The only approved preventive treatment option GFD remains insufficient to manage Celiac Disease (CeD). A cohort of probiotic bacteria recently indicated that probiotic bacteria such as L. plantarum (LP) have a protective effect on CeD. LP has been a prominent probiotic, studied for numerous modulating properties. This review highlights and summarizes LP's ameliorating effect on various triggers/drivers of CeD. Probiotic LP potential for CeD is noticeable, mainly involving gut microbiota modulation, gluten digestion, intestinal homeostasis, CeD-associated pathogens reduction, and CD4 + T cell r

Probiotics have been suggested to ameliorate intestinal epithelial homeostasis and barrier function. They also modulate several mediators and receptors of the expanded endocannabinoid system, or endocannabinoidome (eCBome), potentially explaining their beneficial effects on intestinal function. We aimed to study the effects of probiotic strains on gut barrier functions and the possible involvement of the eCBome in these effects. We cocultured three strains of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum with murine small intestine epithelial organoids and explored the involvement of eCBome signaling and infl

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Gram-positive facultative anaerobic strain with antioxidant potential, can degrade and detoxify xenobiotic compounds. In this study, we evaluated Lpb. plantarum AM for its antioxidant properties, bisphenol A (BPA) degradation, and Lpb. plantarum AM mediated-Fenton reaction for BPA degradation. ≤ 43.8 µmol BPA did not affect the growth of Lpb. plantarum AM even in glucose-deficient MRS medium. BPA at ≥ 52.56 µmol significantly inhibited growth (p < 0.001) of Lpb. plantarum AM and delayed transition from the logarithmic (log) phase to the stationary phase. When ≥ 5

Androgen dysregulation is the primary driver of androgenetic alopecia (AGA), the most prevalent form of hair loss. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ZJUIDS51 (Z51) in alleviating AGA using a C57BL/6 mouse model and to explore the underlying mechanisms associated with the gut-skin axis. The model was induced via intraperitoneal injection of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Z51 was administered orally via gavage, while topical minoxidil and PBS gavage were used in the control groups. Results showed that Z51 intervention significantly promoted hair regeneration.

As antibiotic-resistant bacteria emerge, antimicrobial peptides have become a promising alternative due to their safety, low residue, and low resistance properties. This study evaluated the in vitro antibacterial activity of peptides obtained from the fermentation of a halotolerant Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CH. Moreover, an in silico antimicrobial activity of L. plantarum was predicted. The strain was previously isolated from ripened, salty Mexican cheese (Chiapas cheese) and genetically reidentified using 16S rRNA. Antimicrobial activity was assessed in MRS broth against five common food

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that can result in neurotoxicity and an imbalance in gut microbiota. Probiotics have been shown to play an important role in regulating the gut microbiota, but their viability and bioactivity are often compromised as they traverse the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing their efficacy and limiting their clinical utility.
RESULTS: In this work, layer-by-layer (LbL) encapsulation technology was used to encapsulate Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (LP) to improve the above shortcomings. Studies in APPswe/PS1dE9 (APP/PS1) tran

The human pathobiont Streptococcus pyogenes forms biofilms and causes infections, such as pharyngotonsillitis and necrotizing fasciitis. Bacterial biofilms are more resilient to antibiotic treatment, and new therapeutic strategies are needed to control biofilm-associated infections, such as recurrent pharyngotonsillitis. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus are two bacterial commensals used for their probiotic properties. This study aimed to elucidate the anti-biofilm properties of L. plantarum and L. rhamnosus cell-free supernatants (LPSN and LRSN, respectively) on S
