Myoepithelial neoplasms are tumors composed almost exclusively of cells with myoepithelial differentiation. They frequently contain spindle, plasmacytoid or epithelioid shaped cells and may have oncocytic or clear cytoplasmic features. They are uncommon, accounting for 1.5 % of all salivary gland tumors and for 2.2-5.7 % of major and minor salivary gland tumors, respectively. Recently this author, together with several colleagues, have described three unusual myoepithelial tumors, two benign and one malignant that contained abundant intracellular mucin material, which they termed the mucinous

Mixed tumors of the salivary glands and the skin (also known as chondroid syringomas) contain epithelial and myoepithelial components in a chondroid to myxoid stroma. Lesions that are composed solely of cells with myoepithelial differentiation are known as myoepitheliomas. These tumors have been well described in the salivary glands and many other sites, and within the past decade, cutaneous myoepitheliomas have been described as well. Immunohistochemically, these lesions are typically positive for S-100, cytokeratin and/or epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), with variable positivity for glial

HIV-infected individuals maintain multiple oral C. albicans strains over time that are thought to undergo microevolution in terms of both phenotypic and genotypic features. To study this phenomenon, a 12-month prospective study was conducted in a cohort of 16 HIV-infected ethnic Chinese individuals with (A) and without (B) symptoms of oropharyngeal candidiasis to evaluate the phenotype distribution among oral C. albicans isolates during disease progression. Oral rinse samples were obtained and up to five C. albicans colony-forming units were selected per each visit, during the one year period

Myoepitheliomas are benign neoplasms of salivary glands derived from myoepithelial cells. These tumors can occur at any age but are most common in young adults. This tumor is usually located in the parotid gland and the minor salivary glands of the soft palate and represents less than 1% of all salivary gland tumors. The myoepithelioma is classified in the follow cells types: spindle, plasmacytoid, reticular, epitheliod, and clear, additionally, mixed histological forms are described. The plasmacytoid myoepithelioma from palate salivary glands is considered as a rare entity. A 45-year-old lady

Benign myoepithelioma is a very rare form of salivary gland tumor, composed entirely of myoepithelial cells. It accounts for approximately 1% of all salivary gland tumors and is most frequently located in the parotid gland and in the minor salivary glands of the hard palate. We describe herein the ninth reported case of myoepithelioma of the submandibular gland. Benign myoepithelioma must be differentiated from several benign and malignant epithelial and mesenchymal tumors. Immunohistochemical staining can help differentiate between these conditions, but histopathology remains the gold standar

An abdominal mass detected in a 36-year-old man was thought from radiologic studies to be a renal neoplasm, but at surgery the kidney was found to be uninvolved. The 9.5-cm retroperitoneal tumor was resected totally and found to be encapsulated, and it appeared to be benign by light microscopy. The pattern of the spindle cells throughout the tumor suggested a cellular schwannoma, but immunocytochemical and ultrastructural studies did not support schwannian differentiation and instead revealed epithelial and smooth muscle features compatible with a myoepithelioma.

Myoepithelioma is a benign salivary gland tumor. Central myoepitheliomas are very rare. The aim of this report was to describe a case of maxillary myoepithelioma. A 14-year-old female patient presented with an multilocular lesion in the anterior maxilla, with nearly 8 months of duration. The lesion was asymptomatic, and the patient's dental history was unremarkable. The diagnostic hypothesis was an odontogenic tumor. Biopsy specimen consisted of nests of plasmacytoid cells in a myxoid stroma without duct formation. No cellular atypia or bone and cartilage formation were noted. The neoplastic c

Myoepithelioma is defined as myoepithelial cells composed of tumor with solid, myxoid, and reticular growth pattern by the World Health Organization. It is a rare neoplasm that arises in the major salivary gland or minor salivary gland comprising approximately 1% of all salivary gland tumor. This neoplasm occurs in the parotid gland and soft palate mostly, which can be found in other organs. However, up to now, myoepithelioma of nasal septum has not been reported in English medical literature. Histologically, it is grouped as spindle, epitheliod, reticular, and clear cell types. Malignant myoepithelioma is a rare salivary gland neoplasm, which accounts for less than 2% of all the salivary gland carcinomas. Majority of cases have been reported in parotid, and only 8 cases of involvement of the hard palate have been reported in the literature so far. Hereby, a case of painless, ulcerated palatal mass of 2 years of duration reported. A diagnosis of malignant plasmacytoid myoepithelioma was made with the aid of immunohistochemical analysis, and wide surgical excision was considered keeping in mind the biological behavior of the tumor.

