Ligilactobacillus salivarius Lac45 inhibits MRSA and suppresses inflammation in human keratinocyte.

Dysbiosis, an imbalance in skin microflora, is a key contributor to inflammatory skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis (AD), seborrheic dermatitis (SD), and psoriasis. In AD, Staphylococcus aureus colonization of skin lesions is prevalent approximately 70% of cases, with disease severity positively correlating with bacterial presence. Moreover, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is found in 10-30% of AD skin lesions, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic strategies that target both microbial imbalance and inflammation. This study evaluates Ligilactobacillus salivar

Effect of Ligilactobacillus salivarius and Other Natural Components against Anaerobic Periodontal Bacteria.

In this present study, the bacteriostatic effect of Salistat SGL03 and the Lactobacillus salivarius strain contained in it was investigated in adults in in vivo and in vitro tests on selected red complex bacteria living in the subgingival plaque, inducing a disease called periodontitis, i.e., chronic periodontitis. Untreated periodontitis can lead to the destruction of the gums, root cementum, periodontium, and alveolar bone. Anaerobic bacteria, called periopathogens or periodontopathogens, play a key role in the etiopathogenesis of periodontitis. The most important periopathogens of the oral

Genomic and metabonomic methods reveal the probiotic functions of swine-derived Ligilactobacillus salivarius.

BACKGROUND: As substitutes for antibiotics, probiotic bacteria protect against digestive infections caused by pathogenic bacteria. Ligilactobacillus salivarius is a species of native lactobacillus found in both humans and animals. Herein, a swine-derived Ligilactobacillus salivarius was isolated and shown to colonize the ileal mucous membrane, thereby promoting nutritional digestion, absorption, and immunity. To evaluate its probiotic role, the entire genome was sequenced, the genetic information was annotated, and the metabolic information was analyzed. RESULTS: The phylogenetic relationship

Postbiotics From Ligilactobacillus salivarius Enhance Mitochondrial Robustness Via TLR2 Signaling in Intestinal Macrophages.

Postbiotics, defined as preparations of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components, have attracted increasing attention because of their stability and functional benefits. Although lactic acid bacteria (LAB) modulate immune responses and oxidative stress, their direct effects on host mitochondrial homeostasis remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated whether postbiotics derived from Ligilactobacillus salivarius enhance mitochondrial robustness in porcine intestinal macrophages (IPIMs). To establish a model of disrupted mitochondrial redox homeostasis, mitochondrial dysfunc

Ligilactobacillus salivarius-driven metabolic alterations of Staphylococcus aureus amplifies virulence and disrupts intestinal barrier homeostasis.

Probiotics typically confer health benefits by inhibiting the adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus and reducing its adhesion and accumulation in the host. However, our previous studies have shown that Ligilactobacillus salivarius interacting with S. aureus, actually enhanced the adherence of S. aureus, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, using in vitro co-culture models, cell-based assays, and in vivo animal experiments, we compared the effects of viable L. salivarius (vLS), its supernatant (sLS), and inactivated L. salivarius (iLS) on S. aureus behavior. The results s

Effects of Ligilactobacillus salivarius on the control of pullorum disease and cecal microbiota in red-feathered native chickens.

Pullorum disease (PD), caused by Salmonella Pullorum (SP), remains a persistent challenge in native chicken production in Asia. Recurrent outbreaks and reliance on antibiotics have raised concerns about antimicrobial resistance. This study established a reproducible clinical PD model in red-feathered native chickens (RFCs) and evaluated Ligilactobacillus salivarius (LS) as a potential alternative to antibiotic. Oral administration of a field SP isolate (SPB6) at 1 × 10⁸ CFU per chick for four consecutive days induced typical PD signs and persistent bacterial colonization, whereas a single-dose

Behavioral, antioxidant, and kynurenine pathway modulation of a specific strain of Ligilactobacillus salivarius in a preclinical model of depression.

PURPOSE: Current antidepressants targeting neurotransmitters often fail to alleviate symptoms. Alternative hypotheses suggest inflammation may trigger an alternative route that converts tryptophan into kynurenine, reducing the bioavailability of tryptophan to synthesize serotonin while producing neuroactive metabolites such as quinolinic acid (QUINA, excitotoxic) and kynurenic acid (KYNA, neuroprotective). This study evaluates the effects on these systems of a specific strain of Ligilactobacillus salivarius (L. salivarius), identified in the Spanish Type Culture Collection as CECT 30632, in a

Prevention of Loperamide-Induced Constipation in Mice and Alteration of 5-Hydroxytryotamine Signaling by Ligilactobacillus salivarius Li01.

Although Ligilactobacillus salivarius Li01 (Li01) has shown much promise in preventing multiple gastrointestinal diseases, the potential of the probiotic in alleviating constipation and the related mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, the effects of Li01 were evaluated in a loperamide-induced constipation mouse model. The results demonstrated that Li01 intervention can relieve constipation symptoms by improving water content, quantity, and morphology of feces and act as an intestinal barrier structure protector. Furthermore, Li01 can modulate gut motility (gastrointestinal transit rate),

Ligilactobacillus salivarius 8-2 attenuates intestinal mucosal injury in chicks via the mitochondrial fision-glycometabolism reprogramming axis.

The intestinal mucosa is crucial for nutrient absorption and barrier function. In this study, a newly identified strain of Ligilactobacillus salivarius (L. sa. 8-2) exhibited a mucosal protective effect in chick intestinal injury models. However, the underlying mechanisms need to be clarified. In vivo, chicks were pre-fed with L. sa. 8-2 supernatant or its precipitate and then challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or Salmonella Typhimurium (STm). The results showed that L. sa. 8-2 and its supernatant significantly reduced intestinal epithelial apoptosis, increased goblet cell density and Mu
