Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread muscle pain and soft tissue tenderness. However, a lack of definitive muscle pathology has made FM both a diagnostic and a treatment puzzle. Much of the evidence for pathology in FM lies in the central nervous system - in particular abnormal amplification of pain signals in the spinal cord - a manifestation of central sensitization. An emerging body of evidence posits that peripheral pain generated from the muscles and fascia may trigger and maintain central sensitization in FM. Since FM patients so frequently seek manual therapy to relieve musc

Dysfunctions of the lumbosacral area and related pain syndromes, such as chronic low back pain (CLBP), are among the most common musculoskeletal problems in modern society. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of isolated myofascial release techniques (MFR) in the treatment of CLBP in adults. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for studies published from 1 January 2013 to 1 March 2023. We included English-language randomized controlled trials evaluating the effect of isolated MFR performed by a specialist on adults with CLBP. Only

BACKGROUND: Myofascial release (MFR) is a form of massage therapy that involves identifying and releasing restrictions in the fascia and muscles. MFR-like techniques have shown improvement in abdominal pain, distention, constipation, and quality of life (QoL) in adults. Therefore, MFR may be helpful in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a disorder of gut-brain interaction or functional gastrointestinal disorder, mainly presenting with prolonged abdominal pain, bloating, and altered defecation patterns, leading to impairment in QoL. Treatments for IBS are limited and do not always co

BACKGROUND: Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a highly prevalent syndrome. Previous studies showed that extracorporeal shockwave therapy and myofascial release therapy could improve the quality of life in patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). Theoretically, combined therapy with extracorporeal shockwave therapy and myofascial release therapy will likely have significant advantages in treating CP/CPPS. We, therefore, present a protocol for conducting a well-designed randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of each thera

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is characterized by repetitive narrowing and collapse of pharyngeal airway during sleep, leading to apnoea or hypopnoea. In this context, myofunctional therapy and myofascial release might be effective, despite the literature on the combination of these approaches is still scarce.
OBJECTIVES: This randomized controlled trial aimed to assess the efficacy of oro-facial myofunctional therapy combined with myofascial release in terms of functioning in patients with mild OSA.
METHODS: Patients aged from 40 to 80 years with diagnosis of mild OSA were rand

Background: Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) is often associated with impaired mobility, functional limitations, and psychological distress. While myofascial release (MFR) and capacitive-resistive therapy (TECAR) have individually shown potential benefits, evidence regarding their combined application is limited. Methods: This assessor-blinded, three-arm randomized controlled trial included 67 patients with CNLBP. Participants were assigned to MFR alone, resistive-mode TECAR (R-TECAR) alone, or MFR plus R-TECAR. Interventions were administered twice weekly for 4 weeks, with each sessi
