Microbiota and Probiotics: The Role of Limosilactobacillus Reuteri in Diverticulitis.

The microbiota is the set of commensal microorganisms, residing in the organism, helping proper functioning of organs and systems. The role that the microbiota plays in maintaining the health of vertebrates is widely accepted, particularly in the gastrointestinal system, where it is fundamental for immunity, development, and conversion of nutrients. Dysbiosis is an alteration of the microbiota which refers to a disturbed balance, which can cause a number of pathologies. Probiotics have proven to be effective in modulating the microbiota of the gastrointestinal system and, therefore, in promoti

Limosilactobacillus reuteri enhances ovarian function and female fertility.

Limosilactobacillus reuteri Y15 (LRY15)-derived polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) restore follicular cell-cell junctions and fertility. LRY15, isolated from the intestine of alginate oligosaccharides (AOS)-dosed mice, improves ovarian function and fertility in cisplatin-induced subfertile mice. LRY15 produces PUFAs, whereas deletion of holo-acyl carrier protein synthase (AcpS) in LRY15 reduces PUFA synthesis and weakens its protective effects. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation recapitulates LRY15-mediated improvements in follicle and embryo development. Stereo-seq analysis reveals t

Limosilactobacillus reuteri Alleviates Parkinson's Disease by Regulating CDCA Secretion.

To explore potential therapeutic agents for Parkinson's disease (PD), we investigated the impact of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri), a probiotic found to be significantly depleted in 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced PD rat model. Despite its known benefits, the specific effects and underlying mechanisms of L. reuteri in PD remain poorly understood. In this study, we demonstrated that supplementation with L. reuteri alleviated motor deficits and attenuated dopamine (DA) neuron damage in 6-OHDA-induced PD rats. 16 S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics revealed that L. reuteri

Real-world of Limosilactobacillus reuteri in mitigation of acute experimental colitis.

Probiotics have been proposed as a potential strategy for managing ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the underlying mechanisms mediating microbiota-host crosstalk remain largely elusive. Here, we report that Limosilactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri), as a probiotic, secretes cytoplasmic membrane vesicles (CMVs) that communicate with host cells, alter host physiology, and alleviate dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. First, L. reuteri-CMVs selectively promoted the proliferation of the beneficial bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila (AKK) by upregulating the expression of glycosidases (bet

Limosilactobacillus reuteri Strains as Adjuvants in the Management of Helicobacter pylori Infection.

Helicobacter pylori (HP) is a Gram-negative bacterium which finds its suitable habitat in the stomach. The infection affects about half of the global population with high variability in prevalence among regions and for age. HP is the main causative agent of chronic active gastritis, peptic and duodenal ulcers, and may be the primary cause of gastric cancer or MALT lymphoma. Due to the high rate of failure of eradication therapy in various countries and the increase in antibiotic resistance reported in the literature, there is an ever wider need to seek alternative therapeutic treatments. Immune Boosting Effect of Limosilactobacillus Reuteri in Immunocompetent C57BL/6J Mice.

Probiotics are well-known to be directly or indirectly involved in the host immune system. In this study, we analyzed the immune-boosting effects of lactic acid bacteria, including Limosilactobacillus and Lactococcus, in immunocompetent C57BL/6J mice. Three different lactic acid bacteria strains were orally administered to C57BL/6J mice for 8 weeks. Then, liver, spleen, and whole blood were harvested after sacrificing the animals. There were no significant changes in whole-body weight, weight of organs, or complete blood cell count by oral administration of lactic acid bacteria. The frequencie

Microencapsulated Limosilactobacillus reuteri Encoding Lactoferricin-Lactoferrampin Targeted Intestine against Salmonella typhimurium Infection.

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) is an important foodborne pathogen that infects both humans and animals and develops acute gastroenteritis. As porcine intestines are relatively similar to the human ones due to their relatively similar sizes and structural similarity, S. typhimurium causes analogous symptoms in both. Novel strategies for controlling S. typhimurium infection are also desired, such as mucosal-targeted delivery of probiotics and antimicrobial peptides. The bovine lactoferricin-lactoferrampin-encoding Limosilactobacillus reuteri (LR-LFCA) strain improves in

Development of probiotics beverage using cereal enzymatic hydrolysate fermented with Limosilactobacillus reuteri.

Although most probiotic products are milk based, lactose intolerance and vegetarianism inspired the idea of developing nondairy probiotic products. In this study, probiotic beverages were produced from four enzymatically hydrolyzed cereal substrates (coix seed, quinoa, millet, and brown rice) and fermented by Limosilactobacillus reuteri. Fermentation parameters, including pH, titratable acidity, viable count, organic acids, and volatile components were determined. Results showed that the pH values decreased and titratable acidity increased with the fermentation process (p < .05). Although the

The Effect of Limosilactobacillus reuteri on Social Behavior Is Independent of the Adaptive Immune System.

Gut microbes can modulate almost all aspects of host physiology throughout life. As a result, specific microbial interventions are attracting considerable attention as potential therapeutic strategies for treating a variety of conditions. Nonetheless, little is known about the mechanisms through which many of these microbes work. Recently, we and others have found that the commensal bacterium Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri) reverses social deficits in several mouse models (genetic, environmental, and idiopathic) for neurodevelopmental disorders in a vagus nerve-, o

Assessment of the efficacy of a feed additive consisting of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri) DSM 32203 for dogs (NBF LANES).

Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the efficacy of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri) DSM 32203 as a zootechnical additive for dogs. The additive is a preparation of viable cells of L. reuteri DSM 32203 and it has not been previously authorised as a feed additive in the European Union. The additive is intended for use in complete feed for dogs at a minimum use level of 6 × 109 colony forming units (CFU) per animal and day. In a previous opinion, the FEEDAP Panel could not conclude on the efficacy of L. r

Limosilactobacillus reuteri ameliorates preeclampsia in mice via improving gut dysbiosis and endothelial dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: As a leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, preeclampsia (PE) remains enigmatic. We confirmed that PE is associated with gut dysbiosis. However, whether probiotics could improve PE via regulating gut microbiota remains unclear. Exploring specific probiotic that could alleviate PE by modulating gut microbiota and elucidating detailed mechanisms will be essential for treating PE. METHODS: PE model was induced by nitric oxide (NO) inhibition with L-NAME in mice, and treated with Limosilactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri). 16 S rDNA analysis was conducted on fec
