Kinesiophobia in migraine.

UNLABELLED: Pain aggravation by movement and avoidance of movement (kinesiophobia) is often reported by patients during migraine attacks. Yet its specific contribution to migraine diagnosis is undetermined. To characterize the frequency and severity of kinesiophobia during migraine and its role in the diagnosis of primary headaches, we questioned 150 patients (126 women and 24 men, average age 38.5 yrs) with migraine (n = 111) or tension-type headache (TTH) (n = 39) about aggravation of pain by bending forward, brisk head movements (jolt), and avoidance of movement during the attacks. The degr

Ankylosing spondylitis and kinesiophobia.

BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic rheumatic disease that predominantly affects the axial skeleton, causing pain and functional impairment. Kinesiophobia, or fear of movement, is common in patients with chronic pain conditions and can significantly hinder treatment outcomes. This study aims to assess the level of kinesiophobia in AS patients and explore its relationship with demographic characteristics, disease duration, pain intensity, disease activity, and functional impairment. METHODS: This single-center study included 35 AS patients from July 2021 to July 2023. Patient

Kinesiophobia Is Associated with Migraine.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess kinesiophobia in patients with migraine and to determine its association and correlation with cutaneous allodynia and clinical manifestations of migraine. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. SETTING: A headache clinic of a university-based hospital. SUBJECTS: Eighty-nine patients diagnosed with migraine by a neurologist specialized in headache. METHODS: Patients completed the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the 12-item Allodynia Symptom Checklist (ASC-12) and described the frequency, duration, and intensity of migraine attacks, as well as

Does 'mental kinesiophobia' exist?

In this study the relevance of the concept of mental kinesiophobia (respectively cogniphobia or fear of mental exertion) for clients with chronic stress problems was explored. It was hypothesized that cognitive, chronic stress complaints, such as concentration problems or decreased problem solving abilities, could be catastrophized as signs of heightened personal vulnerability, with a chance of becoming permanent. As a consequence, mental exertion is avoided. This line of reasoning comes from the existing concept of kinesiophobia. This concept describes the avoidance behavior in chronic benign

[Kinesiophobia in shoulder disorders : Validation of the German version of the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK-GV)].

BACKGROUND: With a prevalence of 7-30%, shoulder disorders form the third largest group of musculoskeletal complaints. Their formation and development is influenced by, e.g. psychological factors. The Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) is the most common measure for quantifying fear of movement. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the reliability and validity of the German version of the TSK (TSK-GV) in a shoulder pain population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Subjects with shoulder pain were included in a multicenter cross-sectional study. In addition to kinesiophobia, pain intensity, subjective impairmen

Multiple diagnoses, increased kinesiophobia? - Patients with high kinesiophobia levels showed a greater number of temporomandibular disorder diagnoses.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to empirically derive subgroups according to pain-related fear of movement beliefs using cluster analysis within a sample of TMD patients and asymptomatic volunteers. METHODS: 129 volunteers participated in this cross-sectional study (34.78, standard deviation [SD]: 12.49 years; 92 TMD patients and 37 symptom-free volunteers). Mechanical pain sensitivity through pressure pain threshold (PPT) on orofacial and remote sites, kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, anxiety and depression were assessed. A cluster analysis was used to derive subgroups according to

Kinesiophobia and Pain Intensity Are Increased by a Greater Hallux Valgus Deformity Degree- Kinesiophobia and Pain Intensity in Hallux Valgus.

BACKGROUND: Hallux valgus (HV) has been previously associated with psychological disorders. Thus, the purposes of this study were to associate kinesiophobia and pain intensity with HV deformity degrees, as well as predict kinesiophobia and pain intensity based on HV deformity and demographic features. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out recruiting 100 subjects, who were divided into HV deformity degrees, such as I-no HV (n = 25), II-mild (n = 25), III-moderate (n = 25), and IV-severe (n = 25) HV. The effect of visual stimulation on kinesiophobia level and functional outcomes after total knee arthroplasty in patients with high kinesiophobia.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the video of full flexion-extension movement of the operated knee on kinesiophobia level and functional results in the postoperative rehabilitation period in patients with high level of kinesiophobia who underwent total knee prosthesis surgery. For this purpose sixty patients with a preoperative Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale score above 39.5 and who underwent total knee replacement were included in this prospective study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups based on whether the video of their knee motion was captured. All patient

This study aimed to enhance the understanding of kinesiophobia in patients with HF by analysing associations with the following variables: musculoskeletal pain, quality of life, quality of sleep, functional capacity, disability, frailty, sex, and age. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this cross-sectional study, 107 participants were included, with ages ranging from 28 to 97 years (57% men, mean age 73.18 ± 12.68 years). Multiple regression analyses were performed with all vari

[Does patient communication influence kinesiophobia? A systematic review].

The aim of the present systematic review was to determine the effect of communication in the health care setting on kinesiophobia. To this end, a literature search was conducted in seven databases between November 2022 and February 2023. The review was carried out following the PRISMA statement and for the analysis of methodological quality we used: PEDro Scale, Van Tulder criteria and risk of bias analysis of the Cochrane Collaboration. A total of 13 articles were included with a mean methodological quality of 7.1 out of 10. Significant results were obtained for at least one variable (kinesio

Kinesiophobia and Associated Factors in Patients With Myocardial Infarction.

Kinesiophobia is a well-known barrier to positive clinical outcomes among patients with various diseases, but there remain few comprehensive studies of kinesiophobia among patients with myocardial infarction (MI). In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the presence of kinesiophobia and its relationship with clinical outcomes among 42 patients with MI who completed the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia Swedish Version for Heart (TSK-SV Heart) the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD

Kinesiophobia among health professionals' interventions: a scoping review.

Health professionals are regularly confronted with patients suffering from a fear of movement-related pain (unknown as kinesiophobia). The fear-avoidance attitudes and beliefs of healthcare professionals are likely to play a key role in their patients' therapeutic approach. However, kinesiophobia among health professionals is a relatively young topic. This scoping review aims to explore and catalogue the extent of scientific research that identifies the causes and consequences of kinesiophobia among health professionals while they perform their interventions. The review was based on the Joanna
