Mammaglobin expression in gynecologic adenocarcinomas.

Mammaglobin (MGB) has been proposed as a sensitive and specific immunohistochemical marker for adenocarcinoma of the breast. The differential diagnosis of breast adenocarcinoma versus a gynecologic primary frequently arises. We performed a semiquantitative survey of MGB immunoreactivity in 26 benign gynecologic tissues (6 ectocervices, 9 endocervices, 11 endometria), 86 ovarian adenocarcinomas, 70 endometrial adenocarcinomas, and 10 endocervical adenocarcinomas. Among ovarian tumors, MGB was present in 40% of endometrioid carcinomas; 36%, serous carcinomas; 21%, clear cell carcinomas; and 6%,

Mammaglobin, a potential marker of breast cancer nodal metastasis.

The Mammaglobin gene, a breast-specific member of the uteroglobin gene family, has been previously identified as being overexpressed in some breast tumours, but the cellular origin and relationship to tumour progression are unknown. Using a subtractive hybridization approach, mammaglobin mRNA has also been found to be overexpressed in the in situ compared to the invasive element within an individual breast tumour. Further study by in situ hybridization performed in 13 breast tumours, selected to include normal, in situ, and invasive primary tumour elements, and in most cases axillary lymph nod

Overexpression of mammaglobin B in epithelial ovarian carcinomas.

OBJECTIVE: Mammaglobin B is a uteroglobin gene family member recently found highly differentially expressed in serous papillary ovarian cancer by gene expression profiling. In order to evaluate its potential as a novel ovarian cancer biomarker, in this study we quantified and compared Mammaglobin B expression in various histologic types of epithelial ovarian carcinomas (EOC). METHODS: Mammaglobin B expression was evaluated by real-time PCR and/or immunohistochemistry in fresh-frozen biopsies and paraffin-embedded tissues derived from a total of 137 patients including 69 primary EOC with diffe

Mammaglobin B may be a prognostic biomarker of uterine corpus endometrial cancer.

Mammaglobin B, also referred to as secretoglobin family 2A member 1 (SCGB2A1), has been reported to be highly expressed in uterine corpus endometrial cancer (UCEC) compared with in the normal endometrium. However, the prognostic value of SCGB2A1 in UCEC remains unclear. The Oncomine, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium databases were used to explore the differential expression of SCGB2A1. Furthermore, data of patients with UCEC were downloaded from TCGA, and logistic regression analysis, survival analysis, univariate and multivariate analyses, and no

Mammaglobin protein localization and gene expression in the salivary glands.

PURPOSE: This study aims to delve deeper into the hypothesis that normal salivary gland tissue expresses both protein and mRNA of mammaglobin (MGB). METHODS: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of submandibular (10), parotid (5), palatal (5) and labial glands (30) salivary glands were immunohistochemically investigated. The labial samples were used to examine the MGB positive ratio (MGB-PR), and localize MGB by double immunofluorescence staining and quantitative mRNA gene expression. [Mammaglobin in peripheral blood and tumor in breast cancer patients].

Currently, no molecular biological markers do exist for early diagnosis of breast cancer. One of the possible candidates for the marker of early breast cancer is mammaglobin (MGB1) or SCGB2A2 (secretoglobin, family 2A, member 2), characterized by the maximal expression level in early breast cancer. Using the RT-PCR method MGB1 mRNA expression was examined in 57 tumor tissue samples and 57 samples of morphologically non-malignant tissue (MNT) of breast cancer (BC) patients. Specificity and sensitivity of the MGB1 mRNA assay in peripheral blood of BC patients was evaluated by nested PCR. 169 blo

Paper-based electrochemical aptasensor using Ti3C2 MXene for sensitive detection of Mammaglobin-A biomarker.

Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. However, early detection of the disease can significantly reduce the mortality rate of cancer patients. The current detection methods of breast cancer are expensive, time consuming, invasive and require professional assistance. To overcome these challenges, a minimally invasive low-cost paper-based point-of-care (POC) electrochemical sensing platform has been developed for early-stage detection of breast cancer. The proposed sensor is fabricated using a screen-printing technique, incor

Mammaglobin-A immunohistochemistry in primary central nervous system neoplasms and intracranial metastatic breast carcinoma.

Metastases represent the most common type of intracranial neoplasm. In women, 30% of such tumors derive from breast carcinoma. In neurosurgical cases with ambiguous cellular morphology and/or limited biopsy material, immunohistochemistry (IHC) is often performed to distinguish metastases from primary central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms. IHC for mammaglobin-A (MGA), a protein expressed in a majority of breast carcinomas, is commonly applied in this setting, but its utility for distinguishing primary CNS neoplasms from metastatic breast carcinoma is unknown; the reactivity of MGA in primary a

Distinguishing breast carcinoma from Müllerian serous carcinoma with mammaglobin and mesothelin.