Myoepitheliomas are extremely rare salivary gland tumors. Myoepithelioma of salivary glands comprised only 1% of all salivary tumors, most commonly occurring in the parotid gland followed by the minor salivary glands in the oral cavity. Involvement of the soft palate is a rare occurrence. This tumor is usually benign, and its treatment is total lesion excision. Here, the author reports a case of myoepithelioma of the soft palate in a 42-year-old Turkish man. The mass was removed by local excision under general anesthesia. There was no recurrence during the follow-up period of 10 months.

Myoepithelioma is a rare form of salivary gland tumor composed entirely of myoepithelial cells. This tumor was formerly considered to be a subtype of pleomorphic adenoma; however, in the 1991 World Health Organization classification, it is listed as an independent entity. The most favorable site of occurrence of myoepithelioma is the parotid gland. Here, we report an extremely rare case of myoepithelioma of the upper lip. A 56-year-old woman presented with a painless mass on her upper lip. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 23 mm × 18 mm well-defined ovoid tumor. A benign minor salivary gla

Myoepitheliomas are typically benign tumours arising from exocrine glands. There have only been five reports of malignant myoepitheliomas from breast origin previously published in the English literature. This report describes a patient with myoepithelioma arising in the breast which later metastasized despite the primary tumour having benign histological features. Impaired immune function due to end-stage renal failure and haemodialysis may have contributed to the malignant potential of her tumour. The literature regarding myoepithelial tumours is reviewed. All breast myoepitheliomas should b

Myoepitheliomas of the respiratory organs are extremely rare. We report a case of endobronchial myoepithelioma in a 43-year-old woman presenting to hospital with a cough. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed consolidation in the lingular segment of her left upper lobe. She was initially diagnosed as having pneumonia and treated with antibiotics, but her symptoms persisted. We then performed diagnostic bronchoscopy and observed a smooth, elevated lesion obstructing the lingular bronchus. Positron emission tomography/CT revealed a nodule in the lingular bronchus of the left upper lobe with fluo

Malignant tumors of myoepithelial origin have been increasingly recognized at a variety of sites. Herein, we describe an example of malignant myoepithelioma arising in intracranial dura. The patient is a 47-year-old woman who presented with intracranial hemorrhage and on magnetic resonance imaging was found to have an enhancing tumor. No extracranial primary tumor was identified. A gross total resection was performed. Histologically, it varied in pattern from diffuse to focally (<10%) ductular and consisted of epitheloid to spindle cells showing marked mitotic activity. Prominent infiltration

We report the CT and MRI appearance of myoepithelioma and malignant myoepithelioma arising from accessory salivary glands of the soft palate and the submandibular gland. Correlation of the imaging features and histologic finding is presented. Radiologists should bear in mind that myoepithelioma and malignant myoepithelioma are included in radiological differential diagnosis of head and neck tumours.

Myoepitheliomas are benign salivary gland tumors and account for less than 1% of all salivary gland tumors. They are usually located in the parotid gland. The soft palate is very rare affected site. The differential diagnosis of myoepitheliomas should include reactive and neoplastic lesions. The treatment of myoepitheliomas is complete removal of the tumor. Herein, we report a case with giant myoepithelioma of the soft palate, reviewing the related literature.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Myoepithelioma of bone is a rare osseous tumor thought to be related to myoepithelial lesions found at other anatomic sites such as the salivary gland and skin. These tumors are composed of varying proportions of epithelial and myoepithelial cells and exhibit a spectrum of biologic behavior ranging from benign to malignant. We present the first reported case of myoepithelioma of the skull.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old white woman presented with a persistent right parieto-occipital skull nodule, relating its presence to a fall on the site 2 years previously.
