INTRODUCTION: We conducted a rapid systematic review of minimal clinically important differences (MCIDs) for Alzheimer's disease (AD) trial endpoints.
METHODS: Two reviewers searched EMBASE, MEDLINE, and PubMed from inception to June 4, 2023.
RESULTS: Ten articles were retrieved. For mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a change of +2 to +3 points on the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale (ADAS-Cog), +1 points on the Clinical Dementia Rating scale sum of boxes (CDR-SB), -5 points on the integrated Alzheimer's Disease Rating Scale (iADRS), or -1 to -2 points on the Mini-Menta

BACKGROUND: Wisconsin Gait Scale (WGS) is an observational tool for the evaluation of gait quality in individuals after stroke with hemiplegia. It is divided into four subscales, which assess a total of fourteen spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters of gait observed during the consecutive gait phases. However, the WGS score change indicative of important and clinically meaningful change has not been determined.
RESEARCH QUESTION: The study has been designed to define the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the WGS.
METHODS: Four methods were used to determine the MCID for the

BACKGROUND: Orthopaedic management of spinal deformity in patients with early onset scoliosis (EOS) often prioritizes objective radiographic correction; radiographic improvement alone does not fully capture the treatment's meaningful benefits from the patient's perspective. The Early Onset Scoliosis Questionnaire (EOSQ-24) has been previously developed and validated to measure health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with EOS. To date, the traditionally accepted assumption has been that a 10% difference in scores is clinically different. However, an evidence-based estimate for the mi

BACKGROUND: Minimum clinically important difference (MCID) helps distinguish clinically meaningful benefit from statistically significant, but clinically trivial, change. Modified versions of the Essential Tremor Rating Assessment Scale (TETRAS), including the modified activities of daily living (mADL) scale and the mADL11 scale, are frequently used as primary outcome measures in essential tremor (ET) clinical trials, but MCIDs for these measures have not been established. Here, we estimated MCIDs for the mADL and mADL11 scales in ET.
METHODS: Data from the TRANQUIL multicenter, randomized co

UNLABELLED: The minimum clinically important difference (MCID) is a measure of the minimal clinically relevant change. The MCID represents the smallest difference in score on the measure or domain of interest which patients or clinicians perceive as beneficial or as meaningful decline. The MCID is not an alternative clinical trial outcome; it does not apply to group measures and is used as a means of determining whether an individual patient has reached a threshold of change. MCIDs have been derived for symptomatic treatments and for disease targeted therapies. MCIDs have been derived for near

PURPOSE: To determine the change in score required in various domains of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) to indicate meaningful patient improvement, or the minimal clinically important difference (MCID), for 3 common hand conditions: rheumatoid arthritis (RA), carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and distal radius fracture (DRF).
METHODS: The MHQ was administered to patients at 2 time points. Patient satisfaction was defined as a satisfaction score > or =80% of the standard deviation of that patient sample. The minimal change in score in specific MHQ domains that corresponded with pati

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The Singing Voice Handicap Index-10 (SVHI-10) is a validated patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that assesses patients' perception of handicap related to singing voice. A normative value has been established with a score ≥20 being abnormal. However, there is no defined minimal clinically important difference (MCID). This study prospectively determines the MCID of SVHI-10 among a diverse group of singers.
METHODS: 103 adult singers with and without voice complaints completed SVHI-10 twice, 30 days apart. MCID for the SVHI-10 was determined using distribution-based r

OBJECTIVE: Tinnitus assessment and outcome measurement are complex, as tinnitus is a purely subjective phenomenon. Instruments used for the outcome measurement of tinnitus in the context of clinical trials include self-report questionnaires, visual analogue or numeric rating scales and psychoacoustic measurements of tinnitus loudness. For the evaluation of therapeutic interventions, it is critical to know which changes in outcome measurement instruments can be considered as clinically relevant. For this purpose, the concept of the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) has been introdu

