The case of a 45 years old woman with lipoatrophia semicircularis is presented showing a typical semicircular depressions of the anterolateral aspects of the thighs. The lesion regressed after avoiding the pressing of the thighs against the desk edge. A PubMed search disclosed 125 cases of lipoatrophia semicircularis reported in details. More then 90% were middle aged women. Repeated external microtraumatisms was the most common cause. The few cases biopsied revealed a localized lipoatrophy. Avoiding microtraumatisms resulted in a complete remission of lipoatrophia semicircularis in most cases

INTRODUCTION: Carotid artery dissections may occur in severe trauma such as motor vehicle accidents or may also develop due to minor trauma. We aimed to present a case with internal carotid artery dissection that referred to the pediatric neurology department due to speech impairment after minor shoulder trauma.
CASE: A previously healthy 10-year-old male patient was admitted to the pediatric emergency clinic due to headache, vomiting and speech impairment. In his story, we learned that he had bumped shoulder to shoulder with his friend about 6 h ago. He did not fall or hit his head. On his a

A large subcutaneous hematoma extending from the breastbone region to the left axillary region and left flank developed in a 86-year-old anticoagulated man because of repeated microtrauma from a physical restraint used to prevent his rising from a chair. Physicians, nurses, and physiotherapists should recognize that physical restraints causing pressure on the skin increase hemorrhagic risk in patients who take low molecular weight heparin. Accordingly, they should systematically check for hemorrhagic complications and attempt to limit the use of such devices.

Rotator cuff injuries in sports are usually a result of microtrauma from repetitive movements. Classic, or primary, impingement results directly from overhead motions, and secondary impingement is related to underlying shoulder instability. A variety of physical maneuvers are used to assess pain, muscle weakness, and shoulder stability. The workup also includes plain x-rays, supplemented by other imaging tests if a cuff tear is suspected. Nonoperative treatment, which may include steroid injections, is often effective for an inflamed rotator cuff tendon. Surgery is indicated if the patient has

In acute thrombosis of the subclavian and axillar vein--known in the literature as Paget-von-Schroetter syndrome--skin can also be involved if no treatment is provided. The skin lesions resemble stasis dermatitis seen in chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremity. The specific role of intima lesions of the subclavian vein caused by microtraumas is discussed because the Paget-von-Schroetter-syndrome is mainly seen in physically hard working men.

Patellofemoral pain syndrome is a common problem that occurs in association with mild malalignment of the extensor mechanism of the knee or as a result of repetitive microtrauma from overuse. Patients most often present with retropatellar or peripatellar knee pain, which becomes especially noticeable when they climb or descend stairs. The diagnosis is usually made from the history and the physical examination, with relatively little information gained from other diagnostic aids. Treatment involves physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication and the application of ice. In most patients, surg

We report two cases of cystic adventitial degeneration of the popliteal artery in young sportsmen. The pathogenetic role of microtrauma is suggested by the localisation of the adventitial cysts, the clinical symptoms, as well as the immunohistochemical demonstration of foamy macrophages instead of endothelial cells in the wall of the cysts. In one case the cause of the intermittent claudication could be verified by duplex sonography and comparison of the arterial pressure of both legs with a Doppler method only after physical exercise. As expected, an angiodilatation has only a temporary effec

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Pachydermodactyly is a rare, benign fibromatosis located around the proximal interphalangeal joints. It is often misdiagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis and may cause unnecessary treatments and anxiety in patients. The goal of this paper is to describe this condition through all the existing information in the scientific literature.
METHOD: A systematic review and a descriptive study have been conducted. A systematic research was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and WOS.
RESULTS: Pachydermodactyly was four times more frequent in male subjects and u

The term nonarticular rheumatism covers a hetereogeneous group of diseases affecting the fatty tissue, periarticular tissue and muscles that often also appears, combined, in the form of peri-arthropathies. Without a doubt, the greatest importance attaches to the tendomyoses, which are characterized by spontaneous pain, in particular tenderness to touch, that appears at classical localisations. The most common causes are misalignment, microtrauma, overstraining, and occasionally internistic diseases. In many cases, the genesis is multifactorial, psychological factors also being involved. Microinstability, characterized by subtle and often painful disturbances in joint stability, significantly impacts individuals engaged in activities requiring extensive ranges of motion, such as dancing or gymnastics, and is particularly prevalent in young female athletes. This condition, resulting from progressive microtrauma, architectural and functional abnormalities, or iatrogenic factors, is challenging to diagnose and often underreported. Understanding the biomechanical nuances of microinstability is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective management. Upper limb joints, including

