Is the presence of accessory mandibular canals associated with the dimensions of the mandibular canal?

AIM: The aim of this study is to classify accessory mandibular canals (AMC) and investigate their association with the dimensions of the mandibular canal (MC) to enhance surgical planning and prevent complications in dental treatments. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were evaluated. AMC's frequency, length, and diameter, including dental, superior, inferior, forward-open, forward-closed, and retromolar types, were determined. Additionally, the dimensions of the MC, including its length and diameter, were measured, and the relationship between the AMC and MC was statistica

Morphology of the mandibular canal and the angulation between the mandibular and mental canals in dry skulls.

The aim of this study was to analyse the correlation between external and internal mandibular morphology in adult or adolescent normal anthropological mandibles. Lateral radiographs of 31 symmetrical mandibles were analysed. The external morphology was defined by the gonial and beta-angles. In order to analyse internal morphology, a metallic pin was placed in the mental canal on the left side before radiography. The angle between the mental and the mandibular canals was termed the 'mental angle' and that expressing the curvature of the mandibular canal, the 'mandibular angle'. Spearman correla

Ectopic Tooth in Mandibular Canal, Maxillary Sinus, and Mandibular Condyle.

Eruption of tooth into place other than tooth-bearing region is defined as ectopic eruption. Although ectopic eruption of tooth is rare, there have been cases in the maxillary sinus, mandibular condyle, nasal cavity, chin, palate, and orbital floor. Due to ectopic teeth's rarity and lack of consensus for ıts treatment, incidence was entitled to be added to literature and discussed. It was reported that odontogenic tumors and cysts can develop around the ectopic tooth. Thus, ectopic teeth can be followed up regularly in case of no signs and symptoms. If the patient has unusual orofacial pain, u

Preparation of the lingual canal in mandibular first premolar with canal bifurcation.

The aim of this study was to establish an effective method of locating and negotiating the lingual canal in mandibular first premolars with two canals during root canal preparation. A total of 125 mandibular first premolars with radicular grooves were collected, and after micro-computed tomography scanning, 50 mandibular first premolars with a Vertucci V/III canal form were selected based on the inclusion criteria. Access cavities were prepared, and the lingual canals (LCs) were searched in four following steps: step 1 direct vision and a straight K-file; step 2 stereomicroscopy and a straight

Diagnosis and root canal treatment in a mandibular premolar with three canals.

This paper presents a case report of a left mandibular second premolar with three canals and three different apical foramina. A 39-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with pain in the mandibular left second premolar. Initially, pain was caused by cold stimulus and later was spontaneously. The intraoral clinical examination revealed a fractured amalgam restoration with occlusal caries. Percussion and cold (Endo-Frost) tests were positive. The radiographic examination showed the presence of two roots. The probable diagnosis was an acute pulpitis. After access cavity, it was observed re

Mandibular molar with five root canals.

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the importance of knowledge of the internal anatomy of root canals for the success of endodontic treatment. Lack of knowledge of anatomic variations and their characteristics in different teeth has been pointed out as one of the main causes of endodontic therapy failure. In this report, the authors describe the endodontic treatment of a mandibular first molar with five root canals, evaluate the rate of occurrence of this number of canals, and discuss the importance of their identification and treatment.

Mandibular first premolar with four canals.

A case of endodontic treatment of a mandibular first premolar exhibiting a total of four distinct root canals and four apical foramina is described. This occurrence in mandibular first premolar has rarely been reported in the endodontic literature. Endodontic treatment that considers the anatomic variation of root canal morphology is important to ensure a favorable healing outcome, and its identification could be enhanced by careful examination using a dental operating microscope. Obturation of root canals using a warm vertical compaction technique with a highly-radiopaque root canal sealer, s

Mandibular incisive canal: cone beam computed tomography.

PURPOSE: Panoramic radiography is often used to analyze the anatomical structure of the teeth, jaws, and temporomandibular joints. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging allows multiple axial slices of the image to be obtained through these anatomical structures. The aim of this study was to assess CBCT compared with panoramic radiography to verify the presence, location, and dimensions of the mandibular incisive canal. MATERIALS AND METHODS: CBCT scan images and panoramic radiographs of 89 subjects were compared for the presence of the mandibular incisive canal, its location, size, and

Auditory canal haemorrhage following mandibular condylar fracture.

A case of haemorrhage from the external auditory meatus associated with condylar fracture is presented. It is important that haemorrhage from the ear following maxillofacial injuries be investigated thoroughly because displacement of the condyle into the middle cranial fossa also presents in this manner. The patient was treated by intermaxillary fixation and packing of the auditory canal. Packing is not only effective for haemostasis but is also important in preventing subsequent stenosis of the auditory canal.

Ectopic Dental Canal: A Case Report Highlighting a Unique Bifid Mandibular Canal Variant.

Bifid mandibular canals are common anatomical findings with variations based on direction and location of branching, which carry significant clinical implications for endodontic and surgical dental procedures. This case report describes a previously unreported ectopic dental canal that branches off the superior border of the mandibular canal, enters the apex of a mandibular second molar, traverses through the root, anastomoses with the root canal system, and subsequently exits through the lingual aspect of the root. The anastomosis of this ectopic dental canal with the mesial lingual canal led

[Bifid and trifid mandibular canal. A coincidental finding].

A 26-year-old man was suffering from pericoronitis of his mandibular third molars. To determine the position of the mandibular canal in relation to the roots of the third molars, a panoramic radiograph was made. The radiograph revealed at the right side a bifid mandibular canal and the upper part of the canal seemed to be related to the third molar. Additionally, a cone beam CT was made, which revealed a bifid mandibular canal at the left side and a trifid mandibular canal at the right side. Anatomical anomalies of the mandibular canal may have clinical implications, such as an increased risk
