a

Patient experiences of interprofessional collaboration and intersectoral communication in rare disease healthcare in Germany - a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Rare diseases are often complex, chronic and many of them life-shortening. In Germany, healthcare for rare diseases is organized in expert centers for rare diseases. Most patients additionally have regional general practicioners and specialists for basic medical care. Thus, collaboration and information exchange between sectors is highly relevant. Our study focuses on the patient and caregiver perspective on intersectoral and interdisciplinary care between local healthcare professionals (HCPs) and centers for rare diseases in Germany. The aims were (1) to investigate patients' and

Societal actors' perceptions of intersectoral collaboration and the participation of older adults in the development of age-friendly environments.

BACKGROUND: Older adults' participation and intersectoral collaboration are central to the development of age-friendly environments. While previous research has emphasised the importance of these principles, less is known about how they are understood and enacted by societal actors in practice. This creates a need to explore societal actors' perceptions of both intersectoral collaboration and older adults' participation in the development of age-friendly environments. METHOD: The study had a participatory qualitative design. Data were collected through a World Café involving 19 societal actor

Intersectoral collaboration between the medical and veterinary professions in low-resource societies: The role of research and training institutions.

BACKGROUND: Neglected zoonoses continue to significantly affect human health in low-resource countries. A symposium was organised in Antwerp, Belgium, on 5 November 2010 to evaluate how intersectoral collaboration among educational and research institutions could improve the situation. RESULTS: Brucellosis and echinococcosis were presented as models for intersectoral collaboration. Low-resource societies face evident knowledge gaps on disease distribution, transmission within and across species and impact on human and animal health, precluding the development of integrated control strategies.

Intersectoral collaboration in zoonotic disease surveillance and response: A One Health study in the Greater Accra metropolitan area of Ghana.

The One Health (OH) approach is essential for preventing and managing zoonotic diseases through the promotion of intersectoral collaboration. Integrated surveillance systems enhance resource efficiency, support targeted interventions, and provide a comprehensive understanding of disease dynamics. However, operationalizing OH in resource-limited contexts encounters various obstacles due to systemic limitations. This study explores intersectoral collaboration across sectors engaged in zoonotic disease surveillance and response (ZDSR) in Ghana at the district level, identifying key operational ga

Beyond silos: Drivers and barriers to intersectoral collaboration in zoonotic disease surveillance and response in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Ghana.

The One Health approach has gained global traction as a strategy to combat zoonotic diseases, which account for 60-75% of emerging infectious diseases. While effective surveillance requires intersectoral collaboration, challenges such as fragmented systems, resource constraints, and weak coordination hinder efforts, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Ghana. This qualitative study explores the factors influencing collaboration in zoonotic disease surveillance and response at the operational level, providing insights to strengthen intersectoral collaboration and improve public

International multidisciplinary collaboration toward an annotated definition of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita.

Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) has been described and defined in thousands of articles, but the terminology used has been inconsistent in clinical and research communities. A definition of AMC was recently developed using a modified Delphi consensus method involving 25 experts in the field of AMC from 8 countries. Participants included health care professionals, researchers, and individuals with AMC. An annotation of the definition provides more in-depth explanations of the different sentences of the AMC definition and is useful to complement the proposed definition. The aim of this

Behçet's syndrome (BS, synonym: Behçet's disease, or Adamantiades-Behçet's disease, ABD) is classified as a vasculitis of variable vessel size and can manifest itself in both arterial and venous vessels. Its extensive and at the same time interindividually very different clinical picture is not uncommon a challenge, both with regard to the diagnosis of this rheumatic systemic disease, which is rather rare in our latitudes, and its therapeutic options. In addition to the four cardinal symptoms of recurrent oral aphthae, genital aphthae, skin and eye lesions, the clinical picture offers numerous

[Carinal Resections].

Carinal resections are consistently described in the literature as one of the most challenging procedures in thoracic surgery. Depending on the underlying disease and its extent, different resection forms and reconstruction techniques are required. From a surgical point of view, the complex anatomy, and the technique of reconstruction of the central airway are particularly challenging. However, complex airway management and extensive postoperative follow-up demonstrate that these procedures require a multidisciplinary team effort beyond surgical expertise. This article reviews the most importa