Shin pain is a common complaint in adolescent athletes. The term "shin splints" has historically been applied to these patients. Shin splints, more often than not, refers to a stress reaction of the tibia from overuse. Overuse injuries occur when repetitive microtrauma to the bone exceeds the biologic healing potential. Diagnosis is based on typical history and physical examination findings. Plain radiographs and advanced imaging are rarely necessary but can provide valuable prognostic information. Treatment consists of adequate rest and exercise modification. Time to return to sport depends o

Along with resurgence of physical activity during these fitness conscious times, there is increasing participation by people of all ages in sporting activities. Enrollment in organized and recreational sports among young adults and children has increased with as many as 30% of adolescents participating in competitive high school athletics. Despite improvements in equipment, the number of sports-related injuries presenting for medical attention has increased. Injuries to the upper extremities account for more than 25% of all sports-related injuries, but receive disproportionately less attention

Acute compartment syndromes usually occur as a complication of major trauma. While the chronic exertional anterior tibial compartment syndrome is well described in the sports medicine literature, reports of acute tibial compartment syndromes due to physical exertion, or repetitive microtrauma, are rare. The case of an adolescent female who developed an acute anterior compartment syndrome from running in a soccer game is described in this report. Failure to recognize the onset of an acute exertional compartment syndrome may lead to treatment delay and serious complications. Whereas the chronic

A 41-year-old male kickboxer presented with bilateral, macular, red skin discoloration around the ankles, fading proximally and exhibiting a sharp linear demarcation above the lateral malleoli. The discoloration was more pronounced medially and on the right side. Histology revealed spongiosis, intraepidermal and papillary dermal erythrocytes, and perivascular lymphocytic inflammation, confirming the diagnosis of pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD). Repetitive microtrauma from kickboxing likely contributed to capillary fragility, compounded by exercise-induced inflammation and increased venous

INTRODUCTION: Onychomadesis occurs when the nail plate separates from the nail matrix and nail bed, eventually leading to shedding of the nail. This condition has been attributed to viral infections, autoimmune disorders, drug side effects, and physical trauma. A subset of patients has a recurrent form of onychomadesis without a clear trigger; this phenomenon is not well characterized in the literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case series of pediatric and adult patients with recurrent toenail onychomadesis in order to better characterize the disorder and explore possible etiologies, r

Hand is frequently the site of work accidents or occupational diseases. The musculoskeletal upper limb is the first recognized occupational disease and carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common of them. The most common location of occupational dermatoses is the hand. Their causes are often multifactorial, involving chemical irritants, physical, allergens and endogenous factors (mainly atopic dermatitis). Occupational exposure to microtrauma and iterative use of vibrating tools may also be the cause of hypothenar hammer syndrome and acrosyndromes. The frequent chronicity and functional impairme

Freiberg's disease, or osteonecrosis of the second metatarsal head, is an uncommon cause of forefoot pain that can severely limit a dancer's relevé. Dancers may be predisposed to the condition due to repetitive microtrauma to the ball of the foot during routine dance movements. Freiberg's disease is diagnosed by history, physical examination, and plain film radiographs. Conservative treatment in dancers is disappointing, and surgical options fail to produce uniformly good results. Previously published reports of successful surgical outcomes would, for a dancer, result in an unacceptable loss o

The runner is especially at risk for development of injury to the hip and pelvis secondary to chronic repetitive microtrauma. The key to treatment is establishing complete and accurate diagnosis, and, in particular, identifying the functional biomechanical deficits in the kinetic chain that contribute to this repetitive microtrauma. A long-term successful outcome and prevention of reinjury are more likely if the focus of rehabilitation is on the restoration of the functional kinetic chain, rather than on a specific injured tissue. For example, the typical treatment of "iliotibial band syndrome

Ankle sprain is amongst the most frequent musculoskeletal injuries, particularly during sports activities. Chronic ankle instability (CAI) resulting from an ankle sprain might have severe long-lasting consequences on the ankle joint. Despite the fact that most patients will respond favourably to appropriate conservative treatment, around 20% will develop symptomatic CAI with sense of giving away and recurrent sprains leading to functional impairment. "Classical" surgical repair by Brostrom-like surgery in one of its many modifications has achieved good results over the years. Recently, major a

Paget-Schroetter syndrome (PSS), which is also called "effort thrombosis," is a venous variant of thoracic outlet syndrome. We report a rare case of upper-limb deep venous thrombosis (ULDVT) in a young patient who was later diagnosed as PSS. PSS is a rare cause of ULDVT, and it is usually seen in young adults who are involved in strenuous physical activity. PSS is either due to anatomical abnormality of the thoracic outlet or due to repeated microtrauma to the endothelium of the subclavian/axillary vein. Clinically, the patient usually presents with signs and symptoms of ULDVT. Noninvasive Dop
