Lipid Accumulation Product Outperforms BMI and Waist Circumference in Metabolic Disorders.

Background and Objective: Obesity is a global health issue intricately linked to metabolic syndrome (MetS), insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. Anthropometric indices, particularly those measuring central obesity, have emerged as more reliable predictors of these metabolic disorders than general obesity indices such as body mass index (BMI). However, the relative predictive power of these indices remains debated, particularly across sexes. This study aimed to evaluate the discriminative performance of various anthropometric measures, including lipid accumulation product (LAP), BMI, waist cir

[Accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in cataractous lenses].

A study was made of the content of lipid peroxidation products (LPP) in the lenses extracted during operations for cataract as well as in transparent human lenses. In a mature cataract, the elevated content of primary, secondary and end products of lipid peroxidation (diene and triene conjugates, Schiff bases) was revealed. The content of LPP was identical in different clinical patterns of a mature cataract (senile, traumatic, complicated), which points to the universal role of lipid peroxidation in lenticular opacity.

Lipid Accumulation Product and Index of Central Lipid Distributions for Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Perimenopausal/Menopausal Women.

BACKGROUND: Lipid accumulation product (LAP) is a novel biomarker of central lipid accumulation related to the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Consistent with physiologic observations, an alternative index uses waist circumference (WC) and fasting triglycerides (TG) concentrations to describe lipid over accumulation. Objective: Explore the association of LAP with anthropometric parameters and subclinical atherosclerosis in perimenopausal/menopausal women with no evidence of established CVD. OBJECTIVE: Explore the association of LAP with anthropometric parameters and subclin

Accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in human myotonic dystrophic muscle.

The possibility of oxygen radical-induced injury contributing to the pathogenesis of muscle disorders was studied. Significant increases in fluorescent lipid peroxidation products was found in the muscle samples of myotonic dystrophy (MyD) patients as compared to controls as well as patients with Duchenne Muscular dystrophy (DMD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Polymyositis and Limb Girdle Dystrophy (LGD). The results demonstrate the possibility that in MyD the primary genetic disorder leads to the rapid generation of oxygen radicals, tissue depletion of antioxidants followed by peroxida

Lipid accumulation product (LAP): a key indicator for metabolic dysregulation and inflammatory status in obesity.

The Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP) is recognized as an indicator of lipid-induced cellular stress. While its predictive value for conditions like diabetes, liver disease, and metabolic syndrome is established, its specific correlations with individual metabolic and hematological markers within the context of obesity remain less defined. This study sought to comprehensively investigate the links between LAP and a spectrum of metabolic and hematological biomarkers in individuals with obesity. This cross-sectional study involved 304 obese participants. Standard anthropometric measurements [weig

Genome-wide investigations of the lipid accumulation product index pinpoints polygenic determinants underlying pancreatitis susceptibility.

The lipid accumulation product index (LAP) is a robust marker of lipid burden. However, its genetic architecture and causal relevance to pancreatitis remain poorly characterized. We performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of LAP in 388,213 European from UK Biobank, followed by colocalization, transcriptome-wide association studies (TWAS), LD score regression and Mendelian randomization for causal relationships. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) were constructed and tested against chronic pancreatitis (CP), hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP), and acute pancreatitis (AP) using r

The lipid accumulation product for the early prediction of gestational insulin resistance and glucose dysregulation.

BACKGROUND: Recent insights linking insulin resistance and lipid overaccumulation suggest a novel approach for the early identification of women who may soon experience glucose dysregulation. Among women without a history of gestational diabetes, we tested the association between the lipid accumulation product (LAP) obtained in early pregnancy and glucose dysregulation or insulin resistance in the second trimester. METHODS: A total of 180 white pregnant women of French-Canadian origin were included in this study. At 11–14 weeks' gestation, fasting insulin, glucose, C-peptide concentrations, a
