The genomes of warm-blooded vertebrates are characterized by a strong heterogeneity in base composition, with GC-rich and GC-poor isochores. Red blood cells (RBCs) are needed for life-saving blood transfusions, but they undergo continuous degradation during storage. We introduce a three-stroke quantum isochoric cycle that functions as a heat engine operating between two thermal reservoirs. Implemented for a particle confined in a one-dimensional infinite potential well, the cycle's performance is benchmarked against the classical three-stroke triangular and isochoric engines. Three closely related thermally dimorphic pathogens are causal agents of major fungal diseases affecting humans in the Americas: blastomycosis, histoplasmosis and paracoccidioidomycosis. A 15 year old patient developed ataxia 2 weeks after an upper respiratory infection. Absent reflexes, external ophthalmoplegia, bilateral ptosis, isochoric mydriasis and week photomotor reflexes (Bell's phenomenon) were noted. We propose two algorithmic quantum Otto refrigerators (AQOR) in which the standard isochoric cooling stroke is replaced by two distinct heat-bath algorithmic cooling (HBAC) protocols based on the partner-pairing algorithm (PPA).
