Impact of a Community-Based Pelvic Floor Kinesic Rehabilitation Program on the Quality of Life of Chilean Adult Women with Urinary Incontinence.

UNLABELLED: The pelvic floor forms the primary bottom tissue of the pelvic cavity. It comprises muscles that play a fundamental role in bowel and bladder emptying. Alterations of pelvic floor muscles will result in dysfunctions such as urinary incontinence (UI). Given the high prevalence of UI and its impact on the quality of life (QoL) in patients with pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions, it is necessary to implement public, community, and generalized programs focused on treating these dysfunctions. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of a community rehabilitation program on QoL, UI severity, an

Body language signals for rodent social communication.

Integration of social cues to initiate adaptive emotional and behavioral responses is a fundamental aspect of animal and human behavior. In humans, social communication includes prominent nonverbal components, such as social touch, gestures and facial expressions. Comparative studies investigating the neural basis of social communication in rodents has historically been centered on olfactory signals and vocalizations, with relatively less focus on non-verbal social cues. Here, we outline two exciting research directions: First, we will review recent observations pointing to a role of social fa

How to become an authentic speaker. Even sincere speeches often come across as contrived. A four-step process will help you create a true emotional connection with your audience.

Like the best-laid schemes of mice and men, the best-rehearsed speeches go oft astray. No amount of preparation can counter an audience's perception that the speaker is calculating or insincere. Why do so many managers have trouble communicating authenticity to their listeners? Morgan, a communications coach for more than two decades, offers advice for overcoming this difficulty. Recent brain research shows that natural, unstudied gestures--what Morgan calls the " second conversation"--express emotions or impulses a split second before our thought processes have turned them into words. So the

Three studies of deficits in pantomimic expression and pantomimic recognition in aphasia.

Studies were conducted to investigate aphasic deficits in pantomimic behaviors. Three groups of subjects were used: 47 aphasics; 27 right-hemisphere-damaged; and 11 controls. Study I replicates a previous study of pantomimic recognition deficits (Duffy, Duffy, & Pearson, 1975) and essentially duplicates the previous findings of significant deficits of pantomimic recognition in aphasic subjects that are highly correlated with their verbal deficits. Study II examines the relationship between deficits in pantomimic recognition and expression; and the relationships between these two nonverbal beha

Multimodal immersion in English language learning in higher education: A systematic review.

The development of multimodality has led to increased research on its use to improve students' English language competency. However, no recent review has analyzed multimodality in English language learning in higher education. This systematic review examines 34 research articles published from 2013 to 2024. The primary focus of the study is to explore the application of multimodal pedagogies in higher education, the methods and materials used to assist learners in acquiring English language skills, the English language skills acquired through the usage of multimodality, and the main results of

CNN-LSTM Hybrid Real-Time IoT-Based Cognitive Approaches for ISLR with WebRTC: Auditory Impaired Assistive Technology.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

In the era of modern technology, people may readily communicate through facial expressions, body language, and other means. As the use of the Internet evolves, it may be a boon to the medical fields. Recently, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has provided a broader platform to handle difficulties linked to healthcare, including people's listening and hearing impairment. Although there are many translators that exist to help people of various linguistic backgrounds communicate more effectively. Using kinesics linguistics, one may assess or comprehend the communications of auditory and hear

Recognition of emotional body language from dyadic and monadic point-light displays in 5-year-old children and adults.

Most child studies on emotion perception used faces and speech as emotion stimuli, but little is known about children's perception of emotions conveyed by body movements, that is, emotional body language (EBL). This study aimed to investigate whether processing advantages for positive emotions in children and negative emotions in adults found in studies on emotional face and term perception also occur in EBL perception. We also aimed to uncover which specific movement features of EBL contribute to emotion perception from interactive dyads compared with noninteractive monads in children and adu

How the Brunswikian Lens Model Illustrates the Relationship Between Physiological and Behavioral Signals and Psychological Emotional and Cognitive States.

Social relationships are constructed by and through the relational communication that people exchange. Relational messages are implicit nonverbal and verbal messages that signal how people regard one another and define their interpersonal relationships-equal or unequal, affectionate or hostile, inclusive or exclusive, similar or dissimilar, and so forth. Such signals can be measured automatically by the latest machine learning software tools and combined into meaningful factors that represent the socioemotional expressions that constitute relational messages between people. Relational messages

Homologizing primate facial displays: a critical review of methods.

The applicability of previously established criteria for identifying homologous behavioural traits to the ritualized facial displays of primates is discussed and illustrated with several examples. (1) Homologizing of facial displays is based on (a) their stereotypy, (b) their nature as compounds of individual facial actions, and--to a lesser extent--(c) the homology of the muscle substrate by which the displays are accomplished. (2) Sequences of gradually changing displays ('Merkmalsreihen') can be constructed by considering related extant species, different ontogenetic stages, and variation a

Imitating gestures. A quantitative approach to ideomotor apraxia.

The ability to carry out movements on imitation was assessed with a 24-item test in uniterally hemisphere-damaged patients. On the basis of a cutoff score derived from the performances of 100 control patients, 20% of the right brain-damaged patients were calssified as apraxic. Most right brain-damaged patients were only mildly defective, but a few showed a striking impairment. In left brain-damaged patients apraxia was not only more frequent, but also much more severe and was nearly always associated with aphasia. However, the correlation between the motor and the language disorder was not par

Postural control in healthy individuals.

BACKGROUND: The aim of rehabilitation is to optimize functional recovery and frequently following injury, the uninjured limb is used as measure to compare with the injured limb. This assumes that symmetry existed prior to the injury. The aim of this study was to examine postural control in a healthy sample to ascertain if differences exist between the functionally dominant compared to non-dominant limbs. METHODS: Following ethical approval, 20 healthy active subjects (10 males and 10 females) mean age (SE) of 27.2 (1.4) years, with no previous history of lower-limb injury or pathology volunte

Lower extremity preference during gross and fine motor skills performed in sitting and standing postures.

The evaluation of lower limb preference in physical therapy practice is critical in order for the clinician to assist patients with functional retraining tasks. No studies in the physical therapy literature present a systematic approach to determine the criteria needed to identify the preferred limb. This research was designed to present a series of tests for effectiveness in determining limb preference. The purpose of this study was to determine whether lower limb preference existed in a group of recreationally athletic women when performing either stability or dynamic skills with the lower e

Prediction of postural sway velocity by foot posture index, foot size and plantar pressure values in unilateral stance.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to assess whether the plantar pressure, the foot posture index (FPI) and foot size can predict the postural sway velocity in terms of postural stability in unilateral stance. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 236 feet of 118 participants (62 males, 56 females; mean age 22.1±3.1 years; range 18 to 36 years) were enrolled. The feet were classified as prone, normal and supine based on the FPI. Postural sway velocity during unilateral stance with eye open (US-EO) and eye closed (US-EC) condition was measured using the Balance Master. Plantar pressure for each foot was m

[Evolutive stages of the iliac compression syndrome (Cockett's syndrome) (author's transl)].

The term of Cockett's syndrome stands for a lower limb dysfunction with venous stasis originating from the left common iliac compression by the right common iliac artery at the pelvis inlet level. For the authors, there are three evolutive stages. First stage: a simple compression without any anatomic venous parietal lesion. Second stage: to the previous, are added left common iliac vein lesions consisting of an inner vascular band formation. This must be surgically treated to remove the obstacle. Third stage: the final evolution: the ilio-femorale thrombosis. Therefore, the diagnosis must be
