Preparing Selective Nanozymes by Molecular Imprinting.

Recently, many nanomaterials such as Fe3O4, CeO2, and gold nanoparticles have been reported to have enzyme-like activities and they are called nanozymes. Although these nanozymes have oxidase or peroxidase-like activities, they can catalyze the oxidation of many substrates and thus lack the specificity expected for enzymes. The selectivity of nanozymes can be significantly enhanced up to 100-fold by coating them with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) layer. Since MIP creates specific binding pockets for the imprinted substrate, the imprinted molecules can be enriched, selectively access th

Polydopamine-Based Molecular Imprinting Polymer Electrochemical Sensor for Neopterin Detection.

Neopterin, a low-molecular-weight pteridine, is a biomarker of pro-inflammatory immune activity. Its levels rise in viral infections, transplant rejection, autoimmune, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. In healthy human serum, neopterin concentration values are up to 10 nM. Detection is challenging due to its low concentration and limited solubility. In this work, a sensitive and selective electrochemical sensor for neopterin was developed using polydopamine molecularly imprinted polymers on a glassy carbon electrode. The polymer films were electro-polymerized directly

Computational study on acetamiprid-molecular imprinted polymer.

In the present work we investigate, through DFT calculations, the mechanism of formation of a molecular imprinted polymer for the acetamiprid (ACT) insecticide, using four different functional monomers, four molar ratios attempts, and considering eight distinct solvents. As the main result we obtain the following theoretical protocol for the MIP synthesis: methacrylic acid (MMA) as functional monomer, 1:4 M ratio, i.e., one ACT to four MMAs, and chloroform as solvent. This DFT calculated condition shows more favorable energies for the formed complexes. We consider this work quite relevant sinc

Construction of Highly Active and Selective Molecular Imprinting Catalyst for Hydrogenation.

Surface molecular imprinting (MI) is one of the most efficient techniques to improve selectivity in a catalytic reaction. Heretofore, a prerequisite to fabricating selective catalysts by MI strategies is to sacrifice the number of surface-active sites, leading to a remarkable decrease of activity. Thus, it is highly desirable to design molecular imprinting catalysts (MICs) in which both the catalytic activity and selectivity are significantly enhanced. Herein, a series of MICs are prepared by sequentially adsorbing imprinting molecules (nitro compounds, N) and imprinting ligand (1,10-phenanthr

Dual-template molecular imprinting enables fully synthetic phosphatidylserine-targeted cancer therapy.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) exposed on tumor cell membranes is an attractive target for cancer therapy, but current PS-targeting strategies depend largely on biologically derived ligands that suffer from calcium dependence, limited stability, immunogenicity risk, and manufacturing complexity. Here, we report a fully synthetic therapeutic platform based on dual-template molecular imprinting that integrates PS-targeted tumor recognition with pH-responsive doxorubicin (Dox) delivery in a single nanocarrier. By co-imprinting the PS polar head group and Dox, the resulting molecularly imprinted polymer

Theoretical investigation on monomer and solvent selection for molecular imprinting of nitrocompounds.

The aim of this work is to serve as a guideline for the initial selection of monomer and solvent for the synthesis of the nitrocompound-based molecularly imprinted polymers, MIPs. Reported data include evaluation of six systems with the ability to form noncovalently bonded monomer-template complexes. These systems are represented by the following aliphatic and aromatic molecules: acrolein, acrylonitrile, 2,6-bisacrylamide, 4-ethylenebenzoic acid, methyl methacrylate, and 2-vinylpyridine. Cave models for selected monomers are also presented and supported by binding energy analysis under various

Molecular imprinting-based separation methods for selective analysis of fluoroquinolones in soils.

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs) have been synthesised in one single preparative step by precipitation polymerisation using ciprofloxacin (CIP) as template. Combinations of methacrylic acid (MAA) or 4-vinylpyridine (VP) as functional monomers, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker and dichloromethane, methanol, acetonitrile or toluene as porogens were tested. The experiments carried out by molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) in cartridges did not allow to detect any imprint effect in the VP-based polymers whereas it was clearl

Size-selective recognition of catecholamines by molecular imprinting on silica-alumina gel.

The preparation of a catecholamine receptor was carried out using a molecular imprinting method with silica-alumina gel to form complementary structures for template recognition. The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized by the condensation of silicate from tetraethyl orthosilictate (TEOS) under hydrothermal conditions at 60 degrees C. Aluminum chloride was added as a functional monomer to increase the material's rebinding ability. The selectivity of the MIP receptor prepared with different ratios of template to Si and Al, was examined with seven analytes including: dopamine, epi

The molecular structure and imprinting status of the IPW (imprinted gene in the Prader-Willi syndrome region) gene in cattle.

IPW (imprinted gene in the Prader-Willi syndrome region), a long non-coding RNA, is a paternally expressed gene in the PWS/AS imprinted domain on human chromosome 15 and mouse chromosome 7. Disruption of the PWS/AS region is associated with three neurogenic disorders in humans. In this study, we identified the bovine homolog of the IPW gene; multiple transcripts obtained by RT-PCR and RACE showed a complex and tissue-specific expression pattern of IPW in the brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung, spleen and skeletal muscle. An informative single nucleotide polymorphism (rs133341090) in the long ex

Comprehensive molecular and clinical findings in 29 patients with multi-locus imprinting disturbance.

BACKGROUND: Multi-locus imprinting disturbance (MLID) with methylation defects in various differentially methylated regions (DMRs) has recently been identified in approximately 150 cases with imprinting disorders (IDs), and deleterious variants have been found in genes related to methylation maintenance of DMRs, such as those encoding proteins constructing the subcortical maternal complex (SCMC), in a small fraction of patients and/or their mothers. However, integrated methylation analysis for DMRs and sequence analysis for MLID-causative genes in MLID cases and their mothers have been perform

Rational Supramolecular Strategy via Halogen Bonding for Effective Halogen Recognition in Molecular Imprinting.

Halogen bonding is a highly directional interaction and a potential tool in functional material design through self-assembly. Herein, we describe two fundamental supramolecular strategies to synthesize molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with halogen bonding-based molecular recognition sites. In the first method, the size of the σ-hole was increased by aromatic fluorine substitution of the template molecule, enhancing the halogen bonding in the supramolecule. The second method involved sandwiching hydrogen atoms of a template molecule between iodo substituents, which suppressed competing hyd

Molecular Imprinting as a Tool for Exceptionally Selective Gas Separation in Nanoporous Polymers.

The alarming rise in atmospheric CO2 levels, primarily driven by fossil fuel combustion and industrial processes, has become a major contributor to global climate change. Effective CO2 capture technologies are urgently needed, particularly for the selective removal of CO2 from industrial gas streams, such as flue gas and biogas, which often contain impurities like N2 and CH4. In this study, we report the design and synthesis of novel molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) using 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) and methacrylic acid (MAA) as functional monomers, and thiophene (Th) and formaldehyde (HC) as m
