Extraction of mannan oligosaccharides from the yeast cell wall and methods of deproteinization were studied. We extracted crude mannan oligosaccharides by the dilute alkali-Sevage method. The percentages of deproteinization and mannan oligosaccharide loss were compared as indexes using the Sevage method, trichloroacetic acid method, and hydrochloric acid method. The results showed that the hydrochloric acid method exhibited the highest percentage of deproteinization, but only a little higher percentage of mannan oligosaccharide loss than the other two methods.

Mannan-binding lectin (MBL) was first discovered as a plasma opsonin for baker's yeast and was independently characterized biochemically. It belongs to the small subfamily of collectins: C-type lectins possessing a collagen-like domain. MBL is synthesized by the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. The involvement of mannan-binding lectin (MBL) insufficiency in the pathogenesis of chronic gastritis (CG) in children was investigated. INTRODUCTION: Timely diagnosis of invasive candidiasis (IC) remains difficult as the clinical presentation is not specific and blood cultures lack sensitivity and need a long incubation time. Myeloid C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) are innate immune recognition molecules that bind to microorganisms via their carbohydrate recognition domains.