Differentiation of Müllerian serous carcinoma from metastatic breast carcinoma is a challenging and frequent diagnostic dilemma, particularly in the setting of a pelvic mass or peritoneal carcinomatosis. Precise classification is important as it impacts treatment and prognosis. Antibodies exist that assist with this differential but they are often limited by low sensitivity or specificity. This study evaluated the utility of mesothelin and mammaglobin antibodies in differentiating breast carcinoma (particularly those with a papillary morphology) from Müllerian serous carcinomas. Formalin-fixed

Human mammaglobin transcript amplification for differential diagnosis in a breast cancer metastatic to dura mater.

BACKGROUND: In breast cancer (BC), metastases to the central nervous system usually arise in women with advanced disease. Diagnosis of leptomeningeal (LM) metastasis is based on neurological symptoms, imaging studies and cytological detection of malignant cells in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). However, often these approaches are not sensitive enough to recognize leptomeninges involvement and subsequently to make a diagnosis of LM carcinomatosis. This study investigated the employment of reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for the human mammaglobin (hMAM) gene in a case of

The utility of villin and mammaglobin in the differential diagnosis between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and breast cancer.

Liver metastasis is common for breast cancer. In breast cancer patients, differentiation between metastasis and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is crucial but not always possible, especially when estrogen receptor (ER) is negative. Villin and mammaglobin are gastrointestinal and breast markers, respectively, but were considered not useful in cholangiocarcinoma. The aim of this study was to reevaluate these 2 markers in the differential diagnosis between breast ductal carcinoma and ICC. Fifty-two cases of breast ductal carcinoma (including ER positive and negative, in situ, and invasive c

Expression of mammaglobin and gross cystic disease fluid protein-15 in breast carcinomas.

Immunohistochemical analysis of gross cystic disease fluid protein-15 (GCDFP-15) and mammaglobin (MGB) is frequently used in routine practice for assessment of metastases or regional recurrences of breast origin. Breast cancer is highly heterogeneous. Expression of these 2 markers in various breast cancer subtypes has not been well studied. In addition, the usefulness of these two markers in combination in detecting breast origin has not been explored. In this study, a large cohort of breast cancers was evaluated for GCDFP-15 and MGB expression, both individually and combined. Their expression

Expression of mammaglobins A and B in nasal polyps is similar in patients with and without allergic rhinitis.

BACKGROUND: The causes of nasal polyposis remain unclear. Mammaglobins have been implicated in its pathogenesis. However, their association with the occurrence of nasal polyps in the presence of allergic rhinitis (AR) has not been explored. The aim of this study was to compare the expression levels of mammaglobins A and B with the nasal polyps of patients with and without AR. METHODS: Thirty-one patients with bilateral nasal polyposis underwent skin-prick tests to specific aeroallergens. Nasal polyp tissues were obtained from all patients and divided into two groups as nasal polyps with and w

Diagnostic utility of mammaglobin and GCDFP-15 in the identification of metastatic breast carcinoma in fluid specimens.

Morphologic differentiation of breast carcinoma from nonmammary malignancies in fluid specimens can be a diagnostic challenge. Immunocytochemistry is often employed in the differential diagnosis. In this study, we evaluated the expression of mammoglobin (MGB1) in body-cavity fluid specimens and compared its efficacy as a marker for metastatic breast carcinomas with that of gross cystic disease fluid protein-15 (GCDFP-15). Cell blocks from 40 fluid specimens were immunostained with monoclonal antibodies against MGB1 and GCDFP-15. They included 15 breast carcinomas and 25 nonmammary carcinomas (

Mammaglobin expression in the female genital tract: immunohistochemical analysis in benign and neoplastic endocervix and endometrium.

Mammaglobin (MGB), a secretory protein belonging to the uteroglobin/Clara cell protein family, is a sensitive marker for breast carcinoma, but is also reported to be expressed in the female genital tract and its neoplasms. Details of MGB expression pattern and its pathologic significance in the female genital tract have not been systematically studied. To investigate the potential use of MGB in gynecologic pathology practice, we tested MGB expression by immunohistochemistry on 47 endocervical adenocarcinomas (whole tissue sections of 13 invasive and 35 in situ) and 55 endometrial carcinomas (3

Mammaglobin-A Expression Is Highly Specific for Tumors Derived from the Breast, the Female Genital Tract, and the Salivary Gland.

Human mammaglobin-A (SCGB2A2) is a secretory protein with an unknown function that is used as a diagnostic marker for breast cancer. However, other tumors can also express mammaglobin-A. To comprehensively study patterns of mammaglobin-A expression, a tissue microarray containing 16,328 samples from 128 different tumor types as well as 608 samples of 76 different normal tissue types was analyzed using immunohistochemistry. Mammaglobin-A positivity was found in only a few normal tissues, including luminal cells of the breast as well as endocervical and endometrial glands. In tumor tissues, 37 o

Combining mammaglobin and carcinoembryonic mRNA markers for early detection of micrometastases from breast cancers--a molecular study of 59 patients.

INTRODUCTION: As many as 30% of node-negative breast cancer patients relapse within five years, suggesting that current histological detection methods are inadequate for identifying metastatic disease. Detecting small number of cancer cells in the breast tissue or lymph node by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays using a combination of tissue and cancer specific markers might be very useful in the early detection or monitoring of the treatment. Mammaglobin is a member of the uteroglobin gene family and appears to be expressed only in breast tissue. Carcinoembryonic
