BACKGROUND: Lemierre-like syndrome is a rare septic thrombotic disorder caused by non-Fusobacterium pathogens. Presentations with predominantly intracranial involvement and extensive central venous thrombosis are particularly uncommon, and optimal management remains unclear.
OBSERVATIONS: A 75-year-old female presented with impaired consciousness, fever, and right exophthalmos with conjunctival injection following mild sore throat. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated extensive thrombosis involving the superior vena cava, bilateral internal jugular veins, bilateral transverse-sigmoid sinuses, ca

Intracranial aneurysms uncommonly present with ischemic stroke. Parent artery occlusion due to local extension of the luminal thrombus, aneurysms ejecting emboli to distal arteries, or increased mass effect have been described as possible pathogenic mechanisms. Guidelines for the management of these patients are absent. We present the clinical outcome and radiological characteristics of three patients with spontaneous thrombosis of intracranial aneurysms as a cause of ischemic stroke. This information is relevant given the possible benign history in terms of stroke recurrence and risk of bleed

BACKGROUND: There are few reported cases of intracranial large artery embolism due to carotid thrombosis caused by a neck massager. Herein we report such a case.
CASE SUMMARY: A 49-year-old woman presented with left limb weakness and dysarthria after a history of neck massage for 1 mo. Neurological examination showed left central facial paralysis and left hemiparesis with a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score of 12. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed restricted diffusion on diffusion-weighted imaging in the right parietal and temporal lobes. Computed tomography angiography

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic thrombosis and stenosis are complications associated with the use of neck-remodeling devices in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the technical and anatomic factors that predict short- and long-term stent patency.
METHODS: We undertook a retrospective review of 161 patients who underwent coil embolization of 168 ruptured and unruptured aneurysms assisted by the use of a neck-remodeling device. One hundred twenty-seven patients had catheter-based angiographic follow-up to evaluate 133 stent-coil constructs (mean, 15.4 months; median, 12.7 mon

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the cause and severity of intracranial arterial lesions in extensive cerebral infarction (CI).
METHODS: 78 consecutive autopsy cases were studied. They included 58 cases of CI and 20 cases of other diseases as control. Medium-sized intracranial arteries and their main branches, small intracerebral arteries, and arterioles were examined with light microscopy. Quantitative analysis was made with computer.
RESULTS: CI due to embolism was seen in 33/58 (56.9%) cases, thrombosis in 11/58 (19%), and unknown etiology in 14/58 (24.1%). The mean LA-VA ratios of the medium-si
