Nutritional Requirements of Microbacterium thermosphactum.

Microbacterium thermosphactum requires cysteine, alpha-lipoate, nicotinate, pantothenate, p-aminobenzoate, biotin, and thiamin for aerobic growth in glucose-mineral salts medium. Glucose cannot be replaced by Casamino Acids or acids of the tricarboxylic acid cycle as sole carbon and energy sources. The organism can also grow anaerobically in the minimal synthetic medium.

Bacteremia due to a novel Microbacterium species in a patient with leukemia and description of Microbacterium paraoxydans sp. nov.

A yellow-pigmented coryneform rod was isolated from the blood of a child with acute lymphoblastic leukemia who was perfused with a central venous catheter. The culture bottles were positive twice, at a 2-month interval. The isolate was identified as a Microbacterium sp. and studied along with five other similar strains. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, and genetic characteristics indicated that they are closely related to Microbacterium oxydans but that they belong to a distinct species, for which the name Microbacterium paraoxydans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of M. paraoxydans is CF36(T)

Carotenoids from UV-resistant Antarctic Microbacterium sp. LEMMJ01.

The Microbacterium sp. LEMMJ01 isolated from Antarctic soil does not belong to any of the nearest species identified in the RDP database. Under UV radiation (A, B and C wavebands) the survival fractions of Microbacterium sp. cells were much higher compared with wild-type E. coli K12A15. Especially remarkable for an Antarctic bacterium, an expressive resistance against high UV-B doses was observed. The increased survival of DNA repair-proficient E. coli grown overnight added of 0.1 mg/ml or 1 mg/ml of the whole pigment extract produced by Microbacterium sp. revealed that part of the resistance

Microbacterium resistens Peritoneal Dialysis-Associated Peritonitis: A Case Report.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD)-associated peritonitis is most commonly caused by Gram-positive organisms; however, infections due to unusual pathogens can present important diagnostic and management challenges. Microbacterium resistens is an environmental Gram-positive bacillus rarely implicated in human infections, and PD-associated peritonitis due to this organism has been reported only once previously, to our knowledge. We report a case of persistent PD-associated peritonitis caused by M resistens in a 65-year-old man receiving automated PD combined with once-weekly hemodialysis. The initial epis

Microbacterium diaminobutyricum sp. nov., isolated from Halimione portulacoides, which contains diaminobutyric acid in its cell wall, and emended description of the genus Microbacterium.

Three actinobacterial strains were isolated from roots of the salt-marsh plant Halimione portulacoides collected in Ria de Aveiro, Portugal. Molecular typing using enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus ERIC-PCR fingerprinting showed the strains to be highly similar. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence and multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) using gyrB, rpoB, recA and ppk and 16S rRNA genes sequences showed that the strains represented a member of the genus Microbacterium, with Microbacterium lacus DSM 18910T as the closest phylogenetic relative. Bacteroides fragilis and Microbacterium as Microbial Signatures in Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and alopecia areata (AA) are organ-specific autoimmune diseases that frequently co-occur, suggesting shared immunological and microbial pathways. The gut microbiome has emerged as a key modulator of immune function, yet disease-specific microbial signatures remain poorly defined. Fecal samples from 51 participants (HT: n = 16, AA: n = 17, healthy controls: n = 18) aged 18-65 years were analyzed using shotgun metagenomic sequencing followed by multivariate statistical analyses. While alpha and beta diversity did not differ significantly across groups, taxonomic prof

Persistent bacteremia caused by Ralstonia pickettii and Microbacterium: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ralstonia pickettii is a low virulent, gram-negative bacillus that is rarely associated with human infections and may cause bacteremia. Microbacterium species are gram-positive coryneforms that are generally considered as a contaminant in Gram staining of blood cultures, especially when the time to positivity is longer than 48 h. Both these bacterial species are emerging opportunistic pathogens that may occasionally cause serious infections and even life-threatening health conditions. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report the case of a patient with bacteremia caused by both R. picket

Identification and characterization of a novel (+)-γ-lactamase from Microbacterium hydrocarbonoxydans.

