Chylopericardium Secondary to Lymphangiomyoma - A case report -.

Chylopericardium is a rare disease entity characterized by the accumulation of chylous fluid in the pericardial sac. It usually arises from mediastinal neoplasms, thrombosis of the subclavian vein, tuberculosis, nonsurgical trauma, thoracic or cardiac surgery. The spectrum of symptoms for chylopericardium varies from an incidental finding of cardiomegaly to dyspnea, upper abdominal discomfort, cough, chest pain, palpitation, fatigue. However, most of the patients are asymptomatic. The main purpose of treatment of chylopericardium is the prevention of cardiac tamponade and prevention of metabol

Mediastinal lymphangiomyoma in an adult: Report of a case.

Lymphangiomyoma is a rare benign hamartoma of lymphatic origin. A 70-year-old woman presented with a 6-month history of a cough and dyspnea on exertion. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the chest showed a 10 x 9 x 4 cm multiloculated tumor in the anterior mediastinum. We resected the tumor successfully, preserving all vital structures, even though the tumor margin was partially indistinct. The tumor was diagnosed as lymphangiomyoma based on the pathological and immunohistological findings. Hamartomatous lymphangiomyoma is not expressed by markers for secondary lymphangiomy

Mediastinal lymphangiomyoma in a child: report of a case.

Lymphangiomas and lymphangiomyomas are benign abnormal collections of lymphatic vessels which form a cystic mass. The mediastinum is an uncommon location for these hamartomas in children, but may be life-threatening. We report herein the case of a 23-month-old boy who presented with stridor and a history of recurrent respiratory tract infections. Soon after his admission he suddenly developed respiratory failure and was found to have a multiloculated, cystic mediastinal mass which was initially thought to be a lymphangioma. The mass was extensively infiltrative, and histological examination sh

Cystic lymphangiomyoma of the colon causing protein-losing enteropathy.

This report documents a case of cystic lymphangiomyoma of the sigmoid colon in a 35-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of a protein-losing enteropathy. This case was unique in that it involved not only the colonic wall and mesentery but also extended into the retroperitoneum. Surgical excision of the affected segment has resulted in reversal of hypoproteinaemia and return to normal of the excessive faecal loss of 51Cr-labeled protein over a 2-year follow-up period.

Retroduodenal lymphangiomyoma: A rare cause of abdominal pain - A case report.

BACKGROUND: Lymphangiomyomas are rare benign tumors arising from the lymphatic system, most commonly found in the retroperitoneum. Retroduodenal lymphangiomyomas are exceedingly rare and present significant diagnostic challenges due to their nonspecific symptoms and overlapping features with other retroperitoneal and gastrointestinal pathologies. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 48-year-old man with persistent abdominal pain lasting several weeks. Clinical examination and laboratory investigations were unremarkable. Gastroscopy revealed no abnormalities. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (C

Chylopericardium Due to Residual Lymphangiomyoma Detected on 99mTc-Sulfur Colloid Lymphoscintigraphy.

Lymphangiomyomas are relatively rare, benign neoplasms. Many patients present with symptoms including effusions, and some cases are incidentally detected. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice, but because of its location, complete surgical resection of a lymphangioma can be technically difficult, and recurrent cases can present with symptoms including effusions. 99mTc-sulfur colloid scan can be used to confirm the leak and nature of the effusion fluid. Here, we present an 8-year-old girl with recurrent pleural and pericardial effusions after lymphocele excision and total pericardiectom

[Acute abdominal pain and fever in a young woman as the first symptoms of lymphangioleiomyomatosis].

A previously healthy 28-year-old woman presented to the emergency clinic with acute severe abdominal pain and high fever. A diagnostic laparoscopy was performed, during which a large retroperitoneal tumour was found. A CT-scan of the abdomen and thorax confirmed the presence of a retroperitoneal mass but also revealed multiple renal angiomyolipomas and extensive cystic lesions in all lung fields. Based on these findings, the diagnosis lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) was suspected, and later confirmed by histological examination of a biopsy specimen. The acute abdomen and fever appeared to have

A histopathological diagnosis of mesenteric cystic lymphangioma, clinically misdiagnosed as simple mesenteric cyst - case report.

Abdominal cystic lymphangiomas are relatively rare congenital malformations, predominantly found in the pediatric age group. They are usually found in the head and neck of affected children. Lymphangioma of the small-bowel mesentery is rare, having been reported for less than 1% of all lymphangiomas. The gross and histopathological findings may resemble benign multicystic mesothelioma and lymphangiomyoma. The immunohistochemical study for factor VIII-related antigen, D2-40, calretinin and human melanoma black-45 (HMB-45) is essential for diagnosis. Factor VIII-related antigen and D2-40 are pos

Lymphangiomyomatosis of the uterus associated with tuberous sclerosis and malignant neoplasia of the female genital tract: a report of two cases.

Lymphangiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease that does not generally affect the female genital tract. We report two cases of uterine involvement by LAM in young women with tuberous sclerosis and renal angiomyolipomas. In both, the uterine lesions were grossly inapparent and were discovered during microscopic examination of hysterectomy specimens removed during surgical treatment for a primary ovarian adenocarcinoma with peritoneal and lymph node metastases in one case and a retroperitoneal lymphangiomyoma in the other. In one case, an area of uterine LAM with atypical features was interpreted

Lymphangiomyomatosis: report of a case with ureteral involvement and chyluria.

