Humic compounds were determined in sediments collected in an area of the Adriatic sea receiving fresh waters from the river Po. Sediment cores (10 cm) were sectioned into four layers which were analysed separately for redox potential (Eh), total phosphorus (TP), total organic carbon (TOC), humic (HA) and fulvic acid (FA) content. The structure of HA and FA was also investigated. The results showed that the TOC and TP content decreased from the coast to the open-sea stations. Seabather's eruption (SBE) is an acute dermatitis characterized clinically by erythematous papules located almost exclusively under a bathing suit. SBE is caused by contact on the skin by the jellyfish, Linuche unguiculata (L. unguiculata). BACKGROUND: Several species of jellyfish native to the western Indian Ocean have entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. Since the late 1980s, each summer Rhopilema nomadica forms swarms as long as 100 km in the southeastern Levant and since the millennium aggregations of additional nonnative jellyfish have been sighted. Mediterranean loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) are very large. During spawning season, they land on the beaches of Turkey and Greece at night, which are frequently visited by humans, and lay their eggs. Typically, they suck feed in deep water. Marine Protected Areas are essential tools for enhancing population persistence and supporting fisheries through larval dispersal. This study investigates the occurrence of anisakids and raphidascarids in commercial fish from Balearic Sea (Western Mediterranean). A total of 335 fish including 19 black anglerfish (Lophius budegassa), 33 white anglerfish (L. piscatorius), 129 European hake (Merluccius merluccius), 30 red mullet (Mullus barbatus), and 124 striped mullet (M. surmuletus) were examined using enzymatic digestion. We present a statistical analysis of deep-water buoy measurements of large waves generated during two major storms of the Eastern Mediterranean in 2017 and 2018, respectively. The largest waves observed do display similar characteristics to those of the Draupner, Andrea, and El Faro rogue waves in that second order bound nonlinearities enhance the linear dispersive focusing of extreme waves. Polyandrocarpa arianae n. sp. was collected repeatedly by trawls deeper than 90m from several parts of the Mediterranean Sea. It is described and compared to the shallow species Polyandrocarpa zorritensis (Van Name, 1931) considered as invasive in the Mediterranean Sea. Among the colonial Styelidae the other species which belong to the same genus differ by the colony and zooid shape, the presence/absence of endocarps and of a caecum in the gut loop and by the location and structure of the polycarps.

Concentrations of mercury and methylmercury residues were determined in the muscle tissue of three cartilaginous fishes Chimaera monstrosa (ghostshark), Torpedo nobiliana (electric ray) and Myliobatis aquila (eagle ray) from the Mediterranean Sea.
