There is limited literature analyzing the outcome of human poisoning with methomyl and cypermethrin pesticide mixture. Between 2002 and 2018, a total of 63 patients intoxicated with methomyl, cypermethrin, or their pesticide mixture were treated at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. The patients were categorized into three groups based on the type of pesticide, as methomyl (n = 10), cypermethrin (n = 31), or methomyl and cypermethrin (n = 22). BACKGROUND: Methomyl is the most common cause of suicidal death but heroin is the most common cause of accidental death. The problem is to determine the exact cause and manner of death between methomyl or heroin toxicity. Methomyl is a widely available carbamate pesticide that acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Here, we describe 5 cases of methomyl poisoning in dogs. The main gross and microscopic findings included pulmonary edema and multisystemic congestion and hemorrhages, which were most severe in the respiratory tract. An aerial-spray pilot died when his aircraft crashed while he was spraying methomyl. We measured the pesticide in his blood by gas chromatography with flame photometric detection and confirmed the results by mass spectrometry with direct liquid injection through a liquid chromatography interface. On February 21, 2013, 6 elderly people collapsed abruptly after eating bean sprout bibimbab (boiled rice mixed with bean sprouts and seasoned with soybean sauce) at a countryside restaurant in the Chungbuk Province, Korea.