A 54-year-old woman, presenting with chyluria and progressive dyspnea, is reported. Necropsy revealed co-existent lymphangiomyomatosis and pneumoconiosis in the lungs. Retroperitoneal lymphangiomyomas surrounded the distal ureters, and cystoscopy revealed pyelolymphatic backflow into renal lymphatic sinuses. The finding of chyluria with atypical smooth muscle hyperplasia within the ureters is extremely rare. Previously reported cases of lymphangiomyomatosis are discussed and compared with our own. Electron micrographs of involved lymph nodes are presented and the findings briefly evaluated.

Bannayan-Zonana syndrome associated with lymphangiomyomatous lesions.

Bannayan-Zonana syndrome is an autosomal dominant condition that has not been well described in the dermatology literature. The typical case is characterized by macrocephaly, multiple angiomas, and multiple encapsulated or infiltrating lipomas. As in other autosomal dominant hamartoneoplastic syndromes, the degree of expression within one family frequently varies widely. Our patient had macrocephaly and angiomas, as well as lipomas with peculiar histologic features similar to lymphangiomyomas. Her father had a large nevus flameus on his leg, and lipomas with normal histologic appearance. The p

Primary extrapulmonary sugar tumor (PEST): a report of four cases.

The cell of origin and direction of differentiation of the clear cell tumor of the lung (the so-called sugar tumor) remains enigmatic. Recognition of HMB-45 immunoreactivity and identification of melanosomes have suggested a relationship to angiomyolipoma of kidney or liver and lymphangiomyoma. This has given rise to the concept that clear cell tumors are neoplasms of so-called perivascular epithelioid cells--PEComas. Herein we report the existence of four similar tumors occurring in extrapulmonary sites, one of which had malignant features. The three benign tumors occurred in females ages 9,

Recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax in a 42 years old woman with pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis: insights and pitfalls of the surgical treatment.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease that occurs predominantly in females between the ages of 30 and 50 years and is clinically characterized by progressive dyspnoea on exertion, recurrent pneumothoraces, abdominal and thoracic lymphadenopathy, as well tumors-like angiomyolipomas and lymphangiomyomas. We present the case of a 42-year-old woman, who developed recurrent pneumothoraces and was subsequently diagnosed with LAM. Although pneumothorax is a common complication of the disease, its optimal approach to treatment and prevention remains unclear. Chemical or surgical pleurodesis

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis: new concepts in pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a slowly progressive lung disease that is associated with mutations in tuberous sclerosis complex genes, infiltration of the pulmonary parenchyma and lymphatics with neoplastic smooth muscle cells, extensive tissue remodeling and architectural distortion of the lung, and tumors of the chest and abdomen, including lymphangiomyomas and angiomyolipomas. LAM occurs in women in the general population and in patients of both genders with tuberous sclerosis. Overt clinical manifestations of LAM occur almost exclusively in females, however, and include progressive dys

[Lymphangiomyomatosis: an exceptional cause of chyluria. Report of a case].

A rare case of lymphangiomatosis without pulmonary involvement is reported. The diagnosis was based on the presence of multifocal lesions and histological examination. Retroperitoneal lesions were responsible for chyluria, which was treated surgically. Chyluria is an exceptional complication of this disease, as only 3 such cases have been reported in the literature. The presence of cutaneous signs raises the question of the relations between lymphangiomatosis and Bourneville's tuberous sclerosis.

[Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural study of two cases].

The authors report two cases of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis which were diagnosed by surgical biopsies. Immunohistochemical study showed positive staining of the smooth muscle cells using antibodies directed against smooth muscle actin, specific muscle actin, HMB45 and vimentin. Ultrastructural study showed some smooth muscle differentiation features, with numerous myofilaments and some dense bodies near the plasma membrane. In one case, the patient was treated by a double-lung transplantation. LAM is a non-familial disease occurring exclusively in females. The etiology is unknown. This

Chromosome typing in lymphangioleiomyomatosis of the lung with and without tuberous sclerosis.

Two cases of lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LLM) of the lungs are compared, one with tuberous sclerosis and the other representing an isolated lung involvement. An increased frequency of complex chromosomal rearrangements was found in peripheral lymphocytes of the patient with tuberous sclerosis, in comparison to the patient with isolated lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Telomeric associations were found in cultured pulmonary smooth muscle cells from the patient with isolated LLM.

Solitary lymphangioleiomyoma of pancreas mimicking pancreatic pseudocyst--a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease characterized by proliferation of morphologically distinguishable smooth muscle cells in the lymphatics and lymph nodes of the pulmonary parenchyma in most cases. Extrapulmonary LAM is a rare condition and is found to occur concurrently, before or after pulmonary LAM, and show strong association with tuberous sclerosis. DISCUSSION: The literature regarding extrapulmonary LAM without associated pulmonary LAM is limited due to the extreme rarity of the cases. We hereby describe clinical, pathological and radiological features of pri
