Silent intruders: Hematolymphoid neoplasms revealed in the jaws: a series of three cases.

The head and neck regions, rich in lymph nodes, are common initial sites for nodal and extranodal hematolymphoid neoplasms, particularly B-cell neoplasms. Lymphomas, including Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's types, range from indolent to aggressive and often affect the oral and maxillofacial areas. Plasma cell neoplasms, such as solitary bone plasmacytoma (SBP) and solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP), must be distinguished from multiple myeloma (MM) due to varied treatment modalities. Diagnosing these neoplasms is challenging, requiring thorough examination. Timely recognition and managemen

Osteonecrosis of the jaw associated with imatinib therapy in myeloproliferative neoplasm: a rare case report.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a relatively infrequent but very well-known adverse effect of bisphosphonates. This rare complication of bisphosphonates is rarest with the use of certain drugs. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), particularly used in renal cell carcinoma or gastrointestinal tumors as a chemotherapeutic agent, can precipitate this particular medical condition of bone when it is associated with either radiation or bisphosphonates, though, monodrug therapy with TKIs rarely causes MRONJ. This article describes a rare case of necrosis of the jawbone in a patie

Lesions of the jaws presenting as radiolucencies on cone-beam CT.

In order to compliment the current interest in lesions affecting the face and jaws in Clinical Radiology, this overview addresses recent developments in the classification, nomenclature, clinical and radiological diagnosis, and outcomes of treatment of the most important and frequent lesions that present as radiolucencies on conventional radiography of the jaws. Although termed "benign" a significant proportion of each odontogenic neoplasm can recur after conservative surgery. Two diagnostic flowcharts take the clinician from the radiological presentation of a lesion in the jaw to an appropria

Myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome involving tumor metastasis. Case report.

This report is an example of tumor metastasis to the temporomandibular joint and its effect on pain, restriction of jaw movement, and the subsequent inability of the patient to function normally. Neoplasm is not the usual etiology of myofascial pain dysfunctionsyndrome and the muscle sparm component of this patient's jaw dysfunction was emphasizedby the relief of symptoms from the use of symptomatic reversible type therapy (tranquilizer, muscle relaxant, and heat). There was an overlay of stress-tension factors in this case history that contributed to the muscle spasm symptoms of the patient.

Biochemical markers as predictors of bone remodelling in dental disorders: a narrative description of literature.

Osteoporosis is a systemic disease in which the skeletal condition is characterized by a decreased mass of normally mineralized bone, due to an augmentation of bone resorption processes. Bone biomarkers serum are used for the diagnosis. On the other hand the main cause of the resorption in the bone jaws are periodontitis, inflammatory cysts, developmental cysts, odontogenic neoplasms. Periodontal diseases can be localized to a single site of the jaws or can affect all the teeth, with a massive bone resorption. The cysts are classified in developmental and inflammatory. They caused a local bone

Clear cell odontogenic tumor--a new histologic variant with aggressive potential.

This report delineates the clinical and laboratory findings for a previously unreported neoplasm of putative odontogenic origin. We describe the clinical, radiographic, operative, histologic, histochemical, and ultrastructural findings of the tumor in three women. All lesions were centrally located in the jaw bones, were expansile, and, except for mobile teeth and/or jaw enlargement, exhibited few symptoms. Radiographically, there was bone and tooth destruction resulting in poorly delineated margins. Microscopically, the tumors were nearly identical in that they consisted primarily of large sh

Osteosarcoma of the mandible: A case report with an early radiographic manifestation.

Osteosarcoma is a classical malignant bone-forming neoplasm which usually presents with an aggressive clinical course. The current case is presented with the radiographic feature of widening of the periodontal ligament space of the involved teeth, which is considered to be the earliest radiographic manifestation of osteosarcoma involving the jaw bone. The main aim of this case report was to focus on the importance of early diagnosis of this tumor based on clinical and radiographic examinations, and confirmation by histopathology. Considering the rarity of the disease type and particularly taki

Hemangioendothelioma - A Case Report.

Vascular neoplasms are a complex group of tumours, which can be benign, malignant, or reactive. Haemangioendothelioma is a vascular neoplasm of intermediate grade which is a borderline neoplasm. We present a case of 67-year-old male with a swelling in the left lower jaw of 1 year duration. Based on clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings, a diagnosis of haemangioendothelioma was made. The various vascular neoplasms with emphasis on haemangioendothelioma are discussed in detail.

Hyperparathyroidism-Jaw Tumor Syndrome: A Case Diagnosed After the Removal of Multiple Ossifying Fibromas of the Jaws.

Hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome (HPT-JT) is a hereditary neoplastic disorder caused by a pathogenic variant in the CDC73 tumor suppressor gene. It is characterized by increased values of PTH, ossifying fibromas of the jaws, and in some cases neoplasms of the kidneys/or the uterus. We present a case of a 65-year-old male who had several jaw tumors with secondary infection requiring treatment. Previous medical history included parathyroid adenomas with a long history of increased PTH and kidney tumor. This prompted genetic testing, which confirmed a heterozygous CDC73 pathogenic variant,

Sporadic Burkitt lymphoma of the jaw: case report and review of the literature.

Sporadic Burkitt lymphoma of the jaw is a rare neoplasm with an exceedingly fast doubling rate. This article presents a case of sporadic Burkitt lymphoma initially managed as an odontogenic infection. The early radiographic features and histologic criteria are discussed. Burkitt lymphoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any rapidly expanding or swelling jaw masses in young patients.

Biological pathways involved in the aggressive behavior of the keratocystic odontogenic tumor and possible implications for molecular oriented treatment - an overview.

In the classification of Head and Neck Tumors, published in 2005 by the World Health Organization Classification, the odontogenic keratocyst has been reclassified as a benign intraosseous neoplasm, calling it "keratocystic odontogenic tumor" (KCOT). Significant differences on the molecular level between KCOT and other odontogenic cystic lesions suggest a different biological origin. Genetic and molecular research regarding odontogenic tumors, and KCOTs in particular, has led to an increasing amount of knowledge and understanding of their physiopathological pathways. A review of the biological

Hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome: a report of three large kindred.

BACKGROUND: Hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome (HPT-JT) is a rare autosomal disease caused by inactivating germ-line mutations of HRPT2 gene, with subsequent loss of Parafibromin expression. It is characterized by familial HPT, ossifying jaw tumors, and other associated neoplasms. METHODS: Clinical, histopathological, and genetic features of three large Italian unrelated HPT-JT kindred were assessed. RESULTS: Three different germ-line HRPT2 inactivating mutations were identified. Seventeen affected members and six healthy mutation carriers were found. HPT was diagnosed in virtually all a

Mice deleted for cell division cycle 73 gene develop parathyroid and uterine tumours: model for the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour syndrome.

The hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour (HPT-JT) syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by occurrence of parathyroid tumours, often atypical adenomas and carcinomas, ossifying jaw fibromas, renal tumours and uterine benign and malignant neoplasms. HPT-JT is caused by mutations of the cell division cycle 73 (CDC73) gene, located on chromosome 1q31.2 and encodes a 531 amino acid protein, parafibromin. To facilitate in vivo studies of Cdc73 in tumourigenesis we generated conventional (Cdc73+/-) and conditional parathyroid-specific (Cdc73+/L/PTH-Cre and Cdc73L/L/PTH-Cre) mouse models.