2-Azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-3-one (γ-lactam) is an important precursor of many carbocyclic nucleoside analogs and pharmaceuticals. (-)-γ-Lactam has attracted much attention because of its role as an intermediate of antiviral drugs such as abacavir and carbovir. (+)-γ-Lactamase can be used for the kinetic resolution of γ-lactam to obtain (-)-γ-lactam. In this study, a novel (+)-γ-lactamase (Mh33H4-5540) was discovered from the gene library of Microbacterium hydrocarbonoxydans based on a colorimetric high-throughput screening method and it could be used to enantioselectively catalyze the biores

Fish tank granuloma not associated to Mycobacterium marinum but to Microbacterium paraoxydans.

Fish tank granuloma has traditionally been associated with Mycobacterium marinum. We report the case of a 54 old-year woman that worked in a freshwater fish pet store and developed a skin ulcer in a hand finger with a suppurative granuloma secondary to Microbacterium paraoxydans. This is a bacterial fish pathogen, rarely observed in human infections. Identification was performed by colony morphology and MALDI-TOF. She evolved satisfactorily after receiving a sequential treatment with beta-lactams and linezolid. To our knowledge, it is the first known description of this type.

Case Series: Microbacterium aurum Bacteremia in Immunosuppressed Patients-An Emerging Threat.

Blood stream infection with Microbacterium species in humans is rare and frequently linked to the presence of immunosuppressed conditions such as patients on chemotherapy or corticosteroids. Presence of indwelling catheters is also a potential risk factor for M. aurum infection. No case report has been documented in the literature regarding the pathogenic potential of M. aurum in causing bacteremia. This is the first case series reporting bacteremia by M. aurum describing the risk factors and sensitivity pattern of this pathogen. In this case series, we have described bacteremia caused by M. a

Genomic and spectroscopic analysis for antimicrobial metabolite profiling of Microbacterium testaceum endophyte.

Wild plants harbor distinct endophytes that produce potent antimicrobial metabolites that can be used to combat life-threatening pathogens. In our study, four bacterial endophytes (LP1, LP2, LP3, LP4) were isolated from the inner tissues of leaves of Pluchea dioscoridis (L.) DC (Barnûf). The antimicrobial activity of the respective extracts (P1, P2, P3, and P4) against standard, multidrug-resistant (MDR), and Candida albicans was determined using the cup agar diffusion method. The P4 extract showed broad-spectrum activity against all tested pathogens and promising antiviral activity. The endop

Manipulation of rhizosphere microbiome by Microbacterium sp. GB16_1_BI to promote plant growth.

AIM: The bioinoculant properties of a newly identified ammonium-releasing novel strain of Actinomycetota-Microbacterium bengalense sp. nov. GB16_1_BI (Accession number: SRX9280401) on the microbiome structure of rice rhizosphere were assessed. METHODS AND RESULT: GB16_1_BI may inhibit most bacteria present in the rice rhizosphere as well as encouraged the growth of rare bacteria specific to the waterlogged rice rhizosphere. The genome sequence as well as untargeted metabolome analyses of GB16_1_BI showed abundance of secondary metabolites with probable antimicrobial activity. Amplicon sequenc

Biodegradation of polystyrene and polyethylene by Microbacterium esteraromaticum SW3 isolated from soil.

Plastic pollution is a common concern of global environmental pollution. Polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE) account for almost one-third of global plastic production. However, so far, there have been few reports on microbial strains capable of simultaneously degrading PS and PE. In this study, Microbacterium esteraromaticum SW3, a non-pathogenic microorganism that can use PS or PE as the only carbon source in the mineral salt medium (MM), was isolated from plastics-contaminated soil and identified. The optimal growth conditions for SW3 in MM were 2% (w/v) PS or 2% (w/v) PE, 35°C and pH 6.3

Exogenous coproporphyrin III production by Corynebacterium aurimucosum and Microbacterium oxydans in erythrasma lesions.

Erythrasma is a superficial skin disease caused by Gram-positive Corynebacterium species. Coral-red fluorescence under Wood's light, strongly suggestive of erythrasma, can be attributed to the presence of porphyrins. Fractionated porphyrin analysis in erythrasma lesions is yet to be reported. We attempted to investigate erythrasma lesions by isolating the responsible bacteria and determining their exogenous porphyrin production by HPLC analysis. We observed a 78-year-old woman with erythrasma who had a well-demarcated slightly scaling patch on her left foot, between the fourth and fifth toes.
