[A bleeding jejunal schwannoma. The complications of a rare neoplasm of the small intestine].

The authors report a rare case of jejunal Schwannoma which appeared as hematemesis and melaena. No preoperative test, even selective angiography, enabled a correct clinical diagnosis to be made. Only after explorative laparotomy and careful palpation of the small intestine was the bleeding lesion located. Resection and termino-terminal anastomosis were then performed. The preparation of immunohistochemical reactions now allow forms which were previously diagnosed in different terms to be precisely classified.

Adenocarcinoma with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm arising in jejunal heterotopic pancreas.

A 74-year-old man suffered from jejunal perforation and adhesion to sigmoid colon due to adenocarcinoma associated with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) arising in a jejunal heterotopic pancreas. The jejunal lesion showed direct extension to the sigmoid colon, which was mistaken as sigmoid colon cancer by surgeons. Malignant transformation is a rare complication of a heterotopic pancreas. About half of malignancies in reported cases were ductal adenocarcinoma arising in the stomach, and the jejunal location is extremely rare. Furthermore, IPMN is also uncommon finding in a hetero

How to Manage Small Intestine (Jejunal and Ileal) Neuroendocrine Neoplasms Presenting with Liver Metastases?

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Small intestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (siNENs) are slowly growing tumours with a low malignant potential. However, more than half of the patients present with distant metastases (stage IV) and nearly all with locoregional lymph node (LN) metastases at the time of surgery. The value of locoregional treatment is discussed controversially. RECENT FINDINGS: In stage I to III disease, locoregional surgery was currently shown to be curative prolonging survival. In stage IV disease, surgery may prolong survival in selected patients with the chance to cure locoregional disease

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm originating from a jejunal heterotopic pancreas: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a rare pancreatic tumor and has the potential to become malignant. Surgery is the most effective treatment at present, but there is no consensus on the site of resection. Heterotopic pancreas occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, especially the stomach and duodenum but is asymptomatic and rare. We report a case of ectopic pancreas with IPMN located in the jejunum. CASE SUMMARY: A 56-year-old male patient suffered from severe pain, nausea and vomiting due to a traffic accident and sought emergency treatment at our hospital. Contrast

A giant jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumor misconceived as pancreatic cystic neoplasm: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), although not common in gastrointestinal (GI) tumors, constitute the most frequent mesenchymal tumors of the GI tract. This report describes a patient with a large sporadic GIST at proximal jejunum that mimicked the pancreatic cystic neoplasm. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 59-year-old female patient with unexplained weight loss and palpable left upper quadrant abdominal mass for 6 months. Computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a heterogeneously mass measuring 10 cm in a maximal diameter at pancreatic body and tail. Laparotomy was done

Cystic jejunal duplication with Heinrich's type I ectopic pancreas, incidentally discovered in a patient with pancreatic tail neoplasm.

The aim of this study was to present a case of enteric duplication cyst and criteria for a proper differential diagnosis. A 51-year-old male was hospitalized for pancreatic tail neoplasm and distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy was performed. During surgery, a jejunal cystic lesion was incidentally detected and jejunectomy was performed. Microscopically, the cyst was observed to be covered by Keratin 7/Keratin 20 positive intestinal type epithelium and the muscularis layer was shared by the cyst and adjacent jejunum, without a cleavage plane between the cyst wall and jejunal muscularis propr

Intraductal oncocytic papillary neoplasm of the pancreas with celiac artery compression syndrome and a jejunal artery aneurysm: report of a case.

A 79-year-old woman presented with epigastralgia, and computed tomography showed a 3-cm multiloculated mass with a mural nodule in the head of the pancreas. Arteriography showed stenosis of the celiac artery and a saccular aneurysm, arising from the first jejunal artery. We made a preoperative diagnosis of intraductal papillary adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic head and performed a laparotomy. Transection of the median arcuate ligament failed to restore adequate hepatic blood flow, necessitating construction of celiac vascularization, achieved by a gastroduodenal to jejunal artery anastomosis.

Ulceration as a possible link between duodenogastric reflux and neoplasms in the stomach of rats.

BACKGROUND: Duodenogastric reflux predisposes to gastric cancer. This study investigates whether ulceration induced by duodenogastric reflux is associated with the development of neoplasms in the stomach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a rat experiment, duodenal fluid was directed into the corpus (jejunal reflux) or through the pylorus into the antrum (pyloric reflux). Sham-operated animals served as controls. The animals were sacrificed after 24, 36, or 52 weeks. RESULTS: Ulcerations and neoplasms occurred more frequently in the corpus than in the antrum. In the corpus, ulceration was observed s

Synchronous intestinal tumors: aggressive jejunal carcinoid and sigmoid malignant polyp.

