Antiprotozoal compounds from Mikania periplocifolia (Asteraceae).

Chagas disease, African trypanosomiasis and Leishmaniasis are neglected parasitic diseases which affect millions of people worldwide. In a previous work, we report the antiprotozoal activity of the dichloromethane extract of Mikania periplocifolia Hook. & Arn. (Asteraceae). The aim of this work was to isolate and identify the bioactive compounds present in the extract. The fractionation of the dichloromethane extract has led to the isolation of the sesquiterpene lactone miscandenin and the flavonoid onopordin, together with the sesquiterpene lactones mikanolide, dihydromikanolide and deoxymika

Research on the antipruritic active ingredients of Mikania micrantha.

Mikania micrantha is a perennial liana of the genus Mikania of the Asteraceae family. It is a commonly used medicine in South America for treating fever, malaria, dysentery, snake bites, etc. Because of its strong adaptability and ability to inhibit the growth of its associated plants, Mikania micrantha is considered an invasive species in China and is known as a plant killer. Preliminary studies have shown that Mikania micrantha has an antipruritic effect, but the antipruritic active substance is not yet clear. In this study, a 4-aminopyridine-induced itching model in mice was used to determi

Transposon-linked plasticity may contribute to drought tolerance in a pantropical invader, Mikania micrantha.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Plant invasion poses severe threats to biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and human society. The prevailing "small-genome advantage" hypothesis-which attributes invasiveness to compact genomes that allow fast growth, high seed output, and short generation times-cannot explain why some aggressive invaders carry relatively large genomes. Here, we seek to explore why some large-genome plants are highly invasive. METHODS: Using the pantropical, large-genome invader Mikania micrantha as a model, we integrate controlled experiments, whole-genome resequencing, and transcriptomic
