Litchi induced liver inflammation: Investigating litchi thaumatin-like protein metabolic kinetics in mice.

Pro-inflammatory activity of litchi thaumatin-like protein (LcTLP) contributed to adverse response after overdoing litchi consumption. Less caring about metabolic process of LcTLP severely limited the elucidation of mechanism of action. Metabolic kinetics of fluorescein isothiocyanate labeled LcTLP (F-LcTLP) and reason for LcTLP-induced hepatic inflammation were investigated in mice. The imaging results indicated part of F-LcTLP accumulation in liver vias small intestinal, the rest reaching large intestinal, with the peak at 2 h (1.3 × 1010), 2 h (1.1 × 1012), and 3 h (6.4 × 1011), respectivel

Degradation of tetracyclines in manure-amended soil and their uptake by litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.).

The environmental and human health risk posed by veterinary antibiotics is of global concern. Antibiotic uptake by herbal plants has been studied, but little is known about perennial woody fruit crops. Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.), a longevial fruit tree, is routinely fertilized with animal manure and, therefore, may be at risk of antibiotic uptake into its fruits. This study investigated the degradation of chlortetracycline and doxycycline present in manure used to amend orchard soil, and their subsequent assimilation by litchi plant, as affected by manure application rate. The results sho

Integrated transcriptomics and metabolomics analysis reveal LcSWEET12 regulating sugar accumulation in litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.).

Soluble sugars constitute one of the key quality-determining traits of litchifruit and contribute substantially to flavour formation. 'Heli' (HL) is a traditional litchi cultivar, and its bud mutant 'Dongtianxianli' (DTXL) displays brighter fruit colour, higher soluble-sugar content and lower acidity. To dissect the molecular basis underlying these phenotypic differences, we performed comparative transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses between DTXL and HL. A total of 1 904 differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs, fold-change ≥ 1.2/≤0.83) and 10 454 differentially expressed genes (DEGs, q-

LcRAV2 regulates drought resistance in litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn) through a potential LcSnRK1-mediated phosphorylation.

Drought stress severely affects the flowering and fruit set of litchi, while the molecular mechanism of the RAV transcription factor in litchi drought resistance remains unclear. In this study, we systematically evaluated the leaf drought tolerance characteristics of 32 litchi cultivars and identified highly dehydration tolerant cultivars including 'Hongdenglong' and 'Nuomici', a moderately dehydration tolerant cultivar 'Qingrenli', as well as weakly dehydration tolerant cultivars 'Nanjuhong' and 'Hongxiuqiu'. Physiological analysis showed that litchi leaves cope with drought by increasing the

Hepatoprotective effects of litchi (Litchi chinensis) procyanidin A2 on carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury in ICR mice.

Drug tolerance, lacking liver regenerative activity and inconclusive inhibition of steatosis and cirrhosis by silymarin treatment during chronic liver injury have increased the demand for novel alternative or synergistic treatments for liver damage. Litchi fruit is abundant in polyphenolic compounds and is used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatments that include the strengthening of hepatic and pancreatic functions. Unique polyphenolic compounds obtained from litchi pericarp extract (LPE) were studied in vitro and in vivo for hepatoprotection. Epicatechin (EC) and procyanidin A2 (PA2)

Discovery and Characterization of Antioxidant Compounds in the Pericarp and Seed Byproducts of Different Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) Fruits.

The processing of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruits generates substantial amounts of pericarp and seed by-products, which are candidate sources of antioxidant compounds but are underutilized. This study systematically investigated the total phenolic content (TPC) and in vitro antioxidant capacities (FRAP, ABTS, and DPPH values) of pericarp and seed extracts across eight commercial litchi cultivars. Qualitative LC-MS-based phytochemical profiling was further performed on the representative 'Bingli' cultivar. The results indicated that litchi seeds consistently exhibited significantly highe

Terminal Shoot Maturity Orchestrates LcSPL-LcFT1 Signaling to Dictate Low-Temperature Floral Induction in Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.).