INTRODUCTION AND MOTIVATION: Many health studies measure a continuous outcome and compare means between groups. Since means for biological data are often difficult to interpret clinically, it is common to dichotomise using a cut-point and present the 'percentage abnormal' alongside or in place of means. Examples include birthweight where 'abnormal' is defined as <2500 g (low birthweight), systolic blood pressure with abnormal defined as >140 mm Hg (high blood pressure) and lung function with varying definitions of the 'limit of normal'. In vulnerable populations with low means, for example, bi

RATIONALE: Therapeutic thoracentesis is among the most frequently performed medical procedures. Chest discomfort is a common complication and has been associated with increasingly negative pleural pressure as fluid is withdrawn in the setting of non-expendable lung. Visual analogue scales (VASs) are commonly employed to measure changes in discomfort and dyspnoea related to pleural interventions. The minimal clinically important difference (MCID), defined as the smallest change in VAS score associated with patient report of significant change in a symptom, is required to interpret the results o

BACKGROUND: The Barthel Index dyspnea (BId) is responsive to physiological changes and pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the minimum clinically important difference (MCID) has not been established yet.
AIM: To identify the MCID of BId in patients with COPD stratified according to the presence of chronic respiratory failure (CRF) or not.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using the Medical Research Council (MRC) score as an anchor, receiver operating characteristic curves and quantile regression were retrospectively evaluated before and after

INTRODUCTION: The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) is the smallest outcome change that has clinical significance. Its use has not been established in the study of myasthenia gravis (MG).
METHODS: Patients from a published intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) vs. placebo study were studied. One anchor-based and 3 distribution-based techniques were used to identify quantitative myasthenia gravis score (QMGS), repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS), and single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG) MCID cut-offs. Patients with a change-score exceeding MCID cut-offs were compared.
RESULTS: MCID c

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal malignancies (SNM) are rare cancers associated with poor prognosis and impaired quality of life (QOL). The 22-question Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) has been used to assess QOL in patients with SNM.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for the SNOT-22 in patients with SNM.
METHODS: About 264 patients with SNM were drawn from a prospective, longitudinal, multi-institutional study. SNOT-22 scores were collected at pre-treatment baseline and follow-up through 5 years post-treatment. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the internal

BACKGROUND: Minimal clinically important difference (MCID) is important to establish as a meaningful outcome in research when using patient reported outcome measures (PROMs). We determined the MCID using the distribution-based approach for three measurements used as part of the GALAXY study, which is an observational prospective study on gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in cystic fibrosis (CF).
METHODS: Four hundred and two persons with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) participated in the GALAXY study, all with baseline values available for all questionnaires. Mean age was 20.9 years (2.1- 61.1) with 75

OBJECTIVE: The Dyspnea Index (DI) is a validated patient-reported outcome (PRO) instrument that has been used in the management of laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS). The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) is an established concept to help determine the change in a PRO instrument that reflects meaningful change for the patient. It is not known what change in the DI is of clinical significance in airway surgery. This study aims to determine the MCID for the DI in patients undergoing surgical treatment for LTS.
METHODS: This is a prospective cohort study in which 26 patients with LTS co

PURPOSE: In light of recently-proposed quality measures for carpal tunnel release (CTR), elucidating the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for selected outcome measures will be important when interpreting treatment responses. Our purpose was to estimate the MCID of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) instruments and the short Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH) following CTR.
METHODS: Adult patients undergoing isolated unilateral CTR between July 2014 and October 2016 were identified. Outcomes included the PROMIS Upper Extremi

PURPOSE: To define minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and substantial clinical benefit (SCB) in revision hip arthroscopy.
METHODS: The modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), the Hip Outcome Score (HOS), and the international Hip Outcome Tool (iHOT-33) were administered to revision hip arthroscopy patients. At 1 year postoperatively, patients graded their hip function based on anchor responses. SCB was defined as both a net change and an absolute value. Receiver operating characteristic analysis with area under the curve was used to confirm psychometric values. A distribution-based meth
