Young adult ferrets were immunized with measles vaccine and 5 to 6 weeks later inoculated intracerebrally with Vero cells persistently infected with cell-associated strain D.R. of measles virus isolated from a patient with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Monomers of N-hydroxypyridine-2(1H)-thione were isolated in low-temperature matrices of solid normal hydrogen (n-H2). The matrix-isolated compound was irradiated with UV-B (λ = 305 nm) or UV-A (λ > 360 nm) light. Sera with anti-mitochondrial autoantibodies detected by indirect immunofluorescence and/or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were examined by immunoblotting against pig heart mitochondria. A case of anaphylaxis following a bite from a Siberian hamster (SH; Phodopus sungorus) is described. Skin prick tests with hair, urine and salivary gland extracts from SH were positive, while the tests were negative for hair extracts from other rodents. Undulin, a novel noncollagenous extracellular matrix protein, was isolated from skin and placenta. In polyacrylamide gels most of the unreduced protein migrates with Mr above 1,000,000 yielding bands A (Mr 270,000), B1 (Mr 190,000), and B2 (Mr 180,000) after reduction. Biopsied coronal dentin was studied in 50 permanent teeth in healthy individuals and patients with caries and pulpitis. Valent undulations of functional groups of protein matrix of dentin were studied. The characteristic absorption bands reflecting the chemical links stabilizing the protein molecular structure were determined. The course of chemical links changes was followed in caries and pulpitis which suggested the increased pathological changes in the organic matrix of coronal dentin.