In perennial fruit trees, erratic floral initiation and alternate bearing represent major horticultural challenges, yet how vegetative shoot maturity conditions low-temperature responsiveness remains poorly understood. Here, using litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) as a model, we deciphered the physiological and molecular framework governing maturity-dependent floral induction under winter chilling. Mature terminal shoots exhibited exceptional flowering competence and superior inflorescence morphology, whereas immature expanding shoots failed to initiate pure panicles. Dynamic metabolic profiling

Antibacterial activity of a polysaccharide isolated from litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) pericarp against Staphylococcus aureus and the mechanism investigation.

The long-term use of antibiotics can cause drug resistance. Natural polysaccharides are a novel means of treating bacterial infections, and the development and utilization of litchi pericarp polysaccharide (LPPs) as a bacteriostatic active substance offer a new research direction for the high-value utilization of litchi by-products. This study revealed that LPPs inhibited Staphylococcus aureus more than Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella typhimurium, with the minimum inhibitory concentrations of 145, 205, 325, and 445 μg/mL, respectively. The inhibitory activity of LPPs w

Methanolic extracts of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.): A novel approach of targeting glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase for liver cancer therapy.

Cancer metabolism has emerged as a potential target for innovative therapeutic approaches in the treatment of cancer. Cancer metabolism has received much attention, particularly in relation to glucose metabolism. It has been observed that human malignancies have high levels of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity which is an important enzyme of glucose metabolism. This overactivity is associated with the cell death and angiogenesis, highlighting its potential as a viable target for cancer treatment. This study was conducted to examine the methanolic extracts from the seeds, bark a

Multi-omics profiling of microbial ecology and non-volatile compounds across fermentation stages of spontaneous litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fermented vinegar-like beverage.

INTRODUCTION: Litchi fruit vinegar-like beverages (LVBs) are notable processed products derived from litchi fruit, yet few studies have focused on the systematic characterization of microbial and metabolic dynamics during their natural fermentation process. METHODS: This work employed a comprehensive methodology integrating metagenomics and untargeted metabolomics based on UHPLC-MS/MS (Orbitrap Q Exactive HF-X) to elucidate the dynamic profiles of the microbial community and non-volatile metabolites, as well as their interrelations, across the various spontaneous fermentation stages of LVBs.

A lightweight DSD-UNet-based method for clustered litchi segmentation.

Automated litchi harvesting demands clustered fruit segmentation with both high accuracy and real-time performance, yet high computational complexity and parameter redundancy pose critical bottlenecks for practical deployment. To tackle these challenges, we propose a lightweight DSD-UNet method for fast and high-precision segmentation of litchi clusters. The DSD-UNet incorporates depthwise separable convolutions to replace traditional convolutional structures, significantly reducing parameters and computational complexity. To further enhance the model's performance, we introduce a dual cross-a

FQGR-net: Morphology-based litchi flower quantification and gender recognition.

As a crucial agricultural crop in China, litchi exhibits a biennial bearing pattern with alternating high-yield and low-yield cycles, known as on-year and off-year respectively. Research has identified unstable floral initiation as the primary cause of irregular fruiting in mid-to-late maturing cultivars. Rapid and accurate quantification of female to male flower ratios during the flowering phase enables targeted management strategies to optimize floral development and enhance fruit-setting rates. This study proposes Flower Quantification and Gender Recognition Network (FQGR-Net), a three-bran

Liposome/chitosan coating film bioplastic packaging for Litchi fruit preservation.

Chitosan is an ideal coating film for food preservation, but the performance of a single chitosan coating film is not good. Herein, the liposome was prepared by embedding copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) and thyme essential oil (TEO) in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic double-domain structure formed by phospholipids, and combining with chitosan to obtain a chitosan-based coating film for litchi preservation. The liposome was well-dispersed and stable with an average particle size of about 190 nm. The liposome showed excellent controllable release properties, and the cumulative release rate of TEO w
