A 32-year-old man had photophobia and blurred vision 2 weeks after uneventful laser in situ keratomileusis to correct myopia. He was treated with steroids for suspected diffuse lamellar keratitis, antiherpetics, and antibiotic eyedrops, but the condition worsened and the patient developed further blurred vision, an inflamed eye, and pain. When referred to us, the patient had an extensive corneal ulcer with hypopyon and mycelia were reported in scrapings of the ulcer bed. Nattrassia mangiferae (Hendersonula toruloidea) was cultured from the specimen. The patient was treated with antifungal agen

Nattrassia mangiferae formerly known as Hendersonula toruloidea, is a phaeoid coelomycete described by Nattrass in 1933. We report five cases of N. mangiferae infections in São Paulo, Brazil. This fungus was isolated from interdigital lesions on the feet in one patient, toenails in three cases and fingernails in the other one. The infections were initially considered to be caused by a dermatophyte. Although there are only a few cases described in the medical literature, the five cases reported suggest that N. mangiferae should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of tinea

Mangifera indica is widely found in Brazil, and its leaves are used as an anti-inflammatory agent in folk medicine. The aim of this study is to perform composition analysis of essential oils from the M. indica varieties, espada (EOMIL1) and coração de boi (EOMIL2), and confirm their anti-inflammatory properties. Twenty-three volatile compounds were identified via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in two essential oils from the leaves. Paw edema and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were evaluated using the carrageenan-induced paw model, while leukocyte migration was analyzed using the

INTRODUCTION: The most common clinical manifestation of mango allergy is contact dermatitis, which can be localized or systemic. The sensitising substances that have long been suspected are alk(en)yl catechols and/or alk(en)yl resorcinols.
METHODS: We reviewed the original articles published on Pubmed, Embase and Cochrane Library before 15 September 2021, on the topic of contact allergy induced by mango and we synthesized the key data.
RESULTS: We found 12 case reports and four case series, with a total of 37 patients. Only seven of these cases were reported in patients from mango-cultivatin

OBJECTIVE: The mango tree Mangifera indica is known as one of the botanical sources of propolis in Tropical regions. There are two different materials which bees can collect from a mango tree to produce propolis: the resin of the tree bark, and the latex found on the fruits. We performed the study of the chemical profile of mango resin in comparison with propolis in order to clarify its importance as propolis source.
RESULTS: We compared the chemical profiles (by GC-MS analysis of ethanol extracts after silylation) of the resin and samples of propolis: of stingless bees (3 Vietnames, 2 Indone

Mango (Mangifera indica L.), commonly known as the "king of fruits", has been cultivated in South Asia for thousands of years. Its barks are a rich source of naturally occurring phytochemicals, such as benzophenones, phenolic acids, and sterols. Meanwhile, mango has been commonly used as a traditional Chinese medicine for inflammation-related diseases. In this study, phytochemicals in the barks of mango have been carried out and twenty-two benzophenones, including eight undescribed compounds were isolated and purified. Their structures were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic method

Parasitic infections remain a major global health challenge, particularly in resource-limited settings where they are closely tied to poverty and inadequate sanitation. The increasing emergence of drug resistance and the limited accessibility of current therapies highlight the urgent need for novel, safe, and affordable alternatives. Mangifera indica L. (mango), a widely cultivated fruit tree deeply rooted in traditional medicine, has long been used to treat conditions symptomatic of parasitic diseases, including fever, diarrhea, and dysentery. Phytochemical investigations have revealed a rich

Antipathogenic drugs are a potential source of therapeutics, particularly following the emergence of multiple drug-resistant pathogenic microorganisms in the last decade. The inhibition of quorum sensing (QS) is an advanced antipathogenic approach for suppression of bacterial virulence and dissemination. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of some Egyptian medicinal plants on the QS signaling system of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Among the tested plants, Mangifera indica exhibited the highest quorum sensing inhibition (QSI) activity against Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472. F

This work aims to investigate the dynamics of water loss (WL) and solute gain (SG) during dehydration impregnation by immersion (D2I) and intermittent immersion (D3I). WL and SG of mango slices, 4 × 1 × 1 cm3 in size, during dehydration immersion impregnation (D2I) and dehydration impregnation by intermittent immersion (D3I) were determined at 35, 45 and 55 °C for 270 min. Mango slices were immersed in a hypertonic sucrose solution of (61.6 ± 0.2) °Brix at a ratio of 6 mL of hypertonic solution per gram of fruit. Five semi-empirical models, two of which have been modified, were used to study

Several sensitive bioactive substances are potent antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals but are often rapidly degraded, limiting their effectiveness. Encapsulating these substances in liposomes improves their bioavailability and solubility and protects them from harmful environmental factors. The influence of liposomes as advanced lipid nanocarriers is increasing enormously due to their remarkable properties and protection of bioactive substances. For this reason, mango (Mangifera indica L.) peel extract (MPE), previously characterized and rich in various natural substances, in

Fruit tree plantations have a pivotal role in regulating the microclimate and physical environment of a region. Contribution of forestry species in carbon sequestration and as carbon sinks has been well documented. However, meager attention has been paid to reveal the contribution of fruit tree species. Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is an important fruit tree crop of tropical and subtropical regions of the world, grown in more than 100 countries. With an annual production of 20,946 thousand metric tons (MT), a 2,371 thousand ha area is under mango cultivation in India alone. To assess the carbon

Mangoes (Mangifera indica L.) are an important kind of perennial fruit tree, but their biochemical testing method and transformation technology were insufficient and had not been rigorously explored. The protoplast technology is an excellent method for creating a rapid and effective tool for transient expression and transformation assays, particularly in plants that lack an Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation system. This study optimized the conditions of the protoplast isolation and transformation system, which can provide a lot of help in the gene expression regulation study of mango
