Here, we report on the analysis of keratin 18 null mice. Unlike the ablation of K8, which together with K18 is expressed in embryonic and simple adult epithelia, K18 null mice are viable, fertile, and show a normal lifespan. Human testicular germ cell tumors were studied immunohistochemically with the monoclonal antibody to the 54-kd keratin polypeptide (keratin 7) to determine whether this antibody could be used selectively to identify trophoblastic cells. We report a unique case of a post-menopausal female who presented with a lesion on the areola. A biopsy of the lesion demonstrated a pagetoid intraepithelial neoplasm suggesting a differential diagnosis of mammary Paget disease and pagetoid Bowen disease. Excision of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of mammary Paget disease with typical histological appearance. This case is extremely rare since both keratin 7 and ERBB2 were negative, and there was no evidence of underlying in situ or invasive carcinoma.

A predictive marker of the rapid progression to hepatic failure is desired for patients with asymptomatic primary biliary cirrhosis (aPBC). We performed a systematic cohort analysis of 101 patients diagnosed as having aPBC and the rapid progression to liver failure in some, by focusing on cholestasis. For hepatic venous outflow obstruction, alcoholic liver injury, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the term "centrizonal injury disease" (CID) is used, because injury patterns in all three entities are similar.
