Comparison of product safety data sheet ingredient lists with skin irritants and sensitizers present in a convenience sample of light-curing resins used in additive manufacturing.

Material jetting and vat photopolymerization additive manufacturing (AM) processes use liquid resins to build objects. These resins can contain skin irritants and/or sensitizers but product safety data sheets (SDSs) might not declare all ingredients. We characterized elemental and organic skin irritants and sensitizers present in 39 commercial products; evaluated the influence of resin manufacturer, system, color, and AM process type on the presence of irritants and sensitizers; and compared product SDSs to results. Among all products, analyses identified 23 irritant elements, 54 irritant orga

Evaluation of the effect of light intensity and direction on microleakage in composite resins.

PURPOSE: Despite the aesthetic advantages of composite resins, polymerization shrinkage leads to microgaps, microleakage, and restoration failures. Various light-curing devices and techniques have been developed to reduce polymerization shrinkage; however, microleakage has not been completely prevented. High light intensity can shorten treatment time but may also increase polymerization stresses, potentially leading to increased microleakage. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different light intensities and application directions on microleakage. METHODS: In this study, 48 caries

Influence of high-power light-curing modes on the mechanical and optical properties of no-cap bulk-fill resin composites.

OBJECTIVES: The clinical performance of no-cap bulk-fill resin composites depends strongly on adequate polymerization, which influences both mechanical durability and optical stability. Although contemporary high-power light-curing units (LCUs) provide ultra-fast curing modes, evidence regarding their effects on modern bulk-fill materials remains limited. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the influence of different polymerization modes of VALO and Bluephase PowerCure on the microhardness and color stability of no-cap bulk-fill resin composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four no-cap bulk-fill

Influence of intervening media and thickness on transmitted irradiance from a dental light-curing unit.

BACKGROUND: Light-activated and dual-cure resin systems require sufficient transmitted irradiance for adequate polymerization. During cementation, saliva, blood, or oxygen-inhibiting agents may be interposed between the curing light and the restorative material. This in vitro study evaluated the influence of intervening media type and thickness on transmitted irradiance from a dental light-curing unit. METHODS: Four intervening media were evaluated: artificial saliva, deionized water, an oxygen-inhibiting agent (Oxyguard II), and porcine whole blood, at thicknesses of 1, 3, and 6 mm. Cylindri

Palate Fracture Repair With Light-Cured Resin Splint: Technical Note.

Palate fractures are rare, and their treatment is a matter of debate. Although some investigators have favored rigid plate fixation, others have reported successful treatment without it. Sagittal split and comminuted fractures can require rigid fixation to reduce the maxillary width; however, additional stabilization is needed. Also, palate repair without a splint is complicated by prolonged intermaxillary fixation (IMF), causing stiffness to the temporomandibular joint. We introduce a technique using a rapid light-cured resin (TRIAD TranSheet) frequently used by orthodontists for making denta

Comparison of modern light-curing hybrid resin-based composites to the tooth structure: Static and dynamic mechanical parameters.

The study aims to compare the way modern resin-based composites (RBCs) respond to mechanical stress related to the tooth structure they are designed to replace. Eight representative light-cured RBCs, including ormocers, giomers, RBCs with nano and agglomerated nanoparticles, prepolymerized, or compact fillers, were selected. Flexural strength, FS and modulus/E, were measured in a three-point bending test. A fractographic analysis determined the origin of fracture. The quasi-static (indentation hardness/HIT , indentation modulus/EIT ) and viscoelastic (storage modulus/E', loss modulus/E″, loss

Size-controllable synthesis of hydroxyapatite nanorods via fluorine modulation: applications in dental adhesives for enhanced enamel remineralization.

BACKGROUND: There has been little application of fluorine-substituted hydroxyapatites (FHAs) in dental adhesives. Previous studies primarily focused on the effect of fluoride content on enamel remineralization, neglecting the role of FHA particle size. This study aimed to synthesize uniform FHA nanorods of varying sizes by adjusting the fluorine doping levels, and to investigate the synergistic effects of the fluorine content and nanorod size on enamel remineralization by incorporating the FHA nanorods into adhesives. METHODS: FHA nanorods with varying fluorine doping levels and sizes were sy

Mechanical Behaviour of Novel Nanohybrid Resin Composite Using Two Light Cure Systems.

INTRODUCTION: Zein-incorporated magnesium oxide nanoparticles (zMgO NPs) were found to be effective against the bacteria S. mutans, S. aureus, E. faecalis and C. albicans, and can impart this antimicrobial effect on the resin composite it is integrated with. However, the effect of different light curing systems on the mechanical properties of this novel biomaterial has yet to be investigated. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of light-emitting diode (LED) and quarts-tungsten halogen (QTH) light curing systems on the compressive strength, flexural strength, and microhardness