Association of aggressive jejunal carcinoid tumors and other primary gastrointestinal neoplasms are rarely observed. We describe the case of a synchronous jejunal carcinoid tumor and two colorectal polyps in a 78-year old woman. Surgical intervention was performed for the colorectal tumors and the carcinoid was incidentally found. It was well differentiated but was accompanied by lymph node metastasis and peritoneal carcinomatosis. In this case, the prognosis was not depending by the colorectal tumors but the aggressive feature of jejunal carcinoid lead to patient's death.

An atypical case of jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumour presenting as chronic anaemia.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms, most commonly arising in the stomach or small intestine. Jejunal GISTs are rare and may pose diagnostic challenges. We report a 44-year-old woman with a 3-year history of chronic unexplained iron deficiency anaemia and negative endoscopy. Computed tomography angiography suggested a jejunal lesion. Laparoscopy identified a well-circumscribed jejunal mass, which was resected. Histopathology confirmed a low-risk GIST. This case highlights the importance of considering small bowel pathology in persistent anaemia and the role

A rare case of jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) are rare neoplasms of the gastrointestinal(GI) system originating from the mesenchyme. GISTs mostly develop in the stomach and small intestine. We present here a case of jejunal GIST which is the rarest subtype. A 54-year-old man presented with lower right side abdominal pain. On workup, images showed a 7cm solid-cycstic lesion adjacent to ascending colon. On surgical exploration, a large jejunal tumor en bloc resected and jejuno-jejunal primary anastomosis was performed. Pathologic results showed a 9cm jejunal GIST with 5% proliferation index. Immunohist

Unusual presentation of jejunal carcinoid tumor with intussusception and vertebral metastasis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Jejunal carcinoid tumors are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms that often present with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, resulting in delayed diagnosis. Intussusception is an uncommon complication in adults, and skeletal metastases at initial presentation are exceedingly rare. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a jejunal carcinoid tumor presenting simultaneously with jejuno-jejunal intussusception and skeletal metastases involving the axial skeleton. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old man presented with one week of recurrent colicky abdominal pain, bilious vomiting, and

[Laryngopharyngectomy and free jejunal graft reconstruction in the treatment of hypopharyngeal tumors].

The authors performed a total laryngopharyngectomy due to a hypopharyngeal neoplasm. The continuity of the alimentary tract was restored by the insertion of a vascularized free jejunal graft, using microsurgical technique. On the occasion of this case the authors give a survey of the therapeutical methods used in the therapy of hypopharyngeal tumors, of the indications of the free jejunal transplant and of the technical issues and complications of this procedure.

[Jejunal carcinoma: apropos 8 cases].

The tumors of the small bowel are uncommon. About one-third are jejunal, for the most part adenocarcinomata. From 1976 to 1994 we operated on 8 patients affected by jejunal adenocarcinoma, mean age 59 years (+/- 15.2), range 37-78, which are 0.33% of all the malignant epithelial neoplasms of the digestive tract, treated in the same period. In six cases the diagnosis was preoperative, by x-ray or instrumental investigations. In the other two patients the neoplasm was found intraoperatively. Only five operations were curative. In six cases the neoplasm invaded the serosa and, in three, also the

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the duodenum, ampullary region, jejunum and ileum.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the small intestine are some of the most frequently occurring along the gastrointestinal tract, even though their incidence is extremely variable according to specific sites. Jejunal-ileal neuroendocrine neoplasms account for about 27% of gastrointestinal NETs making them the second most frequent NET type. The aim of this review is to classify all tumors following the WHO 2019 classification and to describe their pathologic differences and peculiarities.

High-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of ovary presenting as peritonitis.

Primary ovarian lymphoma is rare, with ovary more commonly involved secondarily in generalized disease. Primary ovarian lymphoma presents as mass in the ovary with chronic symptoms; an acute presentation has not been described previously. A 75-year-old female presented with acute abdomen and features of peritonism. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated large mass in left ovary along with infiltration of adjacent sigmoid colon causing perforation and pneumoperitoneum. Few jejunal loops were also involved. Intraoperatively, there was left ovarian mass infiltrating the s

Jejunal conduit urinary diversion.

The clinical course of 14 patients undergoing jejunal conduit urinary diversion between 1971 and 1985 is reviewed. Indications for use of jejunum rather than ileum or colon for diversion included radiation changes of the ileum, concurrent colonic neoplasms or injury, concerns about collateral blood supply of the colon and multiple adhesions. There were 2 operative deaths. Followup in the remaining 12 patients was 1 to 116 months (mean 34 months). All of the patients had satisfactory postoperative renal function. Eight patients (67 per cent) experienced a total of 13 complications. Only 3 patie

[Total esophagoplasty using a double pedicled free graft from the jejunum: the last resort].

After repeated failures of classic oesophagoplasties (gastroplasty and coloplasty) a last chance reconstruction could rely on a free jejunal transplant. We report an exceptional and original case where digestive tract was re-established between the orostoma and the epigastric antrum. The patient has four neoplasms in the throat, thoracic oesophagus. After circular pharyngolarynectomy and total oesophagectomy, all the usable vascularized plasties had necrosed.
