This study evaluated the effects of bacterial lysates derived from Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and L. reuteri on oral wound healing in a rat model. Forty-eight female Wistar rats were randomly assigned to four groups: PBS (group A), L. rhamnosus lysate (group B), L. reuteri lysate (group C), and a combination of both (group D). Full-thickness 1×1 mm wounds were created on the buccal mucosa, and treatments (50 μg/mL) were applied topically every other day. Wound healing was assessed on days 3, 7, 14, and 21 through macroscopic evaluation, histological analysis (H&E staining), and measurement o

Idiopathic male infertility is characterized by increased mortality or reduced motility and vitality of sperm. There are several reports on probiotics in the male reproductive tract, but the effects of these probiotics on sperm motility remain to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the impact and mechanism of probiotics on the vitality and motility of mouse sperm. We collected mature sperm from the caudal vas deferens of mice and prepared three probiotics donated by HEM Pharma Inc.: Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, Limosilactobacillus fermentum, and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei. We anal

A variety of foods fermented with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) serve as dietary staples in many countries. The incorporation of health-promoting probiotics into fermented milk products can have profound effects on human health. Considering the health benefits of Yakult, the current study was undertaken to develop an enriched Yakult-like fermented skimmed milk drink by the addition of two probiotic strains, namely Lacticaseibacillus casei (Lc) and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus (Lr). The prepared drinks were compared in terms of various parameters, including their physicochemical properties, proxim

Probiotics provide health benefits in various aspects and are believed to modulate the immune system by balancing gut microbiota homeostasis, termed the "microbiota-immune axis". Recent evidence supports that several Lactobacillus strains possess glucose-lowering and anti-inflammatory effects in an animal model of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Although probiotics of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei SD1 (SD1) and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus SD11 (SD11) exert human oral health benefits by reducing harmful bacterial populations, their clinical application regarding hypoglycemic-related traits as well as th

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by immune dysregulation. Meanwhile, the supernatant of lactic acid bacteria (SL) was recently reported to have anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, HaCaT keratinocytes stimulated by tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) are widely used for studying AD-like responses. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects of SL from lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced HaCaT keratinocytes, and then we investigated the strains' probiotic properties. SL was noncytotoxic and regulated chem

Probiotics play a crucial role in promoting host health by modulating the composition of the gut microbiota through the production of their own bioactive metabolites. The aim of the study was to investigate the anti-atrophic effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei EFEL6501 (EFEL6501) in dexamethasone (DEX)-treated C2C12 myotubes and a mouse model. In vitro experiments demonstrated that specific bioactive metabolites present in the cell culture supernatant (CS) and lysate supernatant (LS) of EFEL6501 alleviated muscle degradation and restored muscle protein synthesis in DEX-induced C2C12 myotub

We evaluated whether viable and non-viable Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CRL1505 (Lr05V or Lr05NV, respectively) was able to improve emergency myelopoiesis induced by Streptococcus pneumoniae (Sp) infection. Adult Swiss-mice were orally treated with Lr05V or Lr05NV during five consecutive days. The Lr05V and Lr05NV groups and untreated control group received an intraperitoneal dose of cyclophosphamide (Cy-150 mg/kg). Then, the mice were nasally challenged with Sp (107 UFC/mice) on day 3 post-Cy injection. After the pneumococcal challenge, the innate and myelopoietic responses were evaluated. Th

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus Lcr35 is a well-known bacterial strain whose efficiency in preventing recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis has been largely demonstrated in clinical trials. The presence of sodium thiosulfate (STS) has been shown to enhance its ability to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans strains. In this study, we confirmed that Lcr35 has a fungicidal effect not only on the planktonic form of C. albicans but also on other life forms such as hypha and biofilm. Transcriptomic analysis showed that the presence of C. albicans induced a metabolic adaptation of Lcr35 potentially asso

An imbalance of pro-oxidants and antioxidants causes oxidative stress, contributing to various chronic diseases. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have recognised antioxidant activities that can help reduce oxidative stress. This study isolated fifty LAB strains from various fermented foods and raw vegetable products and evaluated their radical scavenging activity using DPPH and ABTS assays. Among them, four strains Lacticaseibacillus paracasei D2, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus JL, Latilactobacillus sakei F1, and Weissella cibaria JLK were selected and assessed for their tolerance to hydrogen peroxide

The human pathobiont Streptococcus pyogenes forms biofilms and causes infections, such as pharyngotonsillitis and necrotizing fasciitis. Bacterial biofilms are more resilient to antibiotic treatment, and new therapeutic strategies are needed to control biofilm-associated infections, such as recurrent pharyngotonsillitis. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus are two bacterial commensals used for their probiotic properties. This study aimed to elucidate the anti-biofilm properties of L. plantarum and L. rhamnosus cell-free supernatants (LPSN and LRSN, respectively) on S

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a complex gastrointestinal disorder involving impaired motility and digestive dysfunction. This study investigated the postbiotic potential of heat-killed Lacticaseibacillus paracasei HP7 (HP7) in a loperamide-induced FD mouse model. Oral administration of heat-killed HP7 improved gastric emptying, and upregulated expression of genes related to smooth muscle contraction. Heat-killed HP7 treatment also modulated key gastrointestinal hormones, including gastrin (GAS), glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP), and peptide YY (PYY), and restored the activities of

Inorganic polyphosphates (polyPs) are energy-storing biopolymers synthesized by all three domains of life. PolyP accumulation has been well studied with respect to its role in stress response, but its role in dental disease has received less attention. Dental decay can be promoted by changes in pH as well as the chemical activity of ions such as phosphate in oral fluids at the enamel interface. Previous work has shown that the drawdown of phosphate from biofilm fluids can alter the saturation state of oral fluids to thermodynamically favour mineral dissolution. The members of the Lactobacillac

Dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiome as a result of overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, such as Gardnerella vaginalis, and low levels of "Работает" lactobacilli leads to bacterial vaginosis (BV), usually associated with a low-grade inflammatory process. Despite appropriate antibiotic treatment, G. vaginalis-associated BV is characterized by significant recurrence. The use of probiotics could be an interesting alternative therapy due to their ability to rebalance vaginal microbiota. In this study, we investigated the effects of a well-characterized probiotic strain, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus Lcr

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) is a widely used probiotic but has limited applications in dairy fermentation because of its poor lactose utilization. Here, we generated a lactose-positive LGG derivative using the LGG endogenous CRISPR-Cas system achieving a marker-free, scarless 20-bp deletion to disrupt the t1 transcriptional terminator upstream of the lactose operon. Using lactose-based selection, lactose-positive derivatives were then isolated and confirmed a restored functional lacG allele by sequencing. After curing the editing plasmid, the final strain, MJM570, was obtained. Whole
